A set of equipment for survival in extreme situations. Survival kit for extreme conditions Survival kits and accessories

The term “survival” includes a number of knowledge and techniques that allow a person to survive in extreme conditions with a minimum set of tools and things. Extreme situations are when a person gets lost in the forest, finds himself in a natural disaster, etc. In our difficult times, you can expect anything, even terrorist attacks, from which you may have to hide.

Such situations require a person to have knowledge and special skills, as well as the presence of some household items. Otherwise, a very disastrous outcome awaits the person.

Some people are constantly faced with such conditions, due to their profession or residence in a certain area. In such cases, a person should always have a special, minimal survival kit with him.

All professional military personnel take survival courses and are aware of the “alarm suitcase.” This is a special bag or backpack where household appliances and items that may be needed in the field are stored. The military takes this suitcase with them in case of an alarm, to carry out special tasks intended to be carried out in places far from civilization.

Almost all Japanese residents are prepared for extreme situations and always have a backpack with essentials. Moreover, it is not hidden somewhere, but is located not far from the front door. The backpack contains a supply of food for 3 days, medications, copies of all documents located on electronic media, as well as a certain amount of money.

This is due to the fact that Japan is located in a zone of increased seismic activity. Earthquakes and tsunamis are fairly common occurrences in this country. When the next alarm is announced, the Japanese immediately grab their backpacks and run out into the street.

We can talk about some kind of basic survival kit, which includes a certain set of items that allows a person to hold out for some time until help arrives. This set of items may be conditional, since much depends on the conditions in which a person may find himself. If you just get lost in the forest, you may need a minimal survival kit. But if you get lost in the remote taiga, you won’t be able to get by with the bare minimum.

There are, very roughly speaking, two categories of survival kits. For example:

  • The first category is a large set that fits in a medium-sized backpack. These backpacks are not easy to carry, so they can sit in car trunks or other places, waiting in the wings.
  • The second category represents portable emergency supplies (NAS), which are designed for daily carry. In the West they are called EDC sets (every day carry). The difference between NAZ and EDC kits is that NAZ kits are designed for survival in the wild, and EDC kits are designed for survival in modern megacities.

Survival kits contain very different items, depending on the conditions of the area or time of year in which a person may find himself. The characteristics of each individual person are of no small importance. The characteristics of the human factor include the presence of various diseases or the tendency of the human body to allergies. Because of this, you must expect to expand the components included in your survival kit. Despite this, there is the concept of a standard survival kit that makes sense to talk about. In other words, there are objects or tools that you cannot do without in any case.

Firstly, the backpack must be reliable and durable, as well as waterproof. You will immediately have to give up cheap Chinese backpacks stitched with rotten threads that stick out in all directions. Be that as it may, you need to count on the fact that this backpack can and should save a person’s life. Therefore, the quality of the backpack comes first. As a rule, you should opt for a medium-sized backpack: it’s unlikely that everything will fit in a small backpack. If you take a large backpack, it can turn out to be a real burden in extreme situations, when every calorie counts. The best option is a backpack with a volume of 50 liters. Another important factor: the backpack should not attract attention. It should have a modest, discreet color: it is unknown in what conditions a person may find himself. If you have to run away from terrorists, then a bright backpack can be seen at a great distance, and this is completely useless.

It is better not to use a backpack from Maxpedition and other similar manufacturers, despite their quality. Army backpacks are also not suitable for such purposes, since they do not have the necessary qualities. If you take the most ordinary tourist backpack, then this is the best option. But here too it is necessary to pay primary attention to quality.

Food for survival: requirements

You can survive without anything, but without food a person will definitely not survive, especially at first. Therefore, it is very important to have a supply of food for three days until a person manages to navigate real conditions.

Food items included in survival kits must meet a number of requirements. For example:

  • Food should be high in calories.
  • It should not deteriorate for a long time.
  • Take up little space and have minimal weight.

Only one type of product meets such requirements - products preserved by sublimation. This is a process that contains 2 stages - freezing and drying. Due to the fact that they are not subjected to heat treatment, they retain all their nutritional properties. In addition, they significantly lose volume and weight.

