Crafts made from yarn step by step. How to make a toy from threads with your own hands - a moving bird for children. Wooden decor with yarn

Ordinary threads are a fairly simple material for creative ideas. In any home you can find knitting threads, of which there seem to be few left, but you still don’t feel like throwing them away. You can make interesting toys from such leftovers. The main thing is to apply patience and a creative approach to this, and then toys made from threads, quickly and simply made with your own hands, will delight the eye for a long time.

Based on the manufacturing method, several types of toys can be distinguished.

How to make toys from threads with your own hands in various versions

Let's study the first method - based on balls

In this style you can come up with a great variety of toys, it all depends on the person’s imagination. All you need to create them is thread, a balloon, glue and Vaseline.

To make a toy, you need to inflate the ball and coat it with Vaseline, so that at the end of the work you can easily remove the ball. Next, you need to wrap the ball with threads. There are two methods for obtaining adhesive thread. At first, you need to pierce a hole in a bottle of glue with a needle and pass a thread through it, so that the thread will be lubricated with glue, and its excess will remain in the bottle. In the second method, the threads are dipped in a bowl of glue. In this case, you will have to remove excess glue with your fingers. Of course, the first method looks more neat.

Once all the balls for the craft are ready, you can fasten them together. There are a lot of options for making beautiful toys, for example, a gray bunny, a brown bear, a sun or a chicken. To complete the look, you can attach eyes, ears, and a tail from colored paper. If you involve children in this entertaining work, you can come up with animals based on the fairy tale and stage a whole performance. They will definitely be delighted.

Let's look at the following type of manufacturing - winding threads on a frame

This process is quite difficult to master, since you first need to make a frame. A good material for this would be a wine cork and wire. In addition, you will need threads and glue.
Stages of making a toy:
1) Prepare the frame. The body of the toy can be made from cork or wire; a piece of foam plastic will also work well.
2) Wrap the frame with threads. As in the previous method, the threads need to be secured with glue and wound well around the frame. After some time, the toy will gain strength.
3) Create decor. Here you need to add small details of the toy, you can also simply draw them with a marker.
3) Make clothes. Of course, this stage is not at all necessary. However, you can sew or knit tiny clothes. Such a toy will acquire its own personality.

We make the third type of toys - based on pompoms

Making pompoms is very easy. The materials for them are as follows: thread, scissors and a piece of cardboard. You need to make two rings from cardboard. Next, you need to fold the rings and wind the threads tightly around them. The more threads are wound, the more magnificent the pompom will be. Then carefully cut the threads along the outer edge. If the winding is quite tight, the threads will remain in place. After this, you need to thread a thread between the cardboards and tie everything into a strong bundle. Then all that remains is to remove the cardboard and straighten the threads. The toy is ready, all that remains is to add a few details.

Let's study step by step the fourth method - knitting

One of the most popular ways to create toys is to make them yourself using knitting. It will be easy for a novice needlewoman to cope with the work if she knows the pattern. Toys made from knitting threads can be very funny and interesting. Such products can be a wonderful gift.

The easiest and, one might say, ideal option for a beginner is a tied kinder container. This type of work does not require much time to complete. After tying, all that remains is to create the decor, that is, make a nose, ears, mouth, tail and other elements. Wonderful toys will be made in the form of a cat, a bee, a train, a caterpillar, a chicken, a bunny, and a dog.

More experienced knitters can try something more difficult. For example, knitting a toy entirely from yarn. There is a very suitable type of yarn for this activity, which is called “grass”. This yarn is a thread from which small hairs of very different lengths stick out. It is quite inexpensive and well suited for manual work. Many people buy it only because of its appearance, and then they start thinking about what to make.
This yarn makes very soft and fluffy toys. It’s worth trying to do at least one; any child will appreciate the result. Just first you need to decide which yarn to use to create a particular toy. Teddy bear is one of the most famous toys for children, and it is made from just such yarn.

Here are the basic methods of making toys from threads. And if there is a child in the family, then a handmade toy will bring him only joy and pleasure, because such work will be done with interest and love.

Video on the topic of the article

In order to make toys from threads, great skill and experience are not required. You just have to watch the master class on this video.

