Join us too!!

A Christmas boot (or maybe a sock or New Year's felt boot) can be made using any needlework technique that you know - sewn, knitted, embroidered, woven. The main thing is that Christmas or New Year’s motifs can be traced in its decor. Or even just the colors with which these holidays are associated - red, green, white.

How to Sew a Christmas Stocking— main sequence of work
To sew a New Year's boot you will need
- pattern,
- fabric of two or more colors, it is better if at least one fabric is plain. If you plan to sew a single-layer boot, then you need to take thick fabric - drape, tapestry, fleece. If the product is double, it is better to use cotton.
- threads, scissors,
- details for decoration as desired: braid, beads, bugles, animal figurines, twigs, appliqués of Santa Claus, Snow Maiden.

It is better not to use the symbols of the coming year - this will allow you to use the Christmas boot next season.

On a sheet of white paper, make a life-size boot pattern. You can use any of the above schemes. It can be any size - whatever your fabric allows you to make, whatever you need for decoration.

Cut out the pattern pieces, place them on the fabric and pin them, trace along the outline with a pencil or tailor's chalk.

Cut out the pieces with seam allowances. Place them right sides inward and stitch along the intended mark.
Fold the outer edge under and stitch it. You can do it differently - decorate the outer edge with a white cuff with braid sewn along its edge.

Make a loop for hanging the boot (from braid or main fabric).

Decorate the product: sew prepared appliqués, buttons, beads, decorative pockets, figures, ribbon bows, etc.
The gift sock is ready!

Options
Below are various options for sewing and designing a New Year's boot.

If you are making it in the patchwork style, first sew the patches in a random order, and then cut out the product.

If you are making a double sock from cotton fabric - your pattern can immediately take this into account, cut out the part double, sew it, leaving an opening for turning it inside out.

They look very nice embroidered christmas boots- embroidery patterns are possible

Christmas boot possible to tie like a regular sock, but a little longer, both knitted and crocheted. The decoration will be a knitted ornament (for example, traditional snowflakes). Or make it stripes. Or even knit regular plain socks, but use multi-colored yarn.

Give good things for the New Year and Christmas!
And not only on holidays.

If you took part in the “Christmas Hanging Gifts” campaign - hung up a sock for exchange - share this good deed online, tell us about it in the comments.

As you know, on a magical night, when Santa Claus enters the house, he begins to hide his gifts in New Year's boots or stockings. Therefore, every housewife should have templates and stencils for New Year’s boots. Of course, this tradition is closer to Western people, but many countries around the world decorate their homes with just such products. Usually they are hung on stairs, fireplaces or nearby, and you can make such a craft yourself.

This traditional product has its own interesting history. After all, we are used to hearing and know that Santa Claus is the same as Father Frost, only in the West it is customary to call him Santa Claus, and in Russia Father Frost.

The story of why it is customary to hang boots over the fireplace

According to legend, the Good Wizard always helped people, and one fine day he provided his help to three sisters who lived very poorly. Having climbed to the roof of their house, Santa Claus threw three gold bars through the chimney, which ended up in the stockings hanging above the fireplace.

Waking up in the morning and discovering this find, the sisters could not believe their eyes. They shared their joy with their neighbors, and they, in turn, also hung stockings over the fireplace in anticipation of their miracle. Since then, a tradition arose, which becomes more and more popular every year.

Children and adults, believing in the Good Wizard, hang up their charming decorative boots for the New Year and wait for gifts. Some even make these products, using improvised materials themselves, which every housewife probably has in her home.

Decorative paper shoe

This craft can be entrusted to the youngest members of the family, but first they should be shown the entire algorithm of work. To begin, prepare:

- cardboard;
- glue;
- scissors;
- paper (colored);
- a simple pencil;
- eraser;
- a thin rope for making a loop on which the product will be hung.

You can use a ready-made New Year's boot template, which you can print on the Internet using a printer, or you can draw a suitable product yourself. If you draw yourself, then you need to fold the paper sheet in half and apply the design, and then (without unfolding) cut out a stencil with scissors, which will be the sample.

The cardboard sample is easy to use for applying designs to colored paper because it is thick. To do this, take a sheet selected by color, fold it in half, draw the outline of the sample and cut it out. After this, both halves of the boot are glued together so that there is room inside for a gift. Of course, it won’t be possible to place heavy objects there, but light ones can easily be placed there.