Shoes for extreme situations should also be chosen correctly. Since you will have to move around a lot, and even with a backpack, you won’t get far in uncomfortable shoes. Even worse, if the leg is injured, then the person will lose mobility, and this is fraught with serious consequences. In such a situation, you should not save. This is especially true if a person ends up in a mountainous area. A good option is trekking boots that securely fix the ankle, protecting it from dislocations, and thick soles can protect the feet from sharp objects. Despite the apparent volume, they are not heavy, but at the same time very reliable and durable.

Set of clothes

It is quite natural that clothes should be selected depending on the time of year. Despite this, the principle of completing a spare kit does not depend on any factors.

That's why:

  • Underwear should only be made from natural materials, with the exception of socks. It is better to take socks with artificial threads so that they last longer.
  • The presence of thermal underwear, the task of which is to remove sweat from the surface of the human body, is not necessary, although it will be difficult without it. As a rule, thermal underwear is made from special, artificial fabrics. Sweat removal allows the body to retain heat by keeping the surface of the body dry. This is very important, especially during long journeys and low temperatures.
  • Fleece clothing, although made from synthetics, has excellent heat retention properties. In addition, it is also breathable, pleasant to the touch and fits tightly to the body. Therefore, your survival kit should include pants and a fleece jacket.
  • A thick jacket, with long sleeves and a hood, as well as thick trousers, made from both natural and synthetic fabrics (mixture). In other words, the jacket and trousers must be durable and reliable.

Survival gear

Knife or multitool

Naturally, in such situations, a knife will never be superfluous, and it is even better to have 3 knives for all occasions. One knife can be a multitool type, which makes it possible to have a whole set of necessary tools on hand. The second knife is a folding knife, and the third is a durable one, like a fixie or a mora. Naturally, this is an ideal option, so you need to have at least one knife, preferably a folding one.

Small hatchet

A small travel hatchet will do and will help save lives in dangerous situations. It will also help to make a fire in a timely manner so as not to freeze in such conditions. This is the second tool after the knife, which is difficult to do without.

Today you can count on purchasing a ready-made, factory-made filter, both domestic and imported. Naturally, the presence of a factory filter or device is additional useful space, which may be so lacking in such conditions. In addition, water purification is possible with special tablets, such as “Aquatab”, “Aquabreeze”, “Portable Aqua”, etc. We should also not forget that water can be purified using potassium permanganate, as well as in the simplest and most accessible way - by boiling.

The need for dishes

If you consider that every cubic centimeter counts, then talking about dishes as such makes no sense.

It is best to use a small travel kit, which consists of a pot with a volume of up to 1.5 liters, a lid and a mug, which is located inside the pot, according to the combined arms principle. The volume of the mug is about 0.8 liters.

In this case, ordinary matches will help, but they need to be placed in a plastic bag and sealed tightly so that they do not get damp. It is better to seal each box separately. Matches are lightweight and do not take up much space. Then you can use boxes of matches as needed. It would be better if there is another option for lighting a fire - a flint, with which you can get sparks and get a fire using flammable materials. They can be easily found in the forest: dry birch bark, dry moss, fluff, dry grass, etc. Learning to use a flint is not so difficult.

Availability of light (lighting)

In such cases, it is better to have a flashlight that shines not from batteries or an accumulator, but from a built-in generator, which is driven using a special handle. To operate this device, it is enough to use physical force. Recently, LED flashlights have become very popular, as they consume much less energy compared to conventional light bulbs. Even with batteries, such lighting devices work for a long time. In any case, if there is an alternative light source, then this is a big plus.