There are materials that can be used not once, not twice, but many times to create various crafts and simply interesting things. For example, threads are simply a universal material: first you knit a sweater or a scarf or a hat out of them, and then, when they go out of fashion, you can unravel them and make wonderful and original crafts from these threads (or even short remnants of yarn). They will be an excellent decoration for the interior of your home or a wonderful gift for family and friends.

What do you need?

Making crafts from threads with your own hands, of course, is easier for those needlewomen who are good at crocheting or knitting, or weaving macrame. However, this does not mean at all that others who are not familiar with these techniques cannot take up the production of thread decor. You will definitely acquire the necessary skills in the process, and if you begin to combine them and arrange them when creating your compositions, then you will get real aerial masterpieces.

In fact, crafts made from threads do not require any special expenses, since you only need threads (you can take floss, cotton or wool yarn - according to your taste and preference), a needle, scissors, glue and forms that will help you create these or those conceived objects.

Let's start simple

The easiest thread crafts to make are balls. They can be of any size, and when working with them, you can use threads of different thicknesses and shades - this is how you will get original jewelry. Having learned how to make them, using the same principle, you will be able to make vases, coasters, chandeliers, lampshades, Christmas tree decorations and many other interesting things in the future.

It should be noted that it is better to do all crafts made from threads with gloves to protect your hands from glue, because you will have to soak the threads in it and work with such material.

  1. So, first you should inflate the balloon (you can choose any shape or size of balloons that you want as a result). Coat it with greasy cream, Vaseline or even sunflower oil (the threads will be better separated from the greasy surface).
  2. Pour glue into a separate container, stir it and put the threads there.
  3. Then take the yarn and, squeezing it a little to remove excess glue, begin to wind it around your ball. This can be done chaotically - in any order and in different directions. When you think it's enough, cut the thread and tuck the end under to secure.
  4. Now immerse the entire wrapped ball in glue, wet it thoroughly on all sides and squeeze out the excess again.
  5. You can leave the craft to dry. As a rule, one night is enough, but if you find that in the morning the thread has not hardened or is still wet, it is better to give it more time to dry (the thread should become very hard and stiff).
  6. After this, pierce the ball with a needle and carefully pull it out. Finished crafts can be decorated with sparkles, beads, rhinestones, sequins, ribbons, etc.

Making the task more difficult

You can also make a solution from glue and sugar (for a bottle or 85 ml of PVA glue you will need 10 teaspoons of sugar and one and a half tablespoons of water), or flour (for half a glass of cold water, two or three tablespoons of white wheat flour, stir, and then gradually add a glass boiling water), and do not soak the threads in a separate container, but make the following device.

Take a small plastic bottle and pour the prepared solution or glue into it. At the very bottom, at the bottom of the bottle, make two holes (it’s better to pierce with a gypsy needle). Thread your thread into the rhinestone needle and you will end up with a thread soaked in glue.

Other crafts

Now that you already know how to make balls, you can try to make something more complicated. For example, you can make a very original vase or candy bowl if you wrap it with threads or stick pieces/scraps of multi-colored yarn around some shape.

You can lay out patterns or go abstract, but try to achieve smooth edges and avoid gaps. Let the product dry thoroughly, and then remove the “cocoon” from the threads. To avoid wasting time later on not washing the mold, use cling film before you start working with it.

The same principle is easy to do - you just need to inflate a heart-shaped balloon and choose pink or red threads.

Easter crafts in this style also turn out very beautiful. But to make an egg from threads, it is better to use not a ball (although this option is also possible, you just have to try to inflate oval balls), but a foam blank. Simply cut out an egg shape from foam and sand it well, then cover with cling film.

To make the threads lay more beautifully, you can use needles to divide the egg into zones, or make a craft from two halves, and then glue them together. By cutting a hole in the egg, you can place the Easter chick there or simply decorate the inside beautifully.

You can test your skills and make an incredibly stylish chandelier. To do this, first carry out the same manipulations with the balls (you can also take an inflatable ball, but you will need to wrap it in cling film before wrapping it).