After the halves are glued together, you need to beautifully design the product. To do this, you can use felt-tip pens to apply beautiful patterns, for example, snowflakes or snowmen. If you have no artistic skills, then make an applique.

For the applique, take 3 cotton pads, colored paper, glue, scissors and felt-tip pens. Stack the cotton pads on top of each other, giving them the shape of a snowman. After that, use colored paper to make a hat with a pompom and a nose. Glue everything with glue, and then, using a felt-tip pen, draw eyes and a mouth. Thus, a cute snowman will decorate your boots.

Of course, you can decorate it with other decorative elements, for example, openwork snowflakes or sparkles cut out of fabric, as well as bows with stones and other improvised elements. After the decorations are finished, you can attach a rope loop and hang the boots in the chosen place in the house.

If you are preparing this craft for a gift, then you can make a small box out of cardboard, decorate it yourself using the same material you used for the boots, attach a beautiful bow and give it to a friend. It’s unlikely that anyone will refuse such a gift, especially on New Year’s Day, and if it’s made with your own hands, then it says a lot, so such a gift will be a real surprise.

Creative stocking

To make such a place for gifts from Santa Claus, you can use striped fabric. A sample of the product is made in the same way as for paper boots. Although, if someone is too lazy to make a sample, then look in stores for a ready-made pair of striped, elongated socks. They'll fit just as well.

For those who like to create their own crafts, you should prepare a sample. Apply it to the fabric folded in half, because after this both halves will be sewn together. And you need to pay attention that all the colored stripes match the lines with each other. Otherwise it will turn out ugly.

After the stocking is sewn from the wrong side, it is turned inside out and decorated. For a more beautiful look, you can make small pompoms. Then hang them on the top, in a circle, on a sewn braid.

The braid of the required diameter can be purchased in the store. After this, stitch it to the top of the stocking, and attach the pompoms to it. They can be sewn or glued at the discretion of the craftsman.

After this, attach the same pompoms to the toe of the product. The product that will look best will be one where the braid and pom-poms are matched in color. Let's say white. At the end of the craft, use a piece of the remaining braid to make a loop on which you can hang a beautiful New Year's stocking.

It’s easy to turn your ideas into reality, especially when you have the desire and mood for it. Giving such gifts is even more pleasant, because it will be appreciated not only by the Good Wizard, but also by the representative of the coming year.

Especially in an unusual package - like a funny sock or a handmade boot hung from the mantelpiece or stair railing. Santa Claus's favorite shoes have become as important an attribute of the winter holidays as a Christmas tree with shiny tinsel or a bottle of champagne. We'll show you how to make and decorate a boot using scrap materials!

The story of the New Year's boot

The tradition of wrapping gifts in stockings and boots came to us from the West, where the place of Father Frost is taken by St. Nicholas, or Santa Claus. According to legend, he helped people unnoticed. One day Nikolai learned about three sisters who lived in poverty on the outskirts of the city. To help the girls, the Saint climbed to the roof of their house and threw three gold bars through the chimney.

Pieces of precious metal fell into the girls' stockings, which were drying over the fireplace. In the morning, a wonderful surprise awaited the sisters. They shared their joy with their neighbors, and they also hung stockings over the fireplace to receive a present from Nikolai. This tradition appeared in the 16th century and is gaining more and more popularity every year. Well, in modern houses where there is no fireplace, stockings or boots for gifts are attached next to the bed or Christmas tree.

New Year's boot made of paper or cardboard

Cardboard boots can be great!

Even a child can do the simplest decoration option. On the other hand, it gives room for imagination: the shape and decor of the product depend only on you. Prepare materials for creativity:

  • thick paper or cardboard;
  • scissors;
  • PVA glue";
  • a simple pencil and eraser;
  • ribbon for hanging.

Instructions

  1. Fold the sheet in half. On the back side, draw a felt boot so that its inner side coincides with the fold of the paper. Cut out the design along the outline and unfold it. You will get a pair of boots connected to each other.
  2. Fold the white paper in half too. Draw the fur trim of the felt boots - a rectangle with softened corners, one side of which falls on the fold of the sheet. Transfer the design to the fabric. Cut out the part, unfold it and glue it to the boot shaft from the back side.
  3. Glue the boots together, leaving space for gifts inside.
  4. For decoration, use pencils, felt-tip pens or glitter paints, paper or fabric snowflakes, sequins, pebbles, bows, and so on.
  5. Fold the ribbon into a loop and sew it to the corner of the craft for fastening.

