In the history of fashion - the most desirable ItBags who have won more than one woman’s heart. We have translated the material into Russian and talk about the most famous bags in modern history.

Grade

The It Bag can transform and elevate even the simplest outfit, and what's more, iconic bags only get better with age and time. That's why you firmly believe in the idea of investing in classic handbags from famous brands. Unlike clothes or shoes, bags.

They tend to stand the test of time, so it's worth spending a little more money on something that will be a status symbol for many years to come. A study by NPD Group found that US handbag sales in 2015 increased five percent over 2014, amounting to a whopping $11.5 billion! To help every girl find her soulmate bag, we've compiled a list of the 30 most iconic bags of all time.

The Speedy Louis Vuitton bag was created in 1930 for the classic 30 cm size, and in 1965 a 25 cm version was created for the actress and its competitor, the Louis Vuitton Goyard bag, was created a year later, and is still so popular, that advertising has never been and is not used to promote it. And of course, we just couldn't forget about the world's most coveted classic Chanel 2.55 bag!

One of the most luxurious bags of all time got its name thanks to its date of birth - February (second month of the year) 1955

Thanks to the fame of the stars who wear it, the price of Chanel 2.55 bags increases every year, and the bag is now available in different fabrics and colors. If 2.55 is still a little expensive for you, then you can pay attention to the bags created by Karl Lagerfeld. Take the Fendi Baguette, which undoubtedly earned its It Bag status after being made a hit on Sex and the City.

In 2007, Vogue reported that 100,000 Fendi Baguette bags were sold in its first year alone

The fashion house Gucci began using bamboo during World War II as an alternative material for its products. The Gucci Bamboo bag instantly became super popular - it was worn by 50s sex bomb Elizabeth Taylor and.

French fashion house Hermès practically invented the It Bag with the creation of the classic Kelly bag in 1930.

Speaking of celebrities, one cannot help but remember that many famous bags were named after ladies. Which inspired the designers to create. Take, for example, “Jackie” Gucci, which appeared thanks to p. Or, named after Lady Diana in 1995. Another muse is Ricky Lauren, the wife and inspiration of designer Ralph Lauren, for whom he created the Ricky Ralph Lauren bag, which became the personification of classic American style.

In 2013, the American house “updated” the bag and called it Soft Ricky.

PHOTO: JANE BIRKIN WITH BIRKIN HERMES BAG

And, of course, it’s simply impossible to talk about iconic bags without mentioning Birkin Hermès. The Birkin story began in 1981, when Jane Birkin met Robert Dumas-Hermes' son Jean-Louis Dumas on an airplane; they exchanged ideas on how to make a functional and practical bag. So a few years later, in 1984, the iconic Birkin bag appeared.

Victoria Beckham owns a bag collection worth an estimated £1.5 million, and Clint Eastwood's daughter gave her $100,000 crocodile Birkin to boyfriend and artist Tyler Shills to destroy in the name of art.

It Bags became a demonstration of the special position occupied in society in the 2000s - in the era of unbridled glamor. In 2003, Mulberry launched the Bayswater bag, named after an area of west London and designed by Nicholas Knightley. Despite the £600 price tag, the Bayswater Mulberry is quickly becoming a bestseller. As if in contrast to it, in 2009 the “anti-It Bag” appeared - a minimalist backpack without PS1 Proenza Schouler logos.

2009 was the year when many It Bags were created. Thus, he witnessed the birth of the Celine Luggage Tote - the favorite bag of Nicky Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Leighton Meester and other icons of the 2000s.

Werewolf brands and more (leather goods)

I published articles about werewolf brands of clothing, shoes, electronics and household appliances a long time ago, and they were read by a large number of people. Now there is a need to create another article - on dubious brands in the field of leather goods (bags, purses, wallets, document covers, and so on).

Attention! Classifying any brand as a werewolf is a very responsible matter. It's hard to say anything with 100% certainty, so... I'm not taking on this matter. Therefore, I emphasize that here I am collecting simply suspicious brands. And I explain why they are suspicious. In addition, brands that do not hide their Russian origin are placed here: just for information, since there are people who, due to the fact that the name is foreign, think that the brand itself is, say, English or Italian.

Despite the fact that I took a very responsible approach to compiling this material, I could make mistakes. Therefore, you can use the information only at your own peril and risk. I emphasize that the presence of a brand in an article does not mean that it is a “werewolf”. I undertake to correct incorrect data upon request if irrefutable evidence of their erroneousness is provided.

Alessandro Beato. It seems that products of this brand are sold only in Russia and, possibly, CIS countries. The brand does not have its own website. There is no information about him on the Italian-language Internet either. The country of manufacture, judging by some online stores, is China.

Antonio Biaggi. Positions itself as an Anglo-Italian brand of footwear and leather goods. It has English and Italian language sections of the site, but in the “Where to buy” sections in these sections you can only find Russian and Ukrainian stores. The domain of the international website Antonio Biaggi is registered to the Ukrainian company Antonio Biaggi Ukraine LLC (see). There is no information about Antonio Biaggi leather goods on the foreign Internet. As the brand itself states on its website, Antonio Biaggi products are made in Italy, Portugal, Brazil and China.

Aurelli. This brand is positioned as Italian, but has only an English-language website, and this website is primitive, the online store does not work on it (as of 08/29/2017 there were no available payment methods even for the brand’s supposed native Italy). The domain of this site is registered by a Russian registrar (to whom exactly, it is impossible to find out). The Aurelli brand is manufactured in China.

Some stores pass off this brand as Italian. He doesn’t even have a website in Russian; There is no information about Barkli bags and leather goods on the Italian and English-language Internet. The brand's items are apparently only sold in Russia and possibly some nearby countries. Judging by the information on the websites of some stores, these things are made in China.

Beidi Erke (B.D.E.K). Judging by the information on the websites of some online stores, it is a Chinese brand with Chinese production. Beidi Erke does not seem to have its own website, nor does it have any company stores. Some sellers talk about some Italian quality.

