Tanker's Day. Useful statistical information. Tankman's Anniversary Day How to celebrate Tankman's Day in Russia

"TASS/Ministry of Defense of Russia/RIA "Army of Russia" Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation"

TASS DOSSIER. On the second Sunday of September (in 2017 - September 10), every year since 2006 the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation celebrate a professional holiday - Tankman's Day.

Established by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin "On the establishment of professional holidays and memorable days in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" dated May 31, 2006. It was originally established in the Soviet Union as Tankmen's Day, celebrated on September 11 according to the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated July 11, 1946. Second Sunday in September as the date of celebration was initially established by decree of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Council of October 1, 1980.

From the history of tank forces

Before the October Revolution of 1917, tanks were not used in the Russian army, although there were projects (super-heavy tank by Vasily Mendeleev, 1911-1915) and armored vehicles were tested (wedge heel of Alexander Porokhovshchikov, 1914-1915; “Tsar Tank” by Nikolai Lebedenko 1914- 1915, etc.). The tanks supplied by the Entente countries were used by the White Army during the Civil War of 1917-1922.

On May 28, 1920, by order of the Revolutionary Military Council, the formation of autotank detachments of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (RKKA) began - the first separate military formations that used captured tanks as the main weapon.

On August 31, 1920, the first Soviet tank "Freedom Fighter Comrade Lenin", created at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant (Nizhny Novgorod) by order of the Armor Directorate of the Main Military Engineering Directorate (GVIU) of the Red Army, entered sea trials. It was a copy of the French light tank Renault FT-17. Serial production of armored vehicles in the USSR was established in 1928 (T-18). In the 1930s The tank-building industry of the USSR reached an advanced technological level, the BT series of “fast tanks” were launched, the production of multi-turreted T-28 tanks, etc. began.

In the second half of the 1930s. design bureaus under the leadership of Mikhail Koshkin and Joseph Kotin developed the T-34 and KV-1 tanks, which were superior to foreign models in their combat capabilities. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. tank troops acted as the main striking force in offensive operations and served as the basis for the stability of rifle units in defense. By the end of the war, all tank armies received the name Guards. 1 thousand 142 tank soldiers were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, 16 people were awarded this title twice. More than 9 thousand tank builders who worked in the rear received state awards. During the war, the first tank armies were formed.

Current state

Currently, tank formations are an important element of the Ground Forces of the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces). Designed to conduct combat operations both independently and in cooperation with motorized rifle units, artillery, etc.

In 2011, according to information from Anatoly Serdyukov, then Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, there were more than 10 thousand tanks in the Russian troops and in reserve.

Currently, the RF Armed Forces are armed with various modifications of the T-72, T-80 and T-90 tanks. In 2016, the 90th Guards Vitebsk-Novgorod Twice Red Banner Tank Division (Central Military District, Chelyabinsk Region) was recreated in the Ground Forces; the arrival of new and modernized tanks made it possible to re-equip 12 motorized rifle and tank battalions. Six tank companies were formed in the Airborne Forces. In 2017, it is planned to supply the troops with 905 modern tanks and armored combat vehicles.

In 2019, large-scale production of the new Russian T-14 tank will begin on the Armata unified heavy tracked platform. According to the state armaments program, by 2020 the share of modern armored vehicles in tank forces should be at least 70%.

Since 2013, annual combat training competitions for tank crews “Tank Biathlon” have been held at Russian military training grounds (since 2015 - as part of the first International Army Games).

On August 27, 2015, it became known that by order of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, black berets were returned to the tank forces - field headdresses similar to those used in the Armed Forces of the USSR. This item of clothing has become a badge of honor for the best specialists of the armored service of the Russian Armed Forces - winners of specialized competitions and military personnel who distinguished themselves in exercises and maneuvers.

Military educational institutions

The training of officers for tank forces is carried out by the Combined Arms Academy of the RF Armed Forces (Moscow; branches in Kazan, Novosibirsk), Omsk Armored Engineering Institute named after Marshal of the Soviet Union P.K. Koshevoy.

Holiday date

Every year this holiday is celebrated on the second Sunday of September.