Felt is in the arsenal of every needlewoman. The material is suitable for small and large crafts, including boots. You will need:

  • a large piece of white, red, green or blue felt;
  • some white material;
  • cardboard or paper;

  • thin satin ribbon.

Instructions

  1. Draw and cut out full size templates for the base and top of the boots. If you plan to make an applique from felt, depict these details.
  2. Cut out the base template, attach it to the back of the fabric and trace it. Then cut out two identical pieces and sew them on the sides by hand or on a machine.
  3. Repeat with the boot templates and white felt. Wrap the resulting rectangles around the top of the boot and sew, turning the edges outward.
  4. From the remaining felt, cut out decorative elements: snowflakes, holly branches, red flowers, silhouettes of birds. Glue them to the base.

New Year's boot made of multi-colored ribbons

Creating a woven base from colored ribbons

If you're into crafts, you'll quickly find a collection of fabric scraps and ribbons at home. It's time to put them to work and sew a bright boot for gifts! In addition to the tapes, you will find the following materials useful:

  • bias tape with lurex;
  • adhesive web with a paper base;
  • cardboard and scissors;
  • canvas;
  • red satin cord;
  • red and green floss threads;
  • pins;
  • iron.

Step-by-step instructions for making a Christmas boot from ribbons

Instructions

  1. Place a soft cloth on the table and a cobweb on top, leaving the paper part at the bottom.
  2. Cut the ribbons to the required length, lay half on the web diagonally, and secure with pins. Thread the remaining ribbons through the already secured ones to create a kind of weaving. Follow the same pattern to make the second part of the boot.
  3. Iron the base to secure the ribbons to the web and remove wrinkles.
  4. Cut out two identical boots from cardboard. Apply them one by one to the front side of the blanks, remove the paper part of the web and place the tape “boots” on the canvas. Iron them again, finish the edges of the fabric and sew the details.
  5. Decorate the edges with Lurex trim and the tops with treated canvas with Christmas embroidery (snowflakes or holly branches):

I made this felt boot for my daughter for Christmas. The idea for the drawing was taken from the Internet, but, as usual, I could not repeat everything exactly. Therefore, I offer you my modified version. It took me two whole days to complete the work because I embroider very slowly. At the same time, I was distracted only by cooking and homework with the child.

I am attaching the boot pattern in .jpg format. When printing, try to print each sheet with the same printer settings so that the details match. You need to print on A4 sheet in portrait format.

To work you will need:

Pattern of New Year's boot made of felt - appliques

Pattern of a New Year's boot made of felt - the basis

  • medium-hard felt (2 A4 sheets of blue and trimmings of white and blue);
  • blue and silver sequins;
  • small transparent and blue beads;
  • large black beads - 2 pcs. for peepholes;
  • black bead 5 mm for the spout;
  • sewing and embroidery threads - white, blue, dark blue, black;
  • a regular sewing needle and a beaded one (thin with a thin eye);
  • padding polyester for stuffing;
  • blue satin ribbon 5 mm wide - for hanging.

How to sew a New Year's boot from felt using my pattern:

  1. Print the boot pattern on two A4 sheets in a book layout.
  2. Cut out a pattern for the boot from blue felt all the way around, including the toe and top edge.
  3. Divide the base template of the boot into 3 parts along the lines separating the toe and top.
  4. Cut out the central part of the boot from blue felt, and from white felt the sock, top of the boot, details of the Christmas trees, snowman and stripes of snow for the hat, as well as a snowflake.
  5. From blue felt we cut out 2 mittens, 3 scarf elements, 2 hat elements, two figured borders.
  6. We join the white sock with the blue central part of the boot and sew it together end-to-end using oblique stitches. The stitches should be small and completely covered by a curly strip of blue felt placed on them.
  7. Apply a blue curly stripe to the border between the white and blue parts. Sew with even stitches using matching thread.