Brialdi. Pretends to be an Italian brand. There is a rather lengthy legend. The site is only in Russian; there is practically no information about the brand on the foreign Internet. The boxes in which some items are packaged are provided with text only in Russian. The country of manufacture of items is not indicated on the website. It is claimed that the items are handmade, but it is obvious that they are all sewn on ordinary machines.

Bristan Wero. It poses as an Italian brand, and has an immodest legend in its arsenal. The site, however, is only in Russian. There is no information about this brand on the Italian-language Internet at all. Bristan Wero products appear to be sold only in Russia (and perhaps in some CIS countries).

On its website, this brand indicates that it appeared in 2011 as a result of cooperation between an Italian design studio and a Russian leather workshop (it would be more correct to say a factory, given the Carlo Gattini assortment, which includes hundreds of items). What kind of studio, where it is located, what website it has is unknown. There is no information about leather goods and Carlo Gattini bags on either the English or Italian-language Internet. They are produced in Russia (the brand does not hide this); Apparently they are also sold only in Russia.

Chatte. This brand claims to be French, but only has an English-language website. This site is simple, its domain is registered by a Russian registrar in the name of a person from Moscow. The online store on this site, as of August 29, 2017, apparently did not work, since there were no payment method options even for the brand’s supposed native France.

Brand Cristina Rui can hardly be called truly Italian. He does not have his own website; and on reference sites about trademarks you can find information that although the Cristina Rui brand is indeed registered in Italy, it was only in 2009, and its owner is Fenglei Wu - it doesn’t look like it’s Italian... And the prices for Cristina Rui bags are quite tall. Cristina Rui products are sold in Russia, Ukraine, Latvia and the Czech Republic; It was not possible to find sellers in other countries.

D'Angeny. Supposedly an Italian brand. However, he does not have a website in Italian, and there is no information about him on the Italian or English-language Internet. d'Angeny products appear to be sold only in Russia and some CIS countries.

David Jones. There is such an Australian online store, but what is sold in Russian online stores under the guise of David Jones Paris is related to it. And, of course, it has nothing to do with Paris either.

Dierhoff. On its website, the brand indicates that its products are considered the standard of quality and style, talks about some Italian roots and a master with the surname Dierhoff... However, this brand has a full website only in Russian, there is nothing in Italian. There is a simple website in English, but it is registered to a private person from Russia and is also hosted in Russia (see). There is no information about Dierhoff leather goods in the Western European segment of the Internet.

Dissona. There is information that this brand used to be Italian, but now it has a website only in Chinese, and the brand is registered to a Hong Kong company (see and); The Gillivo brand is also registered to the same company, which will be discussed below. Some stores call the Dissona brand Italian, which is questionable for the reasons stated above. Moreover, there is reason to believe that this brand was previously Chinese, since its website from 2006 has been preserved (see). There are sections in Italian and English, but the contacts are only Chinese and Hong Kong, and the description text in English was clearly written by someone who speaks this language very poorly (or it is just a machine translation).

Domani. A network of multi-brand stores of bags, accessories and shoes. Among the brands there are both fairly well-known international brands and very suspicious ones, and among the suspicious ones is the Domani brand. The website of the company and brand Domani is only in Russian. There is no information about this brand on the English- or Italian-language Internet. Apparently, the company's products are sold only in Russia and the CIS countries. There are no special legends on the Domani website, although for some reason it is stated that Domani is one of the world's leading brands.

Dor. Flinger. Brand of bags and wallets. Doesn't have its own website. Some online stores position the brand as German, world-famous and very fashionable (allegedly it participates in foreign fashion shows, wallets are designed by world-famous designers, and so on). However, on the foreign Internet there is information about Dor. There is no Flinger at all. These items are sold only in Russia and the CIS countries.

Dr. Koffer. It is positioned as an American brand, has a decent English-language website and even Twitter; There is information about it on the English-language Internet. However, using Google Trends, you can determine that the query “Dr. Koffer" Google is asked only by Russian users (see). Moreover, it turned out that the domain of the English site Dr. Koffer is registered to a Russian person. Maybe the owner really lives in the USA and runs the brand from there, but the brand is clearly aimed specifically at Russian consumers.

Eleganzza. This supposedly Italian brand with a detailed legend on its website is suspicious for several reasons. Hosting of the Italian site is in Russia. The Italian-language site is noticeably poorer in content than the Russian-language site. There are several dozen Russian stores, but in Italy there is only one showroom (by the way, opened relatively recently). The online store is only in Russian, only for Russia. There is practically no information about this brand on the foreign Internet. Finally, the words “dynamically developing fashion house” in the brand descriptions in English and Italian are an argument in favor of the fact that the original text was in Russian, because Russian companies are very fond of such wording.

Supposedly Italian bag brands are very suspicious Fiato And Curanni. Information about them is available almost exclusively on the Russian-language Internet. The prices are quite high. There are no official websites at all, but we were able to discover that in February 2013 the domains bags-fiato.ru and bags-curanni.ru were registered to a Russian private individual. In addition, a Chinese website was discovered that offers a wide range of Curanni bags (see).

Fabretti. Another supposedly Italian brand. The site is only in Russian, and the coordinates of only Russian stores are indicated there; There is no information on the Italian-language Internet. Fabretti bags and other products are sold mainly in Russia. It is worth adding that, apparently, the Fabretti brand is closely related to the Leo Ventoni brand, which will be discussed below. On Wildberries, for Fabretti products, Russia is indicated as the brand country, and Italy as the manufacturing country... however, it is worth keeping in mind that the Made in Italy label does not guarantee that the product was made in Italy at least half (for more details, see) .

Franco Bellucci. Polish brand of bags, wallets and other accessories. He does not hide his origin, but due to the obvious name “under Italy” he falls into the category of “werewolves”. There is no Italian language on the Franco Bellucci website at all, there is English, Polish and German. It is worth adding that in Russia shoes under the Franco Bellucci brand are also sold, but on the official website of this Polish brand the shoes are not presented at all, and in the Polish segment of the Internet there is information only about bags and accessories of this brand. Therefore, it is possible that Franco Bellucci shoes have nothing to do with Poland.