When you have completely covered the ball with threads, take a brush and saturate the product with glue again. Leave to dry, and after drying, deflate the balloon or ball and remove it. Now you need to take care of connecting the lampshade to electricity.

Mark a hole in the ball for the socket and cut it out (the socket and the light bulb should fit freely). Insert the socket with an energy-saving light bulb into your lamp and screw the plastic holder between the threads (make sure that the light bulb is not located close to the walls). Then all that remains is installation and connection to the network.

Such things will not only advantageously decorate any interior, but will also help you show your creative personality and abilities.

Knitting enthusiasts quite often end up with balls of thread that are no longer needed, but at the same time it’s a pity to throw them away. Of course, you can try to knit colored socks or a rug later, but it is better to transform old items and decorate them with ordinary threads. In this article we have collected for you many ideas for crafts made from threads that everyone can make.

Interesting ideas for crafts made from threads: creative headphones

Necessary materials :
—threads (2 colors)
- scissors
- adhesive tape (scotch tape).

Step 1: Take threads of 2 colors. The length of each thread should be 3 times the length of the wire. Tie the ends of the threads to the wiring.
Step 2: Attach the wires with tied threads to the tabletop using adhesive tape (so that they do not move).

Step 3: Take a thread of the main color that will be visible. Pass this thread under the others, and then lay it on top of them. This creates a loop through which you need to pass the main thread and tighten it.

Step 4: Repeat the previous step. To change the thread, repeat 15 times, then take a different color.
When making knots, do not forget to ensure that the “ladder” is spiral.

Wall decor made of threads

Necessary materials :
- wooden stick 90 and 120 cm;
- multi-colored threads;
- scissors ;
- PVA glue.
For ease of use, secure the stick between two chairs.

Step 1: We cut threads of different lengths, and each color of thread has its own length. In our case, the long thread was 60 cm, and the short one was 30 cm.

Step 2: Apply PVA glue to the stick. We begin to hang threads on it, throwing them over it. We try to place the threads evenly.

Step 3: After hanging all the threads, wait for the glue to dry. Then we cut the threads diagonally.
Fantasize and choose your drawing, subsequence flowers, cutting method. The result is a very original piece of decor that will bring a touch of creativity to your interior.

Thread decor

How to make a picture from knitting threads

Materials:
-canvas on frame;
-thread of medium thickness;
—adhesive tape (scotch tape);
—aerosol paint.

It is recommended to spray paint not indoors and while wearing protective clothing.
Step 1: Create a pattern using threads on the frame. On the back side of the frame we secure the threads with adhesive tape.

Step 2: Paint the canvas with one or more selected colors.
Step 3: After the paint has dried, remove the threads.

Original decoration using isothread technique

Materials used :

Thick paper (cardboard, box);

- threads of different colors;

Scissors .

Step 1: Cut out a geometric shape from thick paper, any one you like.
Step 2: We make small cuts (2 cm) along the entire length of the figure at the same distance from each other.

Step 3: Take the thread, insert it into the cut and wrap the entire figure (using the remaining cuts), creating a pattern.

Step 4: At the end of the work, after you have received the desired pattern, leave a loop of thread from which you can hang the decoration.

Decoration made from floss threads

Materials:
— a metal ring (like a washer);
- scissors ;
- chain ;
- multi-colored threads;
- Super glue .

Step 1: Take a long thread, fold it in half, thread it through the ring, forming a loop. The thread is secured to the ring when it is passed through the resulting loop.
Step 2: Hold the ring in one hand and with the other hand wind the thread around the ring, pushing it through the loop. Repeat until the entire ring is wrapped. At the same time, make sure that the thread lies tightly to each other.

Step 3: Make several similar rings, only in different colors. To do this, repeat step 1 and 2.
Step 4: The resulting rings are put on a chain.

Alternatively, you can replace the chain by connecting the rings with the thread with which they were wrapped. It is done like this: in the 1st ring, the thread is not cut after wrapping, but is threaded into the 2nd ring and wrapped around it several times, making a knot at the end. In the same way, you can attach the 3rd and subsequent rings. The thread color can be one or alternate. If the thread runs out, then simply tie a new one and continue connecting the rings.
When you receive the required number of rings, tie threads to the outer rings and connect them into a circle.