Survivalist's First Aid Kit

A very important component of a survival kit, especially if you have any chronic illnesses that require regular use of medications. If there are no such problems, then the first aid kit should include:

  • Sterile bandage. It is better to have several packages with different sizes.
  • A rubber tourniquet, which can be useful in cases of serious injuries with severe bleeding. A rubber tourniquet is intended to stop bleeding. At the same time, you need to know how to use it: the tourniquet is applied for a period of time, no more than 2 hours, otherwise you can lose a limb.
  • Hydrogen peroxide, for mechanical disinfection of open wounds.
  • Chlorhexidine bigluconate 0.005%. It is also used to disinfect open wounds by irrigation.
  • Iodine and brilliant green. Used to treat small wounds or their edges.
  • Activated carbon in tablet form, which quickly removes toxins from the body in case of poisoning.
  • Aspirin tablets will serve as protection for the body in case of a cold.
  • Ibuprofen or ketanol, as a pain reliever.
  • Band-Aid.

A rope, strong and up to 3 meters long, wouldn’t hurt either. In such situations, it is very important to have a rope, since you often have to tie something up, fasten something, etc. With the help of a rope, you can quickly set up temporary housing. Often, without a rope, it is difficult to overcome a small climb or lift a load to a certain height. In short, a rope, and a reliable one, will never be superfluous.

Portable emergency reserve (NAZ)

The difference between NAZ and a large set is that the entire NAZ fits in a small box, preferably a metal one, or in a small handbag. Since it is not at all large in size, it can be assumed that it should always be on the human body. You can attach it to your belt, put it in your pocket, or hang it around your neck with a cord. In other words, this is a set that is designed for a short period of time.

The average NAZ should include:

  • Not a large folding knife, with a set of blades that perform different functions.
  • A lighter, preferably in a bright color so that it is always easy to find and difficult to lose.
  • Not a large LED flashlight with a spare battery.
  • A flash drive (electronic storage medium) with basic documents recorded on it, such as a passport, driver’s license, birthday certificate and other documents. It is advisable that it be reliably protected from moisture.
  • A simple, well-sharpened pencil with a set of office stickers in bright colors.
  • A small mirror that can be used to give signals on a sunny day.
  • Super glue.
  • Sealed bags where you can place, for example, documents.
  • Packaging of sanitary napkins.
  • Alcohol wipes (injection wipes).
  • Components for fishing (line, hooks, sinkers, float).
  • "Space" blanket.

Additionally, the kit may include other components, depending on the expected conditions. At the same time, you need to remember that NAZ is a set that takes up little space and weighs little, but you can always survive with it in the wild, although you should not count on it for a long period. In any case, you need to count on the fact that help will come, and the sooner the better.

In our difficult times, the question of survival in extreme conditions increasingly arises. Some people face such conditions every day, while others have no idea what it is. Despite this, each person must be prepared to face such conditions, otherwise the consequences may be unpredictable. Nobody knows what awaits a person in the future.

This is also a way to gain some knowledge of yourself and your capabilities. Yourself as you are, without the bells and whistles of urban culture.
And yet, you will still need a certain minimum set of survival items.
A lot of different things have been written about survival kits. Therefore, in order not to repeat myself and so that the article brings real benefit to someone who suddenly finds himself in a difficult situation, I will limit myself to my own opinion on this issue.
So, the most general requirements for such a set are as follows.

  1. The set should take up as little space as possible and weigh as little as a kilogram (preferably a gram).

  2. It should include those things that you REALLY cannot do without. Experienced survivalists assemble their kits themselves; beginners can buy a ready-made one and then modify it based on their inclinations and situation. Some people claim that they can get by with just a knife. Well, maybe that's true. You can check this statement for yourself, that’s what the whole game exists for :)

  3. The kit should have DIY potential. In other words, from the items of the set, various useful devices can be made by combination.

These are the items that I consider the “heart” of the set, the part that you can’t do without.

1. A knife, or better yet, a multitool. I can’t recommend specific brands, everything is individual. The main criterion is functionality and reliability. It is imperative that the multitool tools are firmly fixed in the working position (with latches or other means). There have been cases when a cheap Chinese multitool without latches folded during use and seriously injured the operator’s fingers.

2. Lighter. It is not recommended to include a cheap transparent lighter in the kit due to its catastrophic unreliability. The lighter must be silicon, bright orange or red. If you drop a green or black lighter in the grass, you risk losing it forever.

You can read more about it here.