Francesco Marconi. This brand claims its Italian origin. The name, apparently, is “inspired” by the name and surname of the Italian opera singer Francesco Marconi, who lived at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. In Italy, no one knows about the Francesco Marconi brand, neither does the Italian Google. The brand has a foreign website, but there is practically no information there. There is only a small legend about the mythical designer Francesco Marconi. What is especially interesting is that if you add /new/ to the site address, a new version of the site will appear. And there is already another legend. There is not a word about Francesco Marconi, but there is talk about the partnership of the Italian Tonelli family with the Russian distributor. There is information that this is a brand specially created for Russia.

In at least one place there is an obvious untruth, showing the dishonesty of the brand owners. It is also interesting that in the “Contacts” section the Moscow Show-room is indicated, but there is no version of the site in Italian at all. As you might guess, Francesco Marconi products are sold mainly in Russia, but where they are produced is not really known. However, this Chinese site raises suspicions. And there is information that at least some of Francesco Marconi's bags are made in China. Some models, perhaps in Italy. The prices are quite high, there are reviews both positive and negative.

Francesco Molinary. Quite an interesting situation. The brand tells a legend about itself, but does not directly declare its Italian origin (rather, it simply very actively hints at it). His website is only in Russian; information about Francesco Molinary bags is available only on the Russian-language Internet. And from the very name of the brand you can guess that it is not Italian: the letter “y” at the end of the surname is atypical for the Italian language. The surname of musician and conductor Francesco Molinari, whom the brand considers the inspiration for its name, also does not have the letter “y”: it sounds like Molinari-Pradelli.

Galaday. Sometimes this brand is positioned as Italian, but the Wildberries store directly writes: the country of the brand is Russia. Made in China. The site is not even in Russian; the site is only in Chinese (galaday.asia), and is very simple. It is worth adding that, apparently, the Galaday brand is associated with the Leo Ventoni brand, which will be discussed below.

Gaude. De jure the brand is Italian, but there are several “buts”. His Italian site is noticeably more modest than the Russian one and very poor in content. The domain of this site is registered to an Italian company, but the contact person is a lady with a Russian-language first and last name (you can check it). Gaude bags seem to be sold only in Russia and some CIS countries. I did not find any offers in Western European stores. According to a message from a Gaude representative, the brand was indeed founded by a Russian citizen, and Gaude items have been produced since 2009, also mainly in Russia (from 2017, production will be entirely Russian).

Gillian. Bags of this brand can be found in the Domani stores mentioned above. The brand is positioned as Italian, but there is no information about it on the Italian Internet. There is no website at all, even in Russian. Production, as indicated on the Domani website, is Chinese.

Gillivo. A shady brand that apparently doesn't have its own website. On the English-language Internet, I found information that the brand was founded in 1988 in Paris, and its second name is Jia Liao (apparently, the founders are Chinese). At the same time, one of the Russian online stores states that the brand was created in 1985 in Italy. There is very little meaningful information about this brand on the English-language Internet, and there is none at all on the Italian-language Internet. The brand is registered to a Hong Kong company (see).

Giorgio Ferretti. A very suspicious brand of bags and wallets, which is positioned as Italian. There is practically no information about the Giorgio Ferretti brand on the foreign Internet; This brand’s websites are only in Russian. The question of where Giorgio Ferretti accessories are produced is cleverly avoided everywhere; But there are unproven words that the brand has existed since 1975, that the best Italian designers are working on the development of products, that Giorgio Ferretti products are very popular all over the world. However, it is easy to see that the last statement is incorrect: Giorgio Ferretti bags and accessories are sold only in Russia and Ukraine. The prices are quite high.

Kellen. At least some stores claim that it is an Italian brand with Italian production. This brand does not have a website at all. There is no information about him and his bags on the Italian-language Internet. These bags seem to be sold only in Russia (and, perhaps, in some CIS countries).

Lakestone. The site is only in Russian. There is no information about bags of this brand on the English-language Internet, so it seems that they are sold only in Russia and, perhaps, some CIS countries. Speaking about itself, the brand says that it is “filled with the ideas of British designers,” but there is no direct indication of English origin.

Lamagio. There is no website at all, not even in Russian. Information about bags of this brand is only available on the Russian-language Internet. The country of production of bags is Russia. Sometimes this brand is presented by sellers as Italian.

Labbra. The site is only in Russian; There is no information on the origin of the brand, but in stores this brand is often positioned as Italian. There is no information about Labbra bags on the foreign Internet. These bags are made in China.

Leo Ventoni- supposedly an Italian brand of bags and leather goods. The site is only in Russian. Products are presented only in stores in Russia and CIS countries. There is no information about Leo Ventoni bags on the Italian-language Internet (more precisely, there is one article, but on a very primitive website and, moreover, with prices in rubles).

Lorenzo Pratto. I couldn’t find the website of this brand, but on the website of Domani stores that sell things of this brand, the cards of several products say that the manufacturer is Russia. It is curious that the Pan Suitcase website provides different information (brand country - Italy, country of production - China). There is no information about Lorenzo Pratto on the Italian-language Internet.

Marina Creazioni (Marina C). De jure the brand is Italian, but it belongs to the Trade House company, which seems to be owned by a woman from Russia (you can check the Marina-C.it website using this service). It is very likely that Russia is the main market for this brand.

Mattioli. Belarusian manufacturer of bags. Currently, he writes openly about his origins. Mattioli bags are sold in four countries: Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan. Made in Belarus.

Moronero. Sometimes this brand of bags is called a famous Italian brand, but it does not have a website in Italian, and there is no information about it on the Italian-language Internet.

Nobel. Sometimes this brand is presented as German, but in fact it is Turkish - even a very cursory search on the English-language Internet shows this. Production is also Turkish. The English site is not available.