Wicker cup made of threads

Materials used :
- threads;
- PVA glue ;
- brush;
- scissors ;
- cup ;
- wide adhesive tape (or cling film);
dye .

Step 1: Apply several layers of cling film or tape to the outside of the cup.
Step 2: A 50 cm long thread is cut and twisted in a spiral to form a circle.
Step 3: Turn the cup over, bottom up, and place it on the table. Place the twisted disk (circle) in the center of the cup. We apply glue on top of it so that the spiral does not fall apart.
Step 4: From the glued disk, we begin to wind a new thread in a circle, in the shape of a cup. We coat the thread well with glue for reliable fastening. We do not wind the thread to the very end of the cup, leaving about 3 cm from the bottom.

Step 5: The end of the thread needs to be secured. Then we proceed to generously coat the resulting shape of threads with glue. Leave the work for a while until the glue is completely dry.
Step 6: After the glue has dried, carefully remove the resulting

Unusual wall decor made of threads

Materials:
- small nails (or buttons);
- long brown thread;
- sheet of plywood.

To decorate the wall, take a large sheet of plywood on which a large tree is made. You can also create a tree on a small piece of plywood. Then you will get a picture that will decorate your apartment.

So, let's get to work:
Step 1: On a sheet of plywood we make a sketch of our future tree.
Step 2: Drive small nails along the contour of the drawn tree. Don't try to maintain symmetry or draw precise lines: the tree should look natural and alive.
Step 3: We begin to create a tree, moving from bottom to top. To do this, we wrap the thread around the nails. Strict sequences no, everything is done chaotically.
Step 4: Since the work is large and labor-intensive, you can take a break and leave the work for a while. In this case, wrap the end of the thread behind the nail. Returning to work, unwind the thread and continue weaving the tree.

, paintings and panels. Don't rush to put away balls of thread, try to use them to the maximum by creating creative crafts.

If you have some yarn left over after knitting, I’m ready to tell you what DIY yarn crafts you can make from it. Almost all the works are simple, even a child can make them. To make others, the kids will need your help. I think such children's crafts will decorate the interior of your home, will be useful for toddlers for competitions and exhibitions, or will be excellent gifts for friends and family.

DIY yarn pompom

I decided to start with 3 ways to make pompoms. They will be useful to us more than once in our future work. You can choose the option that seems most convenient to you.

Method 1. How to make a pompom from yarn with your own hands with a cardboard base

The most common way. For it we will need:

  • Thick paper (2 sheets). You can use cardboard as a base material
  • Compass
  • Scissors

How to do:

  • Draw 2 circles on paper. External - according to the size of future pompoms. Internal - depends on how thick you want the balls to be (the narrower, the thicker), as well as on your desire (it is easier to work with a wide hole for children 5-7 years old).
  • Cut out circles. We make a hole in them.
  • We cut one side of the base so that we can wrap it with thread without any problems.
  • Next, we wind the wool.
  • We move 2 circles apart.
  • Cutting the wool.
  • We pass the thread between the circles and tie the wool.

We remove the base. Trim off the uneven edges.

Method 2. On the fork.

Plus – you don’t need to make a base. But the size of the balls will be small.

  • We wind the thread around the four tines of the fork.
  • Between the 2nd and 3rd teeth we thread a thread with which we tie the yarn.
  • Remove from the fork.
  • Cut the resulting loops of wool.

All that remains is to trim the edges.

How to make pompoms from yarn quickly

This is the easiest option pompom without cardboard base . Another plus is that you get a lot of blanks at once from which pompoms are made. The downside is that it’s difficult (but possible) to make very curvy ones.

That's all! Let's fluff up our “balls”.

DIY crafts from yarn and threads

I'll start with pom-poms, or rather I'll continue. How can they be applied? First of all, you can use it for decoration for the holidays:, New Year,.

These can be garlands of pompoms. By the way, remember? If you haven't seen it, check out the link. It turns out very festive and bright.

And today I found some more interesting ideas:

Here are the letters, wreaths, dandelions and pom-pom trees.