3. LED flashlight, powered by one battery. It is better if the flashlight body is made of anodized aluminum and is waterproof. It is not advisable to use a flashlight with a built-in battery or a rare battery. The best flashlight is one with AA or AAA type elements. In case of emergency, batteries of the same type will also be suitable for such flashlights.

4. Batteries for the flashlight. If you plan to store it for a long time without using it, wrap one of the battery poles with stretch film and insert it into the flashlight. This will keep the battery charged longer.

5. Flash card with useful information. What is considered useful information in this case is up to you to decide. I would recommend, first of all, to scan your civil documents (passport, international passport, driver's license, children's birth certificate, marriage certificate, TIN, etc.) in advance, and write the scans in the form of pictures onto a flash drive. It is advisable that the flash drive be waterproof. It happened that people were left without a passport in a foreign country, and only carefully prepared scans of documents helped them quickly return to their homeland.
6. Needle and thread of different colors. Buttons. Safety pins.
7. A simple pencil and a pack of bright office stickers. Well, everything is clear here.
8. Instant glue. The advantage of this glue is its high gluing speed and versatility. The downside is the relatively low water resistance. However, it all depends on the brand.

9. Condom. In addition to the classic one, it has another application: waterproof. At worst, if the circumstances turn out to be completely unfavorable, you can put your flash drive in it before hiding it :)

10. Sanitary napkins, as well as a special antibacterial liquid with an alcohol content of at least 60%.

11. A piece of steel wire 20-30 cm long, rolled into an oval ring. Using a wire multitool you can make many useful things, from fish hooks to... I came up with 5 options. Think more.
12. Cord made of nylon fiber 3 m long. (Replace a torn lace on a boot, tie up a load for carrying and even make a bow string...)
13. A block for sharpening a knife or a small piece of fine sandpaper.
14. Hand-held rocket launcher of the “Hunter Signal” type. Such a flare gun can not only send a signal, but also scare away a wild animal, an aggressive dog, etc. Never point the flare gun at a person!

That's basically it. Decide for yourself what to pack it all in. The main thing is that the packaging is moisture-proof and has the potential for modernization.

Your individual set can be supplemented with the following useful gadgets and devices.

1. Navigator. In the event of a Big Pe, telephone communications along with the Internet may be cut off, and navigation satellites will plow the icy expanses of space above our heads for a long time...
2. Nail 150 mm long. With such a nail, heated over a fire, you can melt plastic to make holes (you shouldn’t heat up multitool tools if you don’t want to ruin them), you can scratch arrows on plaster indicating the direction, etc.
3. Compass.
4. A small roll of stationery tape.
5. A piece of paper with useful addresses (pharmacies, hospitals in your area, domestic embassies and consulates abroad, country and city codes).
6. 0.3 liter bottle of clean still water.
7. A couple of Snickers.
8. String saw for wood.
9. Magnifying glass.
10. Catalytic heating pad and gasoline for it.
11. Adjustable wrench.
12. Jackhammer :)
The list goes on and on.

One piece of advice.
Don't turn your kit into a warehouse of unnecessary junk, in the hope that maybe some of it will come in handy someday. The main thing is skills and abilities, versatility and light weight.

The announced list is exhaustive for those who want to assemble their survivalist backpack. Of course, it may differ in details, but the general concept will not change.

Many anglers visit distant rivers and reservoirs for several days or weeks. There are no special problems if there are populated areas nearby. But when unreliable mobile communications are aggravated by the absence of people nearby, then the life and health of fishermen depends on their readiness to survive in extreme conditions.

Therefore, when going fishing in remote places for several days, you need to equip your duffel bag with a survival kit. In addition, you need a supply of food, warm clothing, bedding, dishes, personal hygiene items and various important small items.

What's included in your long-distance travel must-haves?

A survival kit occupies a special place on the list of must-have items when preparing for a long trip. The items included in it are designed to preserve the life and health of the traveler if difficulties arise.

The kit should be stored in a small airtight tin container. The inner surface of the container must be perfectly clean, empty cavities are filled with cotton wool, and for complete tightness, the joints are sealed with adhesive tape.