Palio. Another supposedly Italian brand. He does not have a website at all, but products of this brand are sold in some large Russian online stores. There is no information about Palio bags on the foreign Internet, but there is information that this brand belongs to a Chinese company (see). The country of origin of Palio bags is China. The distributor of Palio in Russia is the same company that supplies Fabretti and Leo Ventoni products (see above).

Pellecon (shop). Here you can find products from both the real Italian brand Tony Perotti and very dubious brands: Cefiro, Dierhoff(already discussed above), Pellecon, Sergio Valentini, Taoko Tanishi. There is no meaningful information about these brands on the foreign Internet; Sergio Valentini has a foreign website, but it is hosted in Russia, the domain is also registered in Russia.

Pimo Betti (PimoBetti). It is stated that this is an Italian brand. He does not have a website in Russian, Italian, or English, but I found some rather interesting information about the registration of this trademark to a Chinese company (see). Pimo Betti bags are sold very actively in Russia, but I could not find them in Western European stores. There is no meaningful information about this brand on the Italian-language Internet. Judging by the websites of some online stores, the country of production of Pimo Betti products is China.

Redmond. Very often in shopping centers there are stores of this brand, which has nothing to do with the USA and Italy. However, Redmond did not create any special legends - the brand’s website only talks about the collaboration of Russian, Italian and American designers (which is very, very difficult to verify). Redmond products are produced in Russia and, probably, in China. Definitely not in Italy. However, Redmond's quality is good, there are many positive reviews. Just keep in mind that this is a Russian brand.

Sabellino. This is an honest brand, but the “Italian-sounding” name may mislead someone, so it’s worth including it here for the sake of completeness. On his website he writes about Russian origin and that the products are made in Russia, China and Italy. One of the features of the brand is the production of leather goods from eco-leather (a high-quality and environmental substitute for leather). The same company also owns the Piero brand.

Sara. The brand is positioned as Italian, but there is no information about it on the Italian-language Internet (more precisely, I managed to find the page of some leather goods store on Facebook, but it has a different logo, and the page is almost empty, it has not been updated since 2010). The Sara brand also does not have a website in Russian. Sara bags are made in China. (I will note in the margin that Sara Burglar is a real Italian brand and is not related to Sara).

Sefaro Collection. The brand does not hide its Russian origin, but indicates that its bags and accessories are manufactured in Italy by Pelleteria Luisa. There are many things that confuse me at once: 1) very low prices - simply unrealistic for real Made in Italy products made of genuine leather; 2) a mistake in the word Pelletteria - Italians would never make a spelling mistake in the name of a company, because in Italian there is only the word Pelletteria; 3) the presence of a couple of companies with the same name - they seem to be registered in Italy, but are called Pelletteria Luisa di Zheng Ming Fang and Pelletteria Luisa di Zhang Zhongwu; 4) the absence of links to the company’s website and generally any information about it - except that it is supposedly based in the city of Bergamo.

The most interesting thing is that some Sefaro Collection bags have Florence written on them - and on some other sites they are also sold as Florence Collection, also allegedly made in Italy. The prices are unrealistically low. The distribution of Florence Collection bags in Russia is handled by a certain “Innovative Trading Company” - a dynamically developing company, as they write on their website. Of course, there is no information about Florence Collection brand bags outside the Russian-language Internet.

Sergio Belotti. Another "Italian". Italian Google, however, knows practically nothing about this brand; the results are in Russian. The prices are high, the quality is said to be good. The brand’s website is only in Russian, and it’s very poor. A legend about Italian masters, but not particularly well-developed. Needless to say, Sergio Belotti is known only in Russia (and even then, fortunately, not too widely). For many Segio Belotti products on Wildberries, China is indicated as the country of origin.

Sergio Valentini. The brand is passed off as Italian (at least sometimes). She has a foreign website. but only in English - and it is hosted in Russia, the domain is also registered in Russia. There are some complaints about the quality.

S.Quire. A brand of leather goods and various accessories that passes off as Italian. There is no own website; information about the brand is only available on the Russian-language Internet. The very presence of a flask with the Russian coat of arms in the assortment raises serious doubts about the Italian origin of the brand; prices are too low for Made in Italy items.

Stevens. There are at least two brands of bags with this name. One of them is clearly Russian, has a website only in Russian and does not hide its Russian origin and production. Another brand, Stevens (with the signature Designed in London under the logo) has an English-language website, but this site is primitive, the online store does not work on it (as of 08/29/2017; when you click on Proceed to checkout, a window appears with the inscription “text here” , and that’s it / see screenshot below). The domain of this site is registered by a Russian registrar in the name of a person from Moscow. At the same time, the brand itself is presented as English. It is made in China.

Tony Bellucci. Some stores pass off this brand as Italian, but Wildberries.ru directly writes: the country of the brand is Turkey, the country of production is Turkey. The official website - Bondnon.com - is only available in Turkish. There you can find products not only by Tony Bellucci, but also by another brand owned by the same company - Bond (Bond Non). This site states that the products are made in both Turkey and Italy, but all ten models that I randomly selected from Wildberries were made in Turkey.

TonyPerotti.ru. This “official distributor of Tony Perotti in Russia” sells products not only of the Italian brand Tony Perotti, but also of other rather dubious brands: Bruno Perri, I Dogi, Maria Carla, Valentina, Valia, Winpard, Valeri. There is practically no information about Bruno Perri, Valia, Valeri leather goods on the foreign Internet. There is information about I Dogi, but it is a manufacturer of lamps, not leather goods. Italian brands with the name Valentina (there are at least two of them) are unlikely to produce belts that cost 670 rubles. Winpard is a Chinese brand that does not hide its origin. As for Maria Carla, there are at least two brands with this name; Milanese Maria Carla's bags are much more expensive than on the website TonyPerotti.ru, and another brand, Maria Carla, does not have its own website and is quite suspicious.

