Primer for the face - features, properties, types, application rules. How to prepare a makeup base with your own hands: video Recipe for homemade face primer

The main task of high-quality facial cosmetics is to lie beautifully and smoothly on the skin, and also to stay on it for a long time without smudging or smearing. A product called a primer does an excellent job of this, acting as a makeup base and giving the skin a radiant, healthy look.

Primer - what is it for?

Conventional creams that help even out the complexion and give it a slight glow clog pores, which leads to serious skin problems. Therefore, light and long-lasting primers have become a real godsend for fashionistas.

Purpose: to thoroughly prepare the skin for the application of powder or foundation, as well as to protect the surface of the epidermis from the penetration of contaminants.

A high quality primer does not spread throughout the day, ensures the absence of roughness on the skin, gives radiance and smoothness. Many formulations help hide fine wrinkles and eliminate flaking. The effect of use is noticeable almost immediately.

A few minutes after application, the relief is leveled and the skin is ready for further processing.

How to choose primers: types and features

Almost every manufacturer produces several types for their intended purpose: for the face, eyelashes and eyebrows, lips, eyelids. Release forms: thick cream, gel, air fluid, spray, oil, serum.

Choose according to complexion and skin type

It all depends on the type of skin, for example, for oily skin it is recommended to use a fluid or spray, and for dry skin it is recommended to use a rich cream.

The tool is selected based on the objectives:

  • Moisturizing. Great for dry skin, normalizes moisture levels, gives a natural glow.
  • Mattifying. It has a leveling effect and copes with unpleasant oily shine on the skin.
  • With reflective particles. Gives the face a soft natural glow and masks minor imperfections.
  • Corrective. Fills wrinkles and scars, hides redness and pimples.

The classic version of the primer has no color, but you can find more advanced formulations that allow you to solve several problems at the same time.

Depending on the shade, primers are divided into:

  • yellow or pink, hiding dark circles under the eyes;
  • lilac/violet, eliminating the “grayness” of the skin;
  • orange, which relieves bruises;
  • white or blue, brightening the face;
  • green, allowing you to cover up inflammation and redness.

When choosing a makeup base, don’t worry about it being colored. After application, the shades will not be noticeable, and the skin will take on a healthy, natural look.

Rules for using the primer

Cosmetologists advise taking a responsible approach to choosing and applying makeup base. A solid base should be chosen when there are “pits” or scars on the face.

Gels are suitable for those with porous skin, and cream is ideal for masking redness and freckles.

Step-by-step instruction

The base should be applied only to moisturized skin to avoid noticeable peeling. In addition, you should thoroughly cleanse the pores, paying attention to the chin, forehead, nose and cheeks.

How to apply primer correctly

Experts recommend using special sponges or porous pads to apply primer.

Step-by-step application of primer:

  • Treat your skin with a cleansing lotion or use micellar water.
  • Apply the product using a slightly dampened sponge. You need to move from the eyes towards the cheeks. The composition should be gently massaged into the skin rather than rubbing it.
  • Blend the product over the wings of the nose, chin and forehead.
  • Areas of redness should be spot-treated with a green product. Circles under the eyes are removed using pink or yellow tones.
  • Wait a few minutes before applying foundation to allow the product to absorb.

In some cases, primer can replace foundation, but this option is suitable for those with dry skin with unnoticeable pores.

It contains zinc oxide and kaolin, which has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Color palette

So, we have already found out what a face primer is for. Now it’s worth considering his palette. In the traditional version, it is transparent and has no color of its own. Manufacturers, in their desire to unify cosmetic products, provide them with several functions at the same time. So, today you can find makeup bases that have a certain color. This is done with a specific purpose - to disguise all kinds of skin imperfections. Now let's find out how to choose the product of the required tone.

Selection by skin type

Dry skin needs constant hydration. Therefore, choose a product that contains moisturizing agents. A facial primer (you will find out which brand of cosmetics to choose in the article below) will easily mask peeling and small wrinkles and make the skin uniform. However, silicone-based foundations are not suitable for dry skin.

Normal skin requires minor correction, therefore a creamy light primer is perfect for it. It should be applied in one layer in order to create a light barrier between the environment and the skin.

Sensitive skin is prone to irritation from the use of cosmetics. Therefore, use a water-based product. For sensitive skin, silicone primers are strictly contraindicated.

Combination and oily skin needs a product with a mattifying effect. It can even out skin texture and hide enlarged pores. Oil production is normalized by a product containing silicone.

How to use face primer?