Tankman's Day in 2016. What date?

When and by whom was the holiday approved?

Back in 1946, by a special Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics dated July 1, due to the great merits of the armored forces in defeating the enemy, the holiday “Tankmen’s Day” was introduced, which was to be celebrated on September 11.

According to the decree of the Russian President at the end of May 2006, the official holiday “Tankman’s Day” was approved, now celebrated in Russia annually on every second Sunday in September.

Traditions associated with the holiday

The purpose of establishing this holiday was to revive and develop domestic army and military traditions and further increase the prestige of military service, including in tank forces.

This professional holiday is celebrated primarily by tankers (those who serve or have served in tank forces), as well as tank builders (those who assemble tanks and other auxiliary work in tank building).

The history of the holiday dates back to 1943, when the famous Battle of Kursk took place on July 19. It is known as the largest tank battle in the history of World War II, in which Russian troops won a victory, breaking through enemy defenses.

The next year, one thousand nine hundred and forty-four, on September eleventh, tank columns made a breakthrough in the defense, thereby completely stopping the offensive. When is Tanker Day in 2016? 11 September. It is on this day this year that this joyful memorial date will be celebrated. And seventy-two years ago, this tank battle became an important milestone in the East Carpathian operation.

Who belongs to tank crews and this profession? Any member of a tank crew is called a tanker. Among them: commander, gunner, machine gunner, radio operator-machine gunner, loader, driver. In addition to the listed crew members, tank builders can also be included in those celebrating this date. This day is celebrated by all employees of the tank units of the country's Armed Forces, as well as cadets and their teachers.

Usually, Tankman's Day is marked by the presentation of memorable awards, medals, certificates, the entry of gratitude into personal files, the assignment of regular military ranks and other forms of honor. Now tank forces belong to the ground forces, which in turn are the main firepower of the entire modern army.

In general, the first tank is considered an invention of the British, but Russian designers also tried to assemble a similar unit back during the First World War. Their “brainchildren” were given the names “Tsar Tank” and “Porokhovshchikov Tank”, but they did not participate in battles then. The first Russian combat tank was assembled in 1920 in Nizhny Novgorod on August 31st. It was on that tank that domestic tank crews received their first combat achievements. At first (in 1929) the troops, which consisted of tanks and their crews, were called motorized, and then (in 1936) they were renamed armored vehicles. In 1960, these troops began to be called simply tank troops, as they are now. The most popular tank in Russia is the legendary T-34.

After the end of the Great Patriotic War, many holidays were established. One of them is Tankman’s Day, which is still celebrated by tank troops and workers of factories where these combat vehicles are produced.

history of the holiday

At the end of August 1944, the inhabitants of Slovakia rebelled against the pro-fascist government of their country, but, quickly realizing that they could suffer a crushing defeat, they turned to the USSR for help. At the Headquarters of the Supreme High Command, a decision was made to attack in the area of the border of Poland and Ukraine with the aim of connecting with the rebels.

From September 8 to October 28, the East Carpathian Operation was carried out; September 11 is considered its most successful day, when the 25th Tank Corps of the USSR broke through the enemy’s defenses and, together with other army units, stopped the enemy’s advance.

Almost 2 years later (07/1/1946) a decree was issued establishing a professional holiday for tank crews. It was because of that memorable day in 1944 that it was decided to celebrate it on September 11th. This was the case until 1980, but then by another decree the Government left a floating date so that all celebrations would take place on a weekend. Therefore, it is difficult to say exactly what date Tankman Day is celebrated - every year this date falls on the second Sunday of September. This day was finally legalized in 2006.

Who celebrates

Today, their professional holiday is celebrated not only by those who are currently serving in tank forces, but also by those who are in one way or another connected with combat vehicles:

  1. Former commanders, loaders, gunners and other tank crew members.
  2. Engineers designing armored fighting vehicles.
  3. Employees of factories producing armored vehicles.

At the end of the Great Patriotic War, there were 8 factories in the USSR that produced parts and equipment for tanks, and also assembled vehicles. Today, the country no longer needs such a volume of armored vehicles, so most of the surviving factories no longer produce combat vehicles. However, all people who have ever worked at these enterprises can also accept congratulations on Tanker Day.