The kit must be periodically checked and updated, and must not be left open on the ground. This container should always be close to the owner.

Sample list of items for a survival kit

  1. Matches. Match heads must be dipped in molten paraffin to achieve a water-repellent effect. Separately, you should seal a small piece of grater with polyethylene for ignition.
  2. Candle. To save space, it is better to make the candle shape rectangular. In extreme situations, fat candles can be used in food or frying food on it.
  3. Flint or steel. The set should contain processed flint, as well as a chair made from a hacksaw blade.
  4. Needle and thread. It is advisable to have several needles, one or two of them should have a large eye. It is better to wrap each needle with a thread of appropriate thickness.
  5. Magnifying glass. Used for making fire in sunny weather.
  6. Fishing equipment. The set includes hooks (3-5 pcs.), fishing line (more than 3 m), lead weights (3 pcs.).
  7. Compass. It is preferable to have a liquid type device in which the arrowheads glow in the dark. It is imperative to check its functionality and the ease of rotation of the arrow.
  8. Silok. A device made of copper wire 60-90 cm long is suitable.
  9. Whistle or rattle to scare away wild animals.
  10. Fluorescent light source. May be needed to view the map and when fishing in the dark.
  11. Saw-string. The flexible hacksaw blade should be lubricated before placing it in the container. To use, you will need long wooden handles.
  12. First aid kit. Each type of medicine is placed together with a piece of cotton wool in airtight bags. A label should be included in the package indicating the expiration date and dosage.
    The list of fixed assets should include:
    • painkillers to relieve moderate pain;
    • stomach medications intended to eliminate diarrhea (diarrhea);
    • general antibiotics (the medicine should be enough for the course of treatment);
    • antihistamines, which eliminate allergic reactions and alleviate the human condition after insect bites;
    • pantocides - tablets that sterilize suspicious water;
    • potassium permanganate or potassium permanganate is used as an antiseptic, as well as in the treatment of fungal diseases;
    • antimalarial drugs are taken if there is a possibility of such a disease;

Drinking water is taken in the maximum volume, fruit drinks and juices are drunk first.

For personal hygiene items, you need to take soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, a towel (several pieces), shaving accessories (if desired), toilet paper, napkins, and a sponge for washing dishes.

Minor things you might need on a hike

Sufficient level of equipment required for long distance travel

Clothing and shoes are selected depending on the conditions of the area in which the trip will take place. It is imperative to find out about the nature of the weather at a given time of year, about night temperatures, and about the weather forecast for the coming days or weeks.

Basic requirements for clothing and footwear

  • appropriate size and comfort;
  • ease;
  • must allow the body to breathe;
  • provide protection from rain and cold, sun and heat;
  • new shoes must be worn in 2 weeks before the start of the expedition.

Approximate set of equipment

  1. Underwear— 2-3 sets.
  2. Thermal underwear— 1-2 sets.
  3. Knitted wool sweaters with collar- 2 pcs.
  4. Waterproof trousers- 1 PC.
  5. Jacket and raincoat— 1 pc.
  6. Insect-proof cap or hat- 1 PC.
  7. Knitted wool hat- 1 PC.
  8. Cotton socks- 2-3 pairs.

Depending on the time of year, some things from this list may not be taken.

Setting up the camp

To set up a camp on a hike you will need the following items:

  1. A tent that will accommodate all members of the expedition. It should be light, waterproof, quickly unfold and fold, have a mosquito net, a two-way zipper, preferably a “dressing room”.
  2. Sleeping bags for every traveler. In cold weather, down models will be required; in summer, sleeping bags made of synthetic “breathable” materials are suitable.
  3. Clothesline for drying clothes.
  4. Folding table and chairs.
  5. Camping gas cylinder capacity up to 5 liters with burner for quick cooking.
  6. Ax, saw for harvesting firewood and manufacturing wooden structures.

Mosquitoes. To prevent insects from interfering with your vacation, you need to take with you products that repel blood-sucking insects. These are individual creams, sprays, gels, ointments. To combat mosquitoes and midges in a tent, plates and spirals are suitable, which emit special smoke during the smoldering process.