Another mysterious leather goods brand - Vacheron, about which I wrote in a little more detail here. Its owners wanted to modestly join the fame of the famous Swiss watch brand Vacheron Constantin. The Vacheron brand is also positioned as Swiss, the prices are high. Moreover, the site is only in Russian; The domain is registered in Russia and the server is also located in Russia. There is no information about Vacheron leather goods on the foreign Internet, and representatives of Vacheron Constantin state that this Vacheron has nothing to do with them. Since 2015, the owners of this mysterious brand have rebranded; now it is called Narvin (Narvin by Vasheron).

Velina Fabbiano. A brand of bags that was founded in 2002 and belongs to the Chinese company HAILAN Leather Co. Made in China, this brand has nothing to do with Italy. However, the international website of the brand honestly talks about its Chinese origin.

Venera (Rosaria-Venera, Venera-Rosaria). The brand is positioned as Italian, but it does not have an Italian website. There is an English-language website, but it is very simple and has Russian telephone numbers. There is no information about the products of this brand on the Italian-language Internet.

In addition, leather goods are also sold under werewolf shoe brands in relevant stores - for example, Mascotte, CorsoComo, Carlo Pazolini, Carnaby, Chester And TJ Collection. In a chain of shoe stores Tervolina brands presented Gaetano Riva And Propaganda, possibly belonging to this network (they do not have websites, information about the products of these brands is only on the Russian-language Internet; the largest range of their items is on the Tervolina website). Many dubious brands can be found in stores Lady & Gentleman city. Read more about suspicious brands in the clothing industry, and in the shoe industry.

Finally, it is worth mentioning honest leather goods brands. Not all, of course, but only some. These are Petek (Turkey, but has been operating since 1855 and has a good price-quality ratio), Longchamp (France), Le Tanneur (France), Gerard Henon (France), Piquadro (Italy), Hermes (France), Louis Vuitton (France) ), Calabrese (Italy), Lancel (France), Tuscany Leather (Italy), Delsey (France), Samsonite (USA), Gucci (Italy), Montblanc (Germany), Michael Kors (USA) and others. Please note, however, that these brands are not necessarily manufactured in their country of registration.

*Review of the best sites according to the editors. About the selection criteria. This material is subjective in nature, does not constitute advertising and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before purchasing, consultation with a specialist is required.

A man's bag is always functional, because representatives of the stronger sex choose mainly practical things and accessories. However, designers all over the world are working on pattern shapes, using different materials and colors - all to ensure that haberdashery products for men are not only comfortable, but also in line with fashion trends. EXPERTOLOGY magazine presents a rating of the 13 best men's bags.

How to choose a men's bag

The first thing that is important to pay attention to is the material used to make the bag. A high-quality product that will last for many years should be made of leather, but sellers often pass off its artificial substitute as a natural material.

4 tips on how to identify genuine leather independently when getting acquainted with haberdashery in a store:

  1. Look for the skin sample label. Large manufacturers include it on the label. Genuine leather is soft, does not flake, does not melt, the pattern is shaped (leatherette has a diamond shape).
  2. The smell of natural material is specific and leathery, while leatherette has an artificial smell, reminiscent of paint.
  3. Surface properties: when touching a leather product, a feeling of heat transfer occurs. A more accurate indicator is wet hands; natural material does not retain droplets of water on its surface, but absorbs it.
  4. On the leather bag itself there are areas with exposed edges, where you can also see the structure of the material. As a rule, leatherette products do not have such cuts; all edge areas are carefully folded and stitched.

To identify real suede just run your hand against the “wool”: the natural material will change shade, the artificial one will remain the same. This unique property of suede fabric cannot be faked at present.

The second point of choice is the quality of the lining. Open the bag and evaluate the integrity of the seams, the uniform distribution of fabrics, and the serviceability of the internal locks. The fabric in the stitching areas must be dense, protruding threads are unacceptable.

Accessories should be comfortable: the buttons close without effort, as do the zippers and latches. Please note: applying force to close the locks is undesirable, it is inconvenient and leads to wear of the fittings.

Pens should be comfortable, fit well in the hand without slipping. Shoulder bag straps should be chosen not narrow, but wide - this way the loaded product will not put pressure and cut your shoulder. The length of almost all straps is adjustable; in addition, they can be equipped with locks and anti-slip pads.

When choosing a bag made of good leatherette, pay attention to the quality of the seams, lining and fittings. The situation is similar with the selection of textile products.

The best inexpensive men's bags

Budget brands make bags from leather and its substitutes, but not of the highest quality, but in some cases this statement is unjustified and the products actually last a long time, maintaining their appearance.

The Italian brand Malgrado opens our rating. This is a recognizable brand of inexpensive leather goods produced in Chinese factories under the copyright control of the country that owns the brand.

The Malgrado line has perhaps the widest selection of men's bags of various styles: briefcases, large and small models, bowlers and duffles, business cards, man purses. They are sewn using high-quality genuine leather in brown, black and gray colors. The products are practical - they have many pockets with high-quality branded fittings, while the weight of the bags is always light.

You can buy Malgrado bags from 3,000 rubles.

Advantages

  • Wide selection of bags of different styles;
  • Convenient bags with multiple pockets;
  • Branded reliable fittings;
  • Material of manufacture – genuine leather;
  • Wear-resistant lining.

Flaws

  • The price is at the limit of the budget category.

In second place in the ranking is a brand from Belarus, the well-known Suffle. The line of products is mainly made of genuine leather in different colors and shades. True, the variety of models is not as wide as that of the leader, but there are no indents in quality - careful tailoring, reliable fittings and thick lining. For men, the line includes classic briefcases with short handles, man purses, briefcases and men's clutches. The manufacturer annually replenishes the collection, but not as widely and often as many would like.

You can buy a bag for a man from Suffle for an average of 2,500 rubles.

Advantages

  • High quality cow leather for making;
  • Functional pockets in each product;
  • Basic models in the line of bags;
  • Optimal quality fittings;
  • Thick lining.

Flaws

  • The collection is relatively modest in range;
  • Small selection of colors.

In third place is the domestic leather goods brand Pellecon, whose men's bags are preferred by lovers of classic leather goods. For production, materials are used from the world's leading manufacturers of accessories and textiles, including eco-leather, and natural leather is predominantly of Russian finish. Local tailoring is the key to the relatively low cost of the entire Pellecon line of leather goods, including bags of various styles: travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, clutches, man purses and many others - almost all possible models.