To achieve the maximum effect, you need not only to choose the texture and color correctly, but also not to make mistakes when applying the product. It should be noted that there are separate primers for eyelashes, eyelids and lips that take into account the characteristics of these areas of the skin. Let's look at the instructions for applying this product:

  1. It is applied exclusively to damp skin. Take a light cream. Wait after application until it is completely absorbed.
  2. Take a slightly damp sponge. Apply the primer to the face, moving towards the cheeks from the eyes, then the chin and forehead. The movements should be light, but rubbing. In this case, the green tint is applied strictly to the points of redness.
  3. Look at the result, re-work the T-zone if necessary.
  4. Let the primer soak in. Next, start applying foundation.

Primer is a cosmetic product that is applied under foundation. Its main functions are to fix makeup, protect the skin from external influences and even out skin tone. Until recently, facial primer was rarely found outside the cosmetic bags of professional makeup artists. But today it is also appreciated by “ordinary” beautyholics. We have collected everything you need to know about this product in one material.

What is a face primer for?

Facial primer plays an important role in creating a flawless make-up and takes on a whole range of important functions.

  • Primer is a base for foundation. The components contained in its composition help to significantly extend the durability of makeup.
  • The product evens out the texture of the skin, making it smoother, and also often helps to hide minor imperfections - for example, enlarged pores. Thanks to this, the foundation is distributed in a more even layer.

  • Many primers work well to even out the tone. Of course, they cannot replace a “full-fledged” foundation, but they can cope quite successfully with light redness.
  • Some primers contain components that benefit the skin: they care for it, moisturize it and protect it from the negative effects of the sun.

Understanding why you need a face primer and what functions it performs, you can simply decide how necessary its use is specifically for you. It will be especially useful if your makeup is usually not long-lasting, or if your skin is oily or prone to redness.

Types of face primers

There are several types of primers; you should choose “yours” depending on the purpose of use and skin condition. Let's understand the issue.

Primer textures

Silicone face primer

If you've ever wondered what a clear face primer is for, it's a silicone-based primer. Silicone face primers solve one of the most important tasks - even out the skin texture. This primer will create an even base for applying makeup: it will narrow enlarged pores and smooth out other unevenness. As a rule, silicone primers have a gel texture, due to which they are practically not felt on the skin. Ideal for oily and aging skin, but contraindicated for problem skin.

Cream primers are universal and suitable for almost any skin type. Their main property - high-quality moisturizing - makes the application of tone more comfortable and easy. As a bonus - fresh and beautiful skin.

Liquid face primer (lotion)

A product with a light texture, water-based – primer-lotion. One of its main advantages is weightlessness. You won't feel the primer on your skin, but it will perform a number of important functions. Among them are express hydration (an excellent option if you have to do makeup on the run) and tone evening. Provided that the product does not contain oils, a primer with this texture is suitable for those with oily and combination skin.

Primer oil for face

Primer oil for the face has several positive properties. Oils transform the skin: it becomes more elastic, radiant, and fine wrinkles are smoothed out. Oils also make foundation application more comfortable. Primer oil is an optimal and multifunctional product that combines the properties of decorative and skincare cosmetics.

Purpose of use

Mattifying face primer

Oily shine on the skin can ruin even the most perfect makeup. To prevent such situations from arising, they came up with a mattifying primer. The main function of this product is to absorb sebaceous secretions from the skin without polluting the pores. Most often, mattifying primers contain mineral particles.

Green face primer (corrective)

This primer is applied to individual areas of the skin. A corrective primer can remove redness, minor blemishes and other imperfections. Green pigment works great when you need to hide uneven skin tone. In terms of purpose of use and consistency, it is more reminiscent not of a base, but of a corrector or concealer.

How to choose a face primer?

The best face primers, according to makeup artists, are the ones that suit your skin type. Otherwise, the primer will not only not perform its basic functions, but may also create a number of other problems. Also, the choice of this product depends on the condition of your skin at the moment: the right product will help improve it.

Primer for oily skin

  • The main purpose of a facial primer for oily skin is to make pores less noticeable while inhibiting sebum production. Mineral primers do an excellent job of this: mineral particles in the composition mattify the skin and eliminate oily shine.
  • Minerals perform another function - they “soothe” the skin and help neutralize redness and irritation.
  • For oily skin, a silicone primer is also suitable - but only if the skin is in good condition and has no visible imperfections.
  • When choosing “your” product, it is very important to pay attention to the composition: it should not contain mineral oils.