Rug made of pompoms

How do you like these fluffies? You won't find these on sale! And you can make any shape. Twist pom-poms to match your favorite TV series. Just really? You can use that quick method of forming pompoms, when you wrap them around a chair and get a lot of them at once (I wrote above).

To make a pompom rug with your own hands, you will need a mesh. It can be a rubberized mesh or mesh fabric, or maybe a construction one. I once did it not on a mesh, but on a towel, I simply glued pom-poms with hot glue. It was great too. The rug served for a long time until we moved).

And with a grid it’s much easier. See for yourself.

Here, in my opinion, is the construction grid.

Crafts from yarn and threads for children

Piggy magnet

When I saw this photo, I really liked the idea for its simplicity. True, it is assumed that this work is made of cord. But you can use thick yarn or, if you are making from leftovers thin wool, weave it into a braid/chain.

  • Twist the chain into a spiral and glue it to the cardboard.
  • Cut out ears and a nickel from felt. Glue them on the piggy’s “head”.
  • Sew button eyes and beads onto the nickel.
  • Attach the cardboard to the magnet.

But this is not the last piggy. I have another model.

Fluffy pig

And again you will need a pompom.

  • Glue a nickel button to it.
  • Eyes.
  • Felt ears.

A bow will look beautiful. If it’s difficult for kids, you don’t have to do the paws. But for children 10-14 years old I can do such a task. We cut them out of felt and glue them.

Bunny - rabbit

This is the case when the work looks very cool, it seems so difficult to do. But it's actually simple.

The size of the bunny will depend on the size of the square.

Photos

Horse

Now it is already clear that this is the muzzle of a horse. Glue on the eyes. Ready!

Another version of the horse. You will need two piles of thread, tie it as in the picture.

All that remains is to make the tail and mane. You can also use a felt saddle.

Thread necklace

Dove and bullfinches made of threads

I will have several options: dove and bullfinch . Using their example, I will show how you can create other birds using different coat colors.

You can also make sparrows and chickens, just by changing the colors of the threads.

Detailed MK in our video.

And here are the bullfinches in the nest. The nest is also made of threads.

It is done according to the same scheme. We just need yarn of other colors:

  • Black (back - wound along the length of the base);
  • Gray (wings - wound along the width);
  • Red (tummy - we wrap along the width of the base).

The thickness of all blanks is the same.

Titmouse master class

We will be mixing different strands of yarn! This is how we will decorate the birds.

We will need:

We make preparations:

  • We wrap burgundy wool on the wide side of the warp. Let's cut it.
  • Yellow - we wrap it on the second cardboard. We cut it too.
  • We wind white and blue together. Cut and tie in the middle.

Assembling the model:

We place burgundy and yellow bunches perpendicularly. Burgundy is at the bottom, yellow should be on top).

We bend the burgundy ones over the yellow ones.

We tie the burgundy ones with thread directly under the yellow bunch.

We bend the yellow ones at a right angle. We tie it with thread to match the color.

We place the workpiece so that there are blue threads at the bottom and our bundle at the top.

Inside the blue ones is a wad of paper.

We bend all the threads (we mask the paper between them). We tie it under the ball, leaving a tail.

Align the tail.

We form legs from wire.

We insert the paws into the tummy.

Sew on the eyes.

Glue the beak.

Angry Birds made from pompoms

Red will be first. We wrap pink yarn around 3 fingers.

Red on top.

We remove it from our fingers while pulling out the thread with which we tie the pompom.

We tie and cut the threads.

We cut the pompom so as to obtain an ovaloid.

We make eyebrows and a beak from felt, eyes from white beads, and draw pupils with a marker. And don’t forget to slightly pull out the three threads on the head - the tuft, just by gently pulling the threads in the pompom.

For blue birds we do the same thing, only we take blue threads. don't forget to cut the pompom into an oval shape.

We wrap gray, black on top, make a pompom and cut it into a ball. We make the eyebrows, beak and forelock from felt and glue them with hot glue. Bead eyes and pupils are drawn with a marker. The only peculiarity is the fluff around the eyes. To do this, we glue gray threads onto the bead with rays like a snowflake.