When fishing, it is useful for every angler to have a thermos. For example, if you pour boiled water into a thermos during dinner, then in the morning you can very quickly make coffee or tea and go for the morning bite.

Let's sum it up

Fishing for a long time away from people is not only associated with various difficulties, but also with health risks. Only healthy people should go on a trip, so that they can return home rested and invigorated.

In unforeseen extreme situations, a survival kit will come to the rescue. Everyone can purchase or assemble on their own the minimum that will help the expedition members overcome the problems that have arisen.

A small amount of money spent on a survival kit will help minimize the risk to life and health for all outdoor enthusiasts.

Whether you're planning to spend a weekend in the bush or live there for a few weeks, you'll need good bushcraft - bush survival gear.

One of the main requirements for equipment is good value for money. You should be prepared to pay good money for the gear if it will last you a long time. Typically the equipment is used extensively and frequently and must withstand weeks of extended use. Most pieces of equipment will stay with you for years and maybe travel halfway around the world with you. The most durable pieces of equipment will pass the test over the years, and the rest will be eliminated over time.

Modular approach

You can take a modular approach to your bush survival gear. All items should be separated by theme - basic survival kit, emergency supplies, cooking equipment, etc. - and packed in separate bags. This system will allow everything to fit perfectly, and you will be able to quickly get organized and make sure that you only have what you need and that you haven’t packed extra stuff “just in case.” When you get out into nature, you'll have a place for everything and everything will stay in place.

"Clipping"

Here's what experienced travelers advise you to remember: sometimes a little is better than a lot. Keep your wilderness survival kit as simple and optimal as possible. Try to reduce the number of things, but increase their functionality. Below is a set of things - the result of careful “cutting off” the unnecessary.

Sleep and Shelter Kit

1. Sleeping bag. From a variety of bags, you need to choose the one that is best suited for a given time of year and area. If weight is a deciding factor, you can choose a sleeping bag with goose down. Otherwise, take synthetic sleeping bags - they are stronger, cheaper, and easier (and also cheaper) to wash.

2. Travel mat. There are self-inflating mattresses and “foam” mattresses, which are closed-cell foam mats. Everyone chooses what is more convenient for them.

3. Waterproof sleeping bag. A regular army bag is one of the best. It's simple, durable, spacious, not too heavy, and relatively inexpensive. It can be stored in a bag. A little tip: it's better to crumple it than to fold it neatly - constantly bending it in the same places will reduce its water-repellent ability, so just stuff it in at random.

4. Tarpaulin. Under a decent-sized piece of tarpaulin you can not only sleep, but generally live. There is much more space underneath than there would be in a tent. In fairly warm seasons, it is better to spend the night in the forest this way. You'll wake up fresh and alert and right in your environment, not cut off from it. There are many different types of tarps on the market today. We can recommend the Hilleberg XP10 - it weighs no heavier than other types of awnings, but provides twice as much space. Its dimensions are 3.5 by 3 meters, which means 10 square meters of space. When you take a tarp with you, always take a rope that you will tie between the trees in order to throw the tarp over it. You can hang things, such as a flashlight or wet socks, on the same rope under the tarp, and not be afraid that they will get wet by rain.

Carrying kit

5. Backpack. Tastes are different. This set features the Karrimor SF Saber 45. Some people like pockets with drawstrings, others like pockets with straps or zippers, and so on, choose what is more convenient for you.

6. Compression bag. This set features Ortleib dry bag. It's not the lightest, but it's very durable and completely waterproof.

Cooking and water

7. Tin pot. Here is the Zebra Stainless Steel Billy Can, which is very common among tourists. It is absolutely impenetrable and can last for years. And it's quite heavy. It’s better to store it in a bag so as not to stain all the other things in the backpack with soot, and you can put a collapsible sink and a collapsible water canister in the pot itself.

8. Water purifier. The very first and most reliable method of water purification is boiling. But it's not always possible to start a fire, especially when you're on the road. When there is no time to deal with fire, you can use the effective and easy-to-use Pre-Mac MWP water purifiers.