Dry skin tends to be especially sensitive to cosmetics. Pay attention to primers with a cream or liquid base. The main task of the product in this case is to moisturize the skin before makeup to ensure a more even application of the foundation. Some products contain glycolic or salicylic acid - components that help moisturize and cleanse.

Primer for combination skin

Typically, the same products are suitable for combination skin as for oily skin - the only difference is that the base is applied to certain areas of the skin. Mineral primers are perfect because they will rid the T-zone of excess sebum, redness and minor imperfections. If the skin is in good condition, a silicone-based primer can be applied to the entire face.

Primer for aging facial skin

NYX Professional Makeup Studio Perfect Primer © nyxcosmetic.ru

The main purpose of a primer for aging skin is to fill in the wrinkles that inevitably appear on the face as we age. Silicone primers will be effective for this purpose - and all thanks to their ability to even out skin texture. The product must contain moisturizing components (since aging skin is often prone to dryness). Antioxidants will also benefit. But it is better to avoid shining particles in the composition.

How to use face primer?

You're probably thinking, "What's so hard about this?" – and they turned out to be right. Indeed, applying a primer is the simplest procedure, when performing it, however, it is worth considering some details. We'll tell you how to apply primer to your face at home. Follow the step-by-step photo instructions.

Cleanse and moisturize skin before application. Indeed, many primers already contain moisturizing components, but they cannot replace full hydration. Therefore, do not forget to carry out your usual beauty rituals before application.

The method of application depends on the texture of the product: for example, a silicone primer-gel can be applied locally to some areas of the skin, and a primer-lotion can be distributed over the entire facial skin.

The easiest way to apply primer is with your fingers: move from the middle of the face to the edges with gentle movements, distributing the product evenly.

Remember that not every primer is suitable for problem areas of the skin. Which face primer is best to choose in this case? It is worth paying attention to universal products or using several depending on the current condition of your skin.

You can learn more about how to apply primer from the article and from our video tutorial.

What can you replace face primer with?

There are few alternatives to this remedy - but they still exist. What can you use instead of face primer?

BB cream is positioned as a universal product that can also serve as a makeup base. It has many advantages: it moisturizes, nourishes, and evens out the tone. But if you are going to apply foundation on top, use BB cream in a small amount (we wrote more about BB cream).

After shave balm

Oddly enough, it can replace the primer in an SOS situation. It mattifies the skin, evens it out - and makeup lasts much longer. But this life hack should only be used as a last resort; after-shave balm, of course, is not suitable for daily use as a primer.

Moisturizing cream

It, as we have already written, must be applied in any case - but in a situation where there is no primer at hand, it becomes a real salvation. Moisturizing cream will prepare the skin for applying foundation, making it softer and more even.

These products are a suitable substitute when primer is not available, but it is not recommended to use them as a base on an ongoing basis.

Rating of the best face primers (according to the editors)

We have prepared the top 6 primers that, in our opinion, really get the job done.

    Baby Skin, Maybelline

    © maybelline.com.ru

If you've never used a primer and don't know where to start, we recommend this product. Baby Skin hides skin unevenness and enlarged pores. This primer is very easy to apply: thanks to its weightless gel texture, it is practically not felt on the skin.

Media personalities with seemingly perfect skin appear every day on the pages of gossip columns. And most girls wonder: how, how can you maintain fresh skin without a single pimple or wrinkle? After all, even in 25-year-olds, she doesn’t shine like in her youth, and facial wrinkles become noticeable when she smiles... But Julia Roberts looks dazzling even at 50. In fact, there is no such thing as perfect ageless skin, there are just competent makeup artists who know how to hide imperfections - everything! And the cosmetic market is constantly updated with the latest products that can help you personally achieve a radiant complexion. One of them is a primer. What kind of “beast” this is, how to match it to your skin type and how to use a face primer, you will find out in the article.

Same as foundation?

There is an opinion that the hero of our discussion has absolutely no differences from the foundation. Accordingly, the question arises: haven’t marketers convinced us that without a primer we can’t get high-quality makeup, and is it really necessary?

Let's say right away that primer and foundation are two different animals, and the confusion arose due to discrepancies in the translation of the name into Russian. Both of them have the words “Base” and “Foundation” on the packaging, which mean base, basis. And a product with this designation on the packaging can both tint and correct. Therefore, in addition to the above words, look for the English “primer” on the packaging, then you definitely won’t go wrong.

They also have different purposes: a primer (in Russian, a base for makeup) aims to correct the skin, fill in unevenness, and protect against cold and ultraviolet radiation. It evens out the texture of the epidermis, hides acne marks, and even makes wrinkles invisible! While the foundation is applied on top of it and just evens out the skin tone.