For the pig you will need light green yarn and felt. We make a round pompom, maybe a little oval. Glue the nose out of felt (oval), draw dots with a marker. For the eyes you will need large beads, if not, you can take any color and paint it white, put the pupil on it with a marker. We do the eyebrows. Use tweezers to pull out the strings for the ears. And you're done!

For Chuck you need white and yellow threads. We first round the pompom, then cut it into a cone. Glue the beak, eyes.

Doll

As for me, even a simplified version, without decorations and details, is interesting. But more details:

  • We wrap wool onto the base.
  • We remove and bandage. Cut off the edges of the thread
  • 2 cm below the dressing area, wrap it with thread and bandage it. This is how we formed the head.
  • Once again we wrap the wool around the base (only in a smaller size).
  • We knit this workpiece on both sides. These are hands.
  • We thread our arms through the body, under the head. We tie it right under them.

Here, as for me, the doll is ready.

But you can make her a “face” from thin felt. Sew hair on top. And, if you divide the lower part of the yarn in half and tie each half, you will get a “boy”.

Doll

Such a doll can be not just a toy, but even decoration or a Christmas tree toy.

She's not all thread, just her hair. But I liked it so much that I couldn’t pass it up.

So, for the doll you will need tulle, which we wrap on 2 cardboard circles. Then we cut and tie. In general, we make a pompom from tulle.

Next, we cover the ball with beige knitwear, using an eye shadow palette we draw cheeks, eyes, and eyebrows. We draw eyelashes with a marker. Next we do the hairstyle. We wrap the yarn around our fingers, cut it and glue it onto the crown of the doll, so that the cut edge of the thread is a bang.

Take the second bundle of thread, tie it in the middle and glue it to the bottom of the head. We lift the hair up so that it completely covers the entire back of the head and collect it in a ponytail at the top of the head. We tie it with threads.

Glue the bow, decoration, and head to the body.

You can glue a thread - a loop - on the top of the head so that the doll can be hung if necessary.

Yarn jewelry

And look how easy it is to make tassel earrings.

dream Catcher

I blogged about how to make a giant dream catcher. It is incredibly beautiful and is a worthy decor for the most expensive designer interiors.

Snood scarf in 10 minutes

New very simple pattern from the beloved Alize Puffy. We knit a snood scarf from it without knitting needles or a hook, with our own hands, in just a couple of minutes.

Wonderful pattern and video from my favorite channel.

Knitted hat and also without knitting needles.

And a gorgeous blanket

Snowflake for the New Year

We can already make pom-poms. We'll need a fairly large ball to start with.

We straighten the yarn.

First we divide into 2 halves, then in half. And then cut each part in half again. Then all 8 rays of the snowflake will be the same.

We bandage the rays, stepping back a little from the edge.

You can decorate a snowflake with beads, eyes, and embroidery.

Pillow

Do you love plush toys? I do! And I especially love to lie on them. You can make a fluffy pillowcase from leftover yarn. And it's easy to do. We wind 10-20 turns on our hand, depending on the thickness of the yarn. Remove from hand and bandage. Cut the threads. We get a skinny pompom. Now we comb it thoroughly and glue it to the base - a pillowcase using hot glue. Next, we’ll use a hair straightener and give our pillow a neat hairstyle. Ready!

Patterns, as you guessed, you can come up with yourself.

Thread dog

Do you love Yorkies? Or maybe your friend has such a dog.
Then you can give him such a magnet for the refrigerator.

Wreaths

We wrap yarn on a cardboard base and get an excellent basis for a wreath for any holiday. If you take yellow threads, you can make an Easter wreath.

Balls of thread

Here's how you can make a craft out of thread for Easter. We make a regular ball in the shape of an egg. We cut out the window and glue the decor.

The second option is suitable if you have a foam base. We stick pins along the contour of the window, wrap the base with film and weave a web. As you guessed, it is not possible to remove it from such a mold if you make a full egg at once. Therefore, we make 2 halves and at the end we tie them around the perimeter.

Letters and numbers

Need birthday decor?