A fly in the ointment is added by the not always high-quality stitching of pockets and fastening of accessories: users note weakening of the seams even with moderate loading of the bag. Fortunately, such cases are isolated and not systemic.

For a men's bag from Pellecon you will have to pay at least 2,000 rubles.

Advantages

  • Domestic leather products;
  • Wide range of styles;
  • Good cut and tailoring;
  • Imported fittings;
  • Affordable price, one of the lowest in the rating.

Flaws

  • Not always high-quality stitching;
  • The most affordable models are made of eco-leather.

Forte

The Forte brand belongs to Russian craftsmen from St. Petersburg. The company is aimed at mask market buyers, but the collection also includes premium leather goods. For men, Forte offers purses and clutches; the line is not rich in other models, mainly wallets and belts - you can choose inexpensive accessories for the bag, or make a good gift for a young man or a man of different social status.

Forte bags are made primarily from Russian leather, but the manufacturer does not always use high-quality material, so after several months of active wear, abrasions form on the products, even on natural material. For this, the brand receives only fourth place in the rating.

You can buy a Forte bag from 1265 rubles.

Advantages

  • Affordable prices;
  • Good tailoring;
  • Sturdy fittings.

Flaws

  • Small selection of styles;
  • Short-lived products - wear is observed after a few months.

Another foreigner in our ranking is the Italian Bolinni, a brand specializing in the production of budget leather goods. The range of men's bags made of natural and artificial leather is pleasantly surprising - the collection includes products of many styles in different colors, for students and bosses, for young people and representatives of the older generation.

Judging by the reviews, the owners have no complaints about the quality of the bags themselves and the accessories - everything is done with the pedantry of the Italians. However, with not the widest choice of models, the price of the products is not affordable for everyone, despite the budget orientation of the segment.

You can buy a Bolinni men's bag from 3,000 rubles.

Advantages

  • High quality leather goods;
  • High wear resistance of leather and lining;
  • Optimal choice of styles for different occasions and looks;
  • Highly presentable for the budget segment.

Flaws

  • Not the lowest price for inexpensive bags;
  • Incomplete range of styles in the line.

Closing the category of budget men's bags is the Russian brand Alliance, which, when creating products, focuses on the classic shapes of cases and briefcases, backpacks and large messenger bags that are in demand among business men. For production, genuine leather or its substitutes on a fabric basis are used, which can withstand intense wear, including at low temperatures and high humidity.

A special feature of the bags is a plastic frame inside, which maintains the shape of the product when worn. It also prevents the wear of individual “problem” parts of the casing.

The price of an Alliance bag is from 2,000 rubles.

Advantages

  • Classic lines of bags;
  • Reinforced internal frame;
  • Reliable fittings made of metal and plastic;
  • High-quality eco-leather and genuine leather, resistant to wear.

Flaws

  • A small range of styles.

The best men's bags in terms of price-quality ratio

The mid-price segment features brands that are more widely recognized compared to their budget counterparts. Manufacturers offer customers bags with an optimal price-quality ratio, which are chosen by people of different social statuses and positions, including managers and entrepreneurs.

Duffy

The collection of the Swedish brand Duffy includes briefcases, backpacks, travel and belt bags, and purses made of genuine leather. All products are distinguished by functionality - many convenient pockets with high-quality fittings and a thick lining with the brand logo distinguish Duffy bags, as well as combinations of fabrics and colors: linen, cotton, eco-leather, textured and smooth genuine leather.

Duffy collections have a solution for any men's wardrobe, from office style to a city walk.

The price of brand bags starts at 4,000 rubles.

Advantages

  • Wide selection of styles;
  • Sturdy fittings;
  • High-quality tailoring materials;
  • Unusual combinations of materials and textures.

Flaws

  • Not defined.

GUESS

The GUESS brand, along with clothing and accessories, produces bags for men made of genuine leather, its substitutes and textiles. The line includes laptop bags, briefcases, clutches and purses, backpacks, travel models and many others. From collection to collection, the manufacturer experiments with the texture of materials and their combinations and focuses on quality, so each line of the bag is stitched perfectly evenly, and metal locks and zippers last throughout the entire life of the product.

In addition to leather bags, the line includes backpacks and products made from synthetic materials impregnated from moisture penetration. The internal lining of all models without exception is dense, it does not fray at the seams.

The average price of GUESS bags is 10,000 rubles, the cheapest products start from 4,990 rubles, which is noticeably more expensive than the cost of products from the leading brand in the category.

Advantages

  • Bags for any occasion and status;
  • Experiments with the texture of materials;
  • Exceptional quality of tailoring and accessories;
  • High wear resistance of leather and synthetic textiles.

Flaws

  • The price is higher than the leader in the rating, but the quality is similar.

The American brand Samsonite presents bags made of synthetic fabrics based on dense nylon, polyurethane and polyester. The choice of fabrics is not random - products made from them are more practical and durable than leather, and various impregnations provide protection against water penetration into the bag.

As for styles, Samsonite designers are laconic: they offer mainly basic models of city backpacks, travel bags, shoulder and waist bags, and briefcases. The range is also not wide - traditional black and brown products, so mainly lovers of the classics and the presented range will be able to find something suitable for themselves.

Despite the absence of leather in the Samsonite collection, the cost of bags and backpacks is comparable in cost - from 6,000 rubles.

Advantages

  • Practical nylon on the outside and thick textile on the inside;
  • Careful stitching to prevent threads from coming out from under the stitching;
  • A good basic collection of bags and backpacks for every day.

Flaws

  • Minimum selection of models and colors;
  • Quite a price for nylon.