Choosing a super product for your skin type

In order for your skin to become smooth and your cosmetics to lay down evenly and not run, you need to know how to use a facial primer, because it has many varieties and application features. It should also meet your goals. Different types cope with the functions:

  • Mattifies- solution to the eternal problems of oily and combination skin.
  • Corrects tone- those who can “boast” of a sallow complexion, pink marks from pimples or dark circles under the eyes, choose a colored primer.
  • Makes the skin glow- reflective particles in the composition can add shimmer and enhance the brightness of makeup. It is best used for a party where a lot of electric light is expected.

But still, skin type is a decisive factor for choosing a primer:

  • Silicone - lays down in an even layer, filling the pores. Suitable for girls with oily and normal skin types. They cover the entire face or individual areas.
  • Mattifying - also chosen by owners of oily dermis. But it is also suitable for those who simply suffer from smudged makeup due to high temperatures. It hides redness and acne.
  • Mineral - its green tone eliminates various redness. It is applied only to problem areas of red color - for example, an unhealed pimple, a mark from it, irritation.
  • Moisturizing - applied to the entire face and makes wrinkles and unevenness invisible. Ideal for mature skin.
  • Reflective - an option for dry dermis. It will moisturize dehydrated skin and give it a healthy glow.
  • Pudding primer with such a tasty designation appeared on the market not so long ago. It looks like powder and copes well with oily shine, eliminates imperfections, and also has an anti-inflammatory effect. So far it comes in two colors: pink is suitable for those with yellow skin tones, and green is for those with reddish skin tones.

A creamy or powdery consistency of a primer is an immutable rule for oily skin, because if you spread it with a liquid product, then all the decorative cosmetics will “flow” unsightly after a short period of time.
You might be surprised when you suddenly squeeze out something like wasabi from the primer tube. So - these are not the tricks of the Japanese yakuza. Just makeup base comes in different colors:

  1. Green, as we already mentioned, hides redness.
  2. Yellow- evens out tone and disguises dark marks under the eyes.
  3. Purple, blue- for girls with an unhealthy sallow complexion.
  4. Transparent- intended for rare lucky women who have nothing to hide.

Don't be afraid that if you buy a colored primer, you will end up with multi-colored makeup. The product is applied in a thin layer, and, in addition to it, foundation, blush, concealer will be applied to the skin... This “layer cake” will hide the already invisible purple primer!

The tool is also important

Experts warn that you should not apply foundation with your fingers. It’s better to follow the example of makeup artists and purchase a concealer brush with bristles made from natural materials. She is able to use a minimum of product because she applies a very thin layer. But good brushes cost a lot; a cosmetic sponge will do instead.

The tool that will be chosen for application must be thoroughly cleaned after each make-up ritual, since bacteria, mites and other enemies of healthy skin can multiply on dirty ones. For the same reason, use it strictly on yourself.

Application rules

Many beauties are familiar with the situation when foundation, instead of hiding skin imperfections, emphasizes them. The redness does not disappear anywhere, only the area in its place becomes darker. And the foundation simply pulls out previously invisible peelings! And makeup rarely survives in its original form longer than midday. To avoid all this, we learn how to apply primer.

The correct algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • The skin needs to be pre-moisturized. But you don’t need to wash your face, just spread your face with a non-greasy cream for your skin type and wait for it to be absorbed. After this, the primer comes into play. By the way, it will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day.
  • Squeeze a little onto your palm and wait a bit for it to warm up. Then put a little bit on a brush or moistened sponge and “rub” it in with patting movements, moving from the center of the face. Its effect is noticeable immediately: stroke the skin with your fingertips and you will be surprised how smooth it has become, instantly filled in wrinkles, enlarged pores, and smoothed out all the unevenness.

  • If you want to remove imperfections from sight, then you don’t need to spend the base on your entire face, just treat the desired areas.
  • Did you blend the product well? Make sure once again that you apply it evenly to the skin and there is no “bare” area left somewhere on the cheekbone. If you want to be on the safe side, treat the T-zone one more time.
  • Give it a few minutes to absorb and proceed to the rest of the make-up stages that are familiar to you.

Such a useful thing as a primer will radically change your attitude towards makeup. If you previously didn’t want to wear makeup, thinking that you would have to touch up your makeup all day long, now this worry disappears! A minimum of knowledge about the features of choice, how to use it correctly, plus a high-quality face primer will make the colors rich and the skin perfectly smooth and radiant.