We make a base out of cardboard and decorate with threads, just wrap it around!

Here are other design options:

Candy bowls

Threads make excellent vases and candy bowls.

Be sure to wrap the form in film or tape. We put the threads coated in PVA on the mold and let it harden.

Picture made of threads and nails

Recently, such paintings have become very popular.

The second option for a thread painting is gluing the threads with PVA glue. A very simple technique, and the result is beautiful!

It would seem that thread is not even fabric yet, what can be made from it? It turns out that if you fantasize and conjure a skein of thread, an original toy can be born.
There are two basic principles for creating toys from threads. The first, more complex one, consists in the fact that the threads are wound on some kind of base, and the frame takes on neat, recognizable shapes. Then the toy is decorated.
The second method is perhaps simpler. This is the creation of string toys from pompoms. That is, how the base is made from pompom threads, and then toys are folded and sewn from several of these fluffy balls.
In this article, we have collected for you several interesting and detailed master classes on making toys from threads based on the principle of winding threads onto various frames. So, let's learn a new hobby!

And again the cobweb balls

Let's start with toys made of threads and balls that have returned and become fashionable. Descriptions of the creation of such toys appeared in craft magazines back in the early 90s. Then they somehow forgot about them, but now they remember again and use the method of their manufacture to create a wide variety of accessories and interior items.

This is exactly the case when the threads will be wound onto the base, and the balloon will serve as it.
What we need:

  • wool knitting threads
  • PVA glue
  • air balloons
  • gypsy needle
  • massage cream
  • piece of cotton wool or cotton pad
  • tassel

How to do

We inflate the balloon so that it has a diameter of 10 centimeters, and tie the tail.
Apply a little massage cream to a cotton swab and coat the surface of the ball. Not too much, the cream should form a thin transparent layer. We do this so that later, when we have to remove the ball from the thread cocoon, it can easily peel off from the threads.
The thread must either be completely soaked in advance (but in an unwound state) with glue in some container, or it must be soaked gradually in this way. You should have glue in a plastic tube. We thread the thread into the gypsy needle, pierce the glue bottle through with the needle (the needle should go in on one side and come out on the opposite side) and pull the thread through it.

Thus, while winding the thread onto the ball, you will constantly pull it through the glue - and it will be wetted by it.
We release the thread from the needle and begin wrapping the ball from any convenient place. We randomly lay the thread around the ball in rings of different sizes. All this is done arbitrarily, but try to ensure that the thread does not slip and is secured when winding.
In this case, you may need an assistant to hold the bottle of glue - it will not obediently stand when you pull the thread through it. A great chance to involve your child in a fun process.

Determine the tightness of the thread winding yourself. If you lay the thread sparsely, your ball will turn out light and transparent. But a little fragile. Frequent winding will give you a denser and more reliable thread cocoon.

When winding is completed, soak the tip of the thread well with glue and carefully hide it under the skeins. We check where there are unreliable, poorly glued and secured places and additionally coat them with glue using a brush.
We hang our cocoon by the tail of the balloon to dry away from heating devices. In about a day it will dry properly. Then we will need to either untie the balloon and let it deflate gently, gradually peeling off from the inner walls of the cocoon, or simply burst it and take it out.

How to decorate

We have in our hands a ball of thread web. And what or who he will become depends on what decor you come up with for him.

It can make a wonderful Christmas tree toy made from threads. To do this, just cover the ball with a thin layer of glue, sprinkle or roll it in crumbly glitter. You can decorate it with sequins, glue applications made of thin felt or translucent designer paper, lay out patterns on it from multi-colored threads soaked in glue, or apply paint on it in spots...

There are countless decor options, so you can make these balls for an entire tree, make them different and decorate your New Year’s tree in an original way.
You can carefully cut a ball of thread, as shown in the picture, bend the edges and get a flower bud. A bouquet of such airy flowers will be simply beautiful!

If you make additional elements and attach them to a web ball, you will get, for example, a fish like this.

Fish made from threads is an excellent decoration for the home, which is also very easy to make.

We can also inflate base balloons of different sizes and make cocoons of different colors. Then we glue the resulting thread balls together, supplement them with parts made of felt, paper, thread and other materials and get more complex and very cute toys.