    This is what a sewn sock looks like from the inside out

  8. We sew the top of the boot in the same way.
  9. Next we make the left and right Christmas trees alternately. We begin to sew them from the bottom up, since the upper parts partially overlap the lower ones. Don’t be too lazy to first lay out all the elements of the Christmas tree, clearly checking their location, and then only sew on one element.
  10. After the Christmas trees we sew on the snowman elements. The lower part should completely cover the gaps up to the Christmas trees. To make the snowman figure look prominent on the boot, do not forget to lay out a small layer of padding polyester under the applique and distribute it evenly.
  11. Next we sew on the sleeves (they should also cover the free space up to the Christmas trees), and the cylinder of the hat. We stuff the sleeves with padding polyester, but not the hat.
  12. We sew on the brim of the hat, the scarf collar, the ends of the scarf and the mittens. Add a piece of padding polyester to the collar and mittens.
  13. Now let's start embroidering. To sew a sequin, use a bead needle to pierce the felt from the inside to the face, put the sequin on so that the bulge is on top (otherwise you can cut yourself on the sharp edges), string a bead to match the sequin, pierce the felt from the face to the inside through the center of the sequin and tighten the thread. This is how we decorate the edges of the Christmas tree tiers, the bottom ball and the left hand of the snowman, and a figured strip.
  14. We embroider a mouth on the face and sew a black bead instead of a nose. For the eyes, we take large black beads, place them on the fabric with the hole up and make 4 stitches from the center of the bead with black thread - short down and long up, up to the left and up to the right. This is how the eyelashes turned out.

  15. We embroider random patterns on the mittens, hat and scarf.
  16. We decorate the toe and top of the boot with rhinestones on the mesh. To do this, we pull the parallel threads first in one direction, then across. It is convenient to check the distance between the threads using a strip of cardboard 6 mm wide. The stretched threads will sag, so we sew sequins at the crosshairs of the threads, alternating their colors in a checkerboard pattern. When sewing sequins, we make the first puncture on one side of the intersection of the two threads at a point, and the second on the opposite side of the first puncture. This way the threads will be drawn to the fabric with a single stitch.
  17. On one half of the snowflake we embroider the name of a loved one (in my case, the name of my daughter), and then we sew the two halves of the snowflake together, not forgetting to fill it with padding polyester in the process. We sew a satin ribbon to one of the rays.

  18. Now the final stage - we put the two parts of the boot together facing outwards and sew them around the perimeter with overlock stitches (of course, without touching the top :)). I stitched so that no stitches were visible on the front side. This can be achieved by inserting the needle diagonally (see diagram).
  19. We sew the second end of the satin ribbon, on which the snowflake will hang, and the pendant. The work is ready!

The tradition of putting a Christmas present in a boot was born so long ago that no one really remembers why it was necessary to do it.

One of the legends says that this happened in a poor hut, so poor that there was not even anything to put a Christmas tree on. And there was nowhere - the hut was too cramped. But poor parents loved their children no less than rich ones and could not deprive them of one of the joys of the New Year - receiving gifts.

The mother sewed a doll from scraps, and the father whittled a saber out of wood. But they didn’t even have a box in which to put these treasures. But there was either a pair of worn-out shoes for all the children at once, or a pair of darned and over-darned stockings. And when the children fell asleep, the poor parents put their gifts, made with such love, into these shoes.

So it was customary to put gifts in the boot on Christmas or New Year's Eve. All the villagers liked this idea so much that it was adopted by those whose gifts simply did not fit under the tree.

Well, in our time, a beautifully designed New Year's boot is a part of a festive interior, a Christmas tree decoration, or even a gift in itself (quite utilitarian, which can be worn like house slippers).

What it will be, so tiny that even a small diamond ring will not fit there, or huge, like a whole house, is up to you to decide. And additional decoration for the holiday never hurts.

More ideas for New Year's boots and socks:

New Year's boots can be made from very different materials, ranging from traditional ones - felt, fabric and knitted wool - to completely incredible ones.

Braid, multi-colored ribbons, buttons and other accessories will help make the boot unique, even if you bought it in a store.

You can use the most ordinary boot as a New Year's boot. Naturally, it must be new, clean and elegant.

An old sweater or jacket is also suitable for making an original New Year's boot.

A boot made of brocade, velvet or satin, as well as a simple plain fabric, would be good.

The main thing is that they are made with love and filled with truly desired gifts.

Or you can make such a New Year’s tear-off, or rather pinch-off, calendar - a garland for the New Year holidays.

To do this, just embroider on each sock or write with a fabric marker the capital letter of the name of the person to whom the gift is intended. These could also be the dates of the month on which you need to get gifts. For every day of the New Year holidays, one gift, albeit a small one, you must agree, this is great!