What is a facial primer and why is it needed?

Facial primer is a product that is applied to prepare the skin for makeup. The primer performs a number of functions.

  • Silicone primers. The basis, as you might guess, is silicones. The products do an excellent job of filling in uneven skin texture. However, they are not suitable for everyone. By hiding enlarged pores, such primers clog them, so those with problem skin are better off choosing other products.
  • Cream primer is gentle, rich in moisturizing ingredients. It softens the skin and thereby prepares it for makeup. This base is considered universal.
  • Primer in lotion format is a very light texture product that is ideal for oily skin if it does not contain oils. Bases from this category are especially good because they act in express mode: they are absorbed in a matter of seconds and quickly even out the tone.
  • Some reduce shine and mattify the skin (for example, De-Slick Complexion Primer from Urban Decay).
  • Others have a blur effect, which seems to retouch the skin, making imperfections invisible (this is how Touche Éclat Blur Perfector Baume-Poudre Flouteur from Yves Saint Laurent Beauté works with the texture of powder, which after application becomes a balm).
  • For normal skin, a cream primer with smoothing properties is suitable; for oily skin, a light fluid primer that prevents the appearance of a greasy shine.

In addition to skin type, you need to take into account its current condition.

  • Uneven tone, enlarged pores, dryness - these and many other shortcomings can be corrected with a properly selected primer.

Some people think that buying a primer is a waste of money, while others cannot apply makeup properly when this product is not at hand. What do primers actually do, is it possible to do without them, and which ones should you pay attention to?

What is it for?

Many people confuse primer with regular face cream. But these are two completely different products. A primer, like a cream, may have caring properties (moisturizing, nourishing, rejuvenating, anti-inflammatory), but its main effect is to prepare the skin for makeup. With its help, problem areas are hidden, tone is evened out, imperfections are eliminated, skin is mattified, pores are narrowed and even wrinkles are filled. Thanks to a good primer, makeup does not run or crease throughout the day, even if you get caught in the rain or it is unbearably hot outside or indoors. However, if you choose the wrong foundation or use it incorrectly, it will roll off, and the cosmetics will lie in pieces, unevenly. In fact, you only need a very small amount of primer; it should cover the skin with a thin, weightless layer. It is recommended to shade the product not with your fingertips, but with a dense brush with thick bristles, then no transitions will definitely be noticeable on the skin.

Just like face correctors, primers are available in different colors. For example, yellow and pink are great for hiding dark circles under the eyes; lilac and violet refresh the complexion, eliminating sallowness and signs of fatigue; orange can cover up bruises; white and blue - to whiten freckles, age spots and simply lighten the skin; green primers are designed for problem skin - they help mask inflammation, irritation and redness.

Depending on the consistency of the primer, it will also have its own effect and be intended for different skin textures. A solid base perfectly hides acne, scars, potholes and scars. Gel products work well to tighten pores, so they are ideal for those with porous skin. The primer in the form of a thick cream ideally masks redness, pigmentation and freckles. Liquid foundations do not eliminate imperfections, but they give the skin a matte appearance and even out the tone. Having several primers in your makeup bag, like a professional makeup artist, you can create the perfect makeup and cope with all skin imperfections.

Facial primer - what is it?

The term “primer” refers to a product that is the basis for decorative cosmetics. On sale it is found in different consistencies - both liquid and creamy.

It is the primer that can mask those skin problems that a regular foundation cannot cope with. These are not only acne, redness, but even wrinkles. The special structure of the product under discussion allows the active substances from its composition to fill the unevenness of the skin and make them invisible.

What is it for?

First of all, you need to figure out what the primer is for. As noted above, it is primarily used to mask skin imperfections. With this product, your face becomes truly perfect. Unlike tone and powder, the primer is invisible to others and does not flow in the heat. From the outside, it seems that the girl has naturally perfect skin.

What else is a primer needed for:

  • The product cares for the skin - moisturizes and nourishes. Often it immediately replaces both day and night creams.
  • This makeup base protects your face from sun rays. Additionally, you will not need to use creams with a UV filter.
  • The product provides makeup with ideal durability. It will remain perfect until the evening.

It should be noted that the primer does not clog pores (unlike foundation). On the contrary, this product regulates the activity of the sebaceous glands, removing excess shine. With a primer, contouring becomes especially easy. After all, it is much easier to darken and lighten even, monochromatic skin in the desired areas.

Types of makeup base

In general, the primer is a universal cosmetic product. But you can still find several types of it on sale. Each of them performs specific tasks.