Of course, such toys are unlikely to be suitable directly for a child to play with due to some fragility, but they will become an amazing decoration for both the nursery and other rooms in the house, especially for various themed holidays.

Winder toys

This is what they are called by many of those whose hobby these toys made of threads and glue have become.
The threads will be wound again, but now not on balloons, but on corks and wire.
For work we will need:

  • dense wool blend threads (not too thick) or twine
  • wire 1.5mm thick
  • transparent Moment glue (for example, crystal or universal gel)
  • wine stopper
  • awl (it is not always needed)
  • needle with a large eye
  • sharp knife
  • reliable scissors or wire cutters

Using this toy as an example, we will get acquainted with the process of creating such cute animals. The principle is approximately the same all the time, but sometimes additional elements and materials are added.
So, let's begin. Using a knife, we give the necessary shape to the cork - this will be the base of the body.

We bite off small pieces of wire (first try them on the body). We pass one piece of wire through the cork in the place where the hands will be, the second at the bottom - where the legs will be. We insert another piece in place of the tail - first we thread the wire through, then we bend the tip and pull the tail back until it stops so that the bent tip is secured in the cork.

And we insert another piece of wire at the top, it will be a blank for the neck and head.
We attach a tailor's pin to the tip of the last piece of wire - it will become the spout. To do this, coat the wire and pin with glue, connect them and wrap them with any thread for reliability. The head of the pin can be immediately painted black.

Then we coat with glue the entire part of the wire intended for the neck and head, and tightly wrap, for example, jute twine around it, at the same time giving a characteristic, recognizable shape to the nose and head.

Now we will wrap the remaining limbs. Lubricate the desired piece of wire with glue and tightly wrap it in one row with our half-woolen thread.

We bend the tip of the wire to form a palm.
Now we apply glue again on top of the thread and wind the second layer, as shown in the figure.

We do the same with the second handle and legs. Of course, we don’t bend the tip of the tail, but by winding it, we make the base of the tail thicker than the tip. Then the tail will look more like a real rat's.

Then we smear glue on the rat’s body in the pelvic area and wind the thread there.

Then we move to the tip of the nose. Starting with it, we wrap the entire body of the rat and do not forget to coat the base with glue.

Let's move on to the ears. We make the frame for them from ordinary paper clips, bending them properly. Apply glue to the paper clip and wrap the area under the ear with thread in one row.

Then again we coat everything with glue on top of the thread and wrap the ears, as shown in the picture.

We bite off the excess parts of the paper clips, leaving about 5mm so that the ears can be inserted and secured on the rat’s head.
We make the eyes from the same pins as the nose. We paint the heads white and add black dots. We stick the pins in the right place.
The mustache will be made from fishing line. Don’t just thread it through the threads on the muzzle, but sew it back and forth so that the whiskers don’t pull out.

If you want to give a rat cheese, it can be made from almost anything. In this case, it is cut out of plastic, in which holes are melted, and painted yellow with acrylic paint.
Our little gray mistress is ready!

Using the same principle as creating a rat, you can also make a funny cat.
From the detailed photographic descriptions, the entire process of its manufacture is completely clear. Only here we need a whole cork for the body and another half for the cat’s head.

Let's look at how and what to do, and while working, don't forget to coat all areas of the toy's frame with glue on which we wind the thread.

To make a cat tabby, draw stripes on it with an alcohol-based marker.

Such a wonderful cat will be an excellent decoration for your workplace if you place it on the monitor and secure it there with the help of its paws and tail.

Here's another option on a cat theme. This cat has a different character, but it’s no more difficult to make. We carefully look at the photos of the detailed master class.

Cute sheep

Same scheme. The cork, cut to the desired shape, will serve as the basis of the head, and the frame of the body, like the previous cat, will be made of wire. But here there is a special moment - the creation of curls or something similar to them. How and what to do with them, see below in the comments to the photo.

Let's do the curls. To make it, we need the same threads as for winding the body, only of a different color, a smooth plate about 1.5 cm wide, a stationery knife and a needle with regular thread.