Polo

The Polo brand needs no introduction – it is known all over the world. One of the activities is the production of bags for men. The line was developed taking into account the interests of modern men living in the rhythm of the city: a variety of tablet bags, cross-body bags, business large and small models differ in the texture and tone of the skin, and valve design elements. The assortment does not shine with variety, this is one of the Polo concepts - the production of clothes and accessories in an urban style, which is fully consistent with the bags from the collection. They will appeal to students, managers and employees for everyday life and weekend walks.

Along with bags, the line of leather products includes document folders, purses, and purses. You can also choose the texture of the material: smooth leather or imitation python, crocodile, models differ in color from black, blue and gray to red.

The cost of Prada bags is considerable, the minimum price is 10,000 rubles. However, the investment in a wardrobe is significant - the bags fit almost any style of clothing, but even with frequent wear, the leather does not wear out, maintaining its original appearance. Looking ahead, we note: Prada is the most recognizable brand among those represented in the category, and not the most expensive.

Advantages

  • Exquisite perfect appearance;
  • Variety of textures and colors of leather;
  • Wide range of styles;
  • Recognizable brand.

Flaws

  • Not defined.

Montblanc bags are widely known among people with high status - the brand offers elegant products made of high-quality leather and textiles with branded embossing in the form of the top of Mont Blanc. Purses, briefcases and travel bags not only emphasize the high level of their owner, but also enhance it, because Montblanc is one of the most expensive leather goods in the world. The brand regularly improves its assortment taking into account fashion trends and customer wishes, so the collections become more presentable and elegant from release to release.

Montblanc leather goods are mainly used by businessmen, because the cost of one textile bag starts at 21,000 rubles, and one leather bag starts at 52,000 rubles.

Advantages

  • Presentable leather and textile products;
  • Highest quality and wear resistance;
  • Regular update of the collection.

Flaws

  • Very high price.

Connoisseurs of high fashion know firsthand about Salvatore Ferragamo, an Italian brand with Hollywood roots of the early 20th century, whose line, along with shoes and leather accessories, includes excellent bags for men who want to emphasize their high status.

The manufacturer uses specially tanned natural calf leather to sew bags, dyeing it and giving it different textures. The products do not wear out or deform; they can last for many years. The wide range includes different styles of bags, purses and clutches, even men's cosmetic bags.

What is typical for Salvatore Ferragamo is the absence of brand embossing or metal name patches in prominent places on the most expensive bags - they are hidden inside the product, on the sides or on the handles. Thus, the manufacturer focuses on quality rather than on manufacturer recognition. On relatively budget models, the inscription “Salvatore Ferragamo” is embossed or colored embroidery.

The cheapest SF bag costs 25,600 rubles, the most expensive – more than 100,000 rubles.

Advantages

  • Wide range of classic bags;
  • Long lasting color;
  • Genuine calf leather, resistant to wear;
  • Focus on quality without focusing on the brand.

Flaws

  • Lack of sports models;
  • High price.

When we made the first material, “The Best Italian Shoe Brands,” the reaction to it was mixed. Readers were divided into two camps - some admired and were already compiling a list of brands for pre-New Year shopping, others asked with undisguised irritation: “Where are Prada and Gucci?” The answer is - they are here, in our list of the best Italian bag brands. This doesn't mean Prada's velvet Mary Janes or Gucci's fur-lined slippers aren't the best. It’s just that these Italian houses have made a name for themselves on bags and accessories made of leather, which is what we want to emphasize. And to ensure a complete education in the field of Italian accessories, we have added other outstanding Italian brands from which you should look for the bag of your dreams.

Prada

The first store of the Prada brothers opened in Milan's Vittorio Emanuele gallery in 1913 - at that time the entire European aristocracy flocked there for bags made of innovative Saffiano leather, suitcases and chests. The Prada brand, as we know it now, was born much later - in the 70s, when Mario Prada's granddaughter, Miuccia, took the helm. And again, her leadership truly began with a status accessory - in the 80s, the designer introduced a line of bags and backpacks made of high-tech black nylon, almost indistinguishable from silk in appearance. What it has in common with modern Prada bags is the modest triangular logo, now known throughout the world. What to look for in the brand's current collections? On the elegant Paradigme model, Prada Cahier crossbody bag with guitar strap and clutches with 60s prints.

Fendi

The fur and accessories manufactory of Edoardo and Adele Fendi on Via del Plebisito in Rome was the first in 1925 - and over the following decades it became perhaps the most important place for native Romans, where one could always find the most luxurious fur coat or leather bag. Today, the House of Fendi produces every kind of clothing and accessories you can imagine. And the brand itself is associated with the name of Karl Lagerfeld, who took over as creative director in 1965. But the success of the Italian brand's iconic bags rests entirely with Silvia Venturini Fendi - it was she who created the iconic The Baguette in 1997, The Spy in 2005 and the B Bag in 2006. Probably the most popular Fendi model in the modern world is the Peekaboo with a seemingly open clasp.

Gucci

This is where the real Italian passions lie, in the history of the House of Gucci. Over more than 90 years of existence, everything that can and cannot be imagined has happened to the brand - triumphs, scandals, corporate espionage, fashion discoveries and even one contract murder. It's no surprise that Wong Kar-Wai is planning to make a film about how Maurizio Gucci was shot dead in 1995 on the orders of his ex-wife Patricia. But let's return to the triumphs - the innovation of the House of Gucci in the 30s was the invention of its own material, canvas with a print of woven diamonds. This fabric can still be seen on the brand’s bags, but in those days they were mainly used to make suitcases. In the 50s, Gucci became the first Italian brand, so popular in the States that even Jackie Kennedy wore their bag - in fact, with this model, Jackie, the era of it-bags of the House began. Gucci has always loved to shock - in the 90s the world was amazed by the collections of Tom Ford, and today by the visionary Alessandro Michele. It was this designer who gave Gucci bags their modern look - richly decorated with decor, slogans and all possible shades.