9. Spoon. Of all the cutlery, you can only get by with a spoon.

10. Water bottle and metal mug. Simply necessary for survival.

11. Another bottle of water. It is better to be able to carry at least two liters of water with you.

Personal hygiene

12. A set of toiletries. To go to the restroom. This is a very small duffel bag that contains toilet paper, wet wipes, alcohol-based hand gel and a lighter.

13. Wash set. In the fresh air it is necessary to maintain hygiene. You need to take the most necessary supplies with you. The basics of the set: toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and razor. You can use the mirror on the compass as a mirror when shaving (point 29).

Cloth

14. Waterproof suit. There are now a great variety of different impermeable lightweight clothing on the market, aimed primarily at climbers. They provide excellent protection, but are easily damaged in forests. In order to crawl through bushes, carry brushwood, and so on, you will need something stronger. Not to mention the fact that you can burn it through. A quality waterproof jacket (pictured is the Norrona Recon Jacket, but this is by no means the only option) combined with inexpensive but reliable, durable pants will help you survive even hours of rain.

15. Insulated clothing. Swandri's classic wool shirts are perfect for the forest without the worry of them catching fire with a single spark. They are much stronger than a wool sweater.

16. Spare clothes. Spare socks, underwear and T-shirt.

17. Light, warm clothing. For example, Ullfrott 200g top. It can be put in a duffel bag. It can also be carried in a sleeping bag for unexpectedly cold nights. Many people wear this clothing as a top and not as a bottom - this is wrong, it is not designed for that, it is made to be worn under another layer of clothing. The knit stitches pull out easily, so you need to wear at least something over it, at least a simple cotton shirt. You can put items 18, 19 and 20 in the same duffel bag when they are not needed.

18. Bandana. Large cotton bandana. It can be used in many ways - from a scarf to a towel, from a primitive water filter to a bandage.

19. Warm hat. Always remember to take a light but warm hat with you, regardless of the time of year. Heat loss through the head can be very significant.

20. Sun protection hat. Even in the woods on a hot day, wearing a hat can have a huge impact on your performance and fatigue levels. The brim protects your eyes from the sun and your ears from sunburn. This type of hat, like the one in the photo, will help you hide your head and shade your face - in case you want to remain invisible in the wild.

Equipment

21. Headlamp. During the summer months, a headlamp isn't as necessary, but it's still a good idea to always bring one.

22. Axe. An ax isn't really necessary for a weekend in the woods, but it can be a great help if you know how to use it safely.

23. Bushcraft knife. The most important tool for this.

24. Folding saw. Together with a knife - an irreplaceable combination.

25. FlintSwedishFiresteel. This simple item is a reliable way to make fire. According to the manufacturer, it can withstand 12,000 uses (imagine carrying 12,000 matches with you!). However, in some situations it is easier to use matches, so it is better to bring some with you.

26. Bag for small items. You can put as much here as you want and as much as you can fit.

27. First aid kit. Its contents are the subject of a separate article. A small first aid kit should help you deal with cuts and other minor injuries. It's best to add a bandage in case of serious damage. Military headbands absorb moisture well and are packaged in waterproof packaging.

28. Card and card case. The case is very important, otherwise the card will get wet. If you have a lot of cards, you can carry them in special Aloksak pockets.

29. Compass. Pictured is Silva Ranger 15TDCL. A compass is a simple but reliable item. It doesn't require batteries, rarely makes mistakes, and you can always trust it. It can be used for more than just finding north. The mirror in it is useful for many actions - from removing specks from the eye to signaling for help over long distances.

30. Notebook with cover. Useful for writing notes, recording important information, keeping a diary, sketching, and so on.

31. Binoculars. A very important piece of equipment. Bushcraft is not just about surviving with minimal means (as you might think from this article), but rather about exploring the wild. Binoculars are the main assistant in this matter. Whether you're watching a deer in the woods or a butterfly on the nearest flower, binoculars can help you see so much more without being seen yourself.

Over time, everyone will develop their own preferences in the things necessary for survival in the forest. The set shown here is just an example, but everyone has different preferences, so choose what works best for you personally.