It must be said that this type of army did not always have this name:

  • at the very beginning of the 20th century (until the 20s) these were the armored forces of the Imperial Army;
  • mass production of tanks began only after 1930, at the same time the mechanization of cavalry began, in connection with which the armored forces began to be called motorized mechanized troops;
  • from the mid-30s they became armored vehicles;
  • during the Great Patriotic War (in 1942) they were reorganized and received the name armored and mechanized;
  • and only after 1960 tank forces received their final name.

Since the holiday was established on the territory of the USSR, today is Tankman Day in Russia and in some former republics of the union.

Celebration

After the end of the Second World War, Tankman's Day was celebrated on a large scale for about 10 years. Fireworks were displayed and equipment parades took place. Today, such parades do not take place, probably due to the fact that the roads in cities (especially in their central part, where various parades are usually held) have been repaired, and heavy military equipment can damage the surface.

Today, celebrations are no longer held on such a grand scale, but they are nevertheless given great attention:

  1. Equipment inspections are now held at training grounds, where new tank building products often appear. They are also tested there.
  2. In addition to the vehicles themselves, the military is sometimes shown new and improved equipment.
  3. Crew members pass standards.
  4. The best military personnel are given awards.
  5. Competitions are held among tank crews for speed (who can quickly get out of a “burning” car and save their comrade), accuracy, driving technique (on an obstacle course), etc.

As a congratulation to the tanker on the second Sunday of September, well-known songs about “three cheerful friends”, “strong armor” and how tanks rumbled on the field are heard on the radio. Recently, you can often hear that happy holidays are congratulated on those who are passionate about computer games of tanks, as well as participants in the popular sport today - tank biathlon.

On the second Sunday of September in Russia it is celebrated Tankman's Day- a professional holiday of tankers and tank builders, which dates back to Soviet times.

During the Battle of Kursk on July 12, 1943, the largest tank battle of World War II took place.

The following year, on September 11, 1944, tank forces, with great firepower and striking force, made a breakthrough in the enemy’s defenses and stopped his advance, thereby achieving serious successes during the East Carpathian operation.

And after the end of World War II, in commemoration of the great merits of armored and mechanized troops in defeating the enemy during the Great Patriotic War and for the merits of tank builders in equipping the country's Armed Forces with armored vehicles, Tankman Day was established in the USSR - by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated July 11 1946.

On September 8, 1946, in accordance with the order of the Minister of the Armed Forces, a parade march of the Kantemirovskaya Guards Tank Division was held in Moscow on Red Square, which became the first official celebration of Tankman Day.

Until 1980, this holiday was celebrated on September 11, and in 1980, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, a new date for the celebration was established - the second Sunday of September.

Throughout its history, this professional holiday has been one of the most revered holidays in the military. For some time (from the 1940s to the 1950s) in major cities of the Soviet Union, Tankmen's Day was even celebrated with the ceremonial advance of tank columns through the city and fireworks.

Tankman Day is also noted in the documents of the Russian Government. Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 549 of May 31, 2006 “On the establishment of professional holidays and memorable days in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” states in particular: In order to revive and develop domestic military traditions, increase the prestige of military service and in recognition of the merits of military specialists in solving the problems of ensuring the defense and security of the state, I decree: 1. Establish in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation: a) professional holidays: ...Tankman Day - second Sunday in September;...

The history of tank forces in our country began about a hundred years ago. After England used tanks for the first time in warfare, all European states began developing their own heavy mechanized weapons. In Russia, the first tank was created at the Sormovsky plant in Nizhny Novgorod, and was successfully tested in August 1920. And in subsequent years, the necessary technical and material base was created, which became the basis for the further development of tank forces.

By the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the Red Army already had a solid tank fleet, the basis of which was light tanks: T-26, BT and medium tanks T-34, adopted in December 1939, and heavy KV-1. During the war, tank units and formations became the means of most effectively solving the most important operational tasks. In the post-war period, armored and mechanized forces continued to develop and improve.