Valextra

Valextra, founded in Milan in 1937, is often called the “unicorn” of the accessories world – these bags are rare, magical in design and unchanged since their founding. Italian style cannot be called minimalist, and Valextra was a pioneer here - the founder of the brand, Giovanni Fontana, focused exclusively on the preciousness and exoticism of leather, without using any decorative elements. No logo, no fancy fittings, no embellishments. As a result, these bags and luggage, along with rare diamonds, ended up in the collections of the most sophisticated people - from Grace Kelly to Aristotle Onassis. Today the brand is designed by Peter Saville, a graphic artist who has worked on the covers of all the major British pop and rock groups of the last 20 years. And its influence cannot be ignored by the dynamics of colors and rare ornaments in Valextra bags - now they are not only valuable, but also artistic, completely in the spirit of the times.

Bottega Veneta

Notice the intricate weaving on all of Bottega Veneta's bags? It's called Intrecciato and thanks to it the brand started talking about it all over the world. Michel Tadei and Renzo Zengiaro founded Bottega Veneta in 1966 in Vicenza, a town between Verona and Venice. Translated from Italian, the name of the House can be translated as “Venetian Manufactory” - and indeed, the first years of its life, Bottega was more of a workshop where connoisseurs of beauty turned to for unique wicker bags and leather accessories. In the 2000s, the Italian House received a second life - with the arrival of designer Giles Deacon and stylist Katie Grand, the brand was first talked about as a trendsetter. Today, all the brand’s collections are created by the German Thomas Mayer, who, just like the creators of Bottega Veneta, appreciates the invention of Intrecciato - this technique still adorns all the House’s accessories.

Zanellato

Founded in 1976, the Zanellato brand in its native Italy is well known and sincerely loved - you must admit, not every bag ends up on a state postage stamp, and especially not twice. The Postina model, soft, made of textured leather and with two locks, one of which is a trompe l’oeil, was created “based on” the traditional bag of Italian postmen of the mid-century. This accessory even has its own logo - a characteristic crossbar, also one of the symbols of the 50s. They say Postina is the most counterfeited bag in Italy. You can distinguish the original from the fake thanks to the special engraving on one of the rivets. But you shouldn’t focus exclusively on this Zanellato model either - the rest of the brand’s bags are no less comfortable, roomy and beautiful. And if you are looking for proof, go to the brand’s first boutique in Russia in Crocus City Mall.

Paula Cademartori

Paula Cademartori may have been born in Brazil, but she launched her first line of bags in Italy, where she studied accessory design. After quitting her job at Versace, Paula launched her own brand at the age of 26 - and she started really small and even posed as her own assistant in order to impress buyers. Paula Cademartori is one of those brands that has become popular thanks to the Internet and street style: the bright graphic design of its bags was quickly appreciated by stylists and fashion editors, and most importantly, photographers. Today, such a madness of ornaments and shades is becoming a thing of the past. But we believe that a modern girl should still have one Cademartori bag in her wardrobe.

Furla

Looking at the energetic design of Furla bags, you would never guess that the history of this brand goes back 90 years. Aldo Furlanetto, the creator of the brand, went through all the thorns before he began selling the bags for which Furla is known today - he sold inexpensive leather goods and handbags from other brands in his boutique in Bologna of the same name. However, the Furla we know and love appeared in the 70s - it was then that Aldo presented the public with a full-fledged collection of bags. Throughout its history, Furla has had several hits - these are the elegant Linda models, the roomy Capriccio, the funny and innovative Candy, made, in particular, from transparent plastic. But our all-time favorite is the compact Metropolis bag, always created with imagination.

Sara Battaglia

Designer Sarah Battaglia sewed her first bag at the age of 6, stealing a piece of fabric for a dress from her mother, a famous Italian sculptor. Then the most interesting thing is that the girl managed to sell this bag to her teacher. It's no surprise that Sarah's signature brand has achieved such success - and it's not only because of her commercial spirit, but also because of the artistic view of the world that she shares with her sister Giovanna Battaglia. The calling cards of the Sara Battaglia brand are fringe, kaleidoscopic colors and bow-shaped accessories on clutches. Would you say that you saw all this at Salvatore Ferragamo? Of course, because today Sarah is creating a capsule line for the House

Coccinelle

The Parma region of Italy is known throughout the world for its culinary inventions - from Parmesan to meat products. But in 1978, the Mazzieri family broke the mold and began producing bags. Coccinelle is translated from Italian as ladybug, and the colors of the brand’s accessories are more reminiscent of exotic plants - there is light green, pale blue, fuchsia, and pomegranate. At the same time, the shapes of the bags are the most laconic and fit neatly into modern times - pay attention to the trapezoidal model B14 and the Clessidra cross-body bag with a figured flap.

Pugnetti Parma

The Pugnetti Parma brand is very young - designer Filippo Pugnetti founded it in 2015. But don’t let age deceive you - Pugnetti uses ancient techniques known only to the craftsmen at the Parma manufactory, which, by the way, has existed since the end of the 17th century. Processing and dyeing leather, combining cuts and designing - all these stages of creating Pugnetti Parma bags are almost no different from the old ones, those that were used in the traditions of the Renaissance. What makes these models modern, as always, is the details - Pugnetti bags are recognizable due to the “tie” decor on the clasps and clasp.

Elena Ghisellini

Even if you have never heard the name Elena Ghisellini, then you have definitely seen the results of her work - for nine years, this native of Genoa created bags for the Houses of Givenchy, Emilio Pucci and Roberto Cavalli. In 2014, Elena decided to reveal her name to the world and created her own brand. Elena Ghisellini bags are instantly recognizable thanks to their rainbow patchwork, dark humor, sensual shapes and exceptional quality leather.

Giancarlo Petriglia

Designer Giancarlo Petriglia managed to work at Trussardi, collaborate with Nicolas Ghesquière and architect Vincent Darré, known for his surreal buildings and interiors. Perhaps it was Darre’s influence that pushed Giancarlo to create a signature brand in 2011 - the designer’s bags are distinguished by the same unbridled imagination. From the brand symbol, the two griffins on the clasp, to the figurative decoration, everything in the Giancarlo Petriglia collections is delightful. The quality is also not far behind - accessories are created in an old manufactory in Palermo, but using modern technologies, for example, eco-glue.