  1. Corrective primer. This is the most popular option among modern customers. Conceals skin imperfections. Makes the skin texture more even, filling wrinkles and hiding other imperfections.
  2. Mattifying primer. Ideal for oily skin. It also evens out the texture of the face, but also reduces oiliness. The mattifying properties of the product help prevent unsightly shine on the surface of the skin.
  3. Giving shine. This type of primer always contains reflective particles. The latter “know how” to scatter light. The result is a soft, attractive skin glow.
  4. Moisturizing primer. An excellent product option for dry and mature skin. Not only hides imperfections, but also gives a subtle glow and thoroughly moisturizes.

The primer is also available in various colors. So, green is chosen to mask rashes, redness and all kinds of skin irregularities. Yellow makes dark circles under the eyes invisible and evens out skin color. Purple gives the face a natural, attractive shade. Orange not only evens out the tone, but also does a great job of disguising bruises.

How to use it correctly?

In order to achieve the maximum positive effect when using a primer, you need not only to choose the right color, but also to learn how to apply it correctly. It must be remembered that the universal product is applied directly to the face - cheekbones, cheeks, chin, area around the eyes, forehead and other areas. And, for example, there are separate primers for lips and eyelids.

The makeup base is applied according to the following scheme:

  1. First, the facial skin is cleansed. It is advisable to use a light moisturizer for it. You can start working with the primer only after the first product has been completely absorbed.
  2. A small amount of “concealer” is applied to the sponge. It should turn out slightly damp. Next, the product is distributed with light movements over the entire face, moving the sponge from the eyes to the cheekbones and cheeks, from the nose to the chin and forehead. The primer should be lightly rubbed into the skin. Only the green product is not applied to the entire face, but pointwise to problem areas.
  3. After 2-3 minutes, you can evaluate the result of applying the base and re-treat the T-zone. This is especially true for those with oily skin.

To make your task easier, you should buy a special concealer brush. This will allow you to apply the base as evenly as possible. When working in the eye area, apply primer only to the upper eyelid. Or use a special product for this area.

Special primers for lips and eyelashes are applied to the corresponding areas in a very thin layer. To make your makeup look natural and neat, it is better to choose transparent options.

Possible errors during application

Using the primer is quite simple.

But even under such conditions, girls make mistakes that make their makeup on such a base look unnatural and untidy:

  • Do not try to rub the product into the skin too much or drive it into the skin. Otherwise, your face tone will turn out uneven.
  • Do not apply foundation to dry skin or to freshly applied moisturizer.
  • If you use too much primer, you can get a completely unpredictable complexion. In addition, the tone will be too “heavy”.

You should always check the expiration date of the product in question before purchasing. An expired primer should never be used on the face.

What can replace the product?

If it is not possible to buy a ready-made good primer, then you can replace it with other options with a similar effect. For example, buy green tea powder. This product is great for treating pimples and blackheads.

For oily skin, you can choose any powder based on corn starch or clay. It will have an anti-inflammatory effect and eliminate shine.

For mature skin, purchase powder based on silk. It gives the face a beautiful glow and fights inflammation.

The best face primers

In the resulting list, the places were distributed as follows:

  1. The first place was taken by bases from MAS. They are suitable not only for “amateur”, but even for professional makeup. The products give the skin a light natural glow. It perfectly masks almost any imperfections.
  2. Remedy from "MaxFactor". This is a silicone primer with a very light texture that protects the skin well from sun rays. Easy and quick to apply, significantly extends the life of makeup. Contains sunscreen components and light texture.
  3. Foundation from L'Oreal. A gel product that perfectly moisturizes the skin for 8 hours. Gives it shine and visually smoothes it. Can be used not only as a base, but also as an independent concealer.
  4. Primers from Smashbox. The manufacturer's assortment includes many options for such products. Each of them performs one main task. For example, it masks acne or fills wrinkles. Any of them degreases the surface of the skin.

What is a primer, its advantages and disadvantages

Primer is another name for makeup base. It is applied to a clean face or moisturized with foundation cream. By the way, these 2 concepts are often confused. The base for makeup can protect the skin, hide some imperfections, affecting the color or composition, it tightly fixes the cosmetics on the face. And foundation evens out skin tone. Although many people say that you can get by with just a makeup base, this is not true. Also, do not confuse the base with concealers and correctors.

The actions of a primer depend primarily on its type and composition, and on belonging to a certain skin type. But there are also general properties due to which such a product generally exists. First of all, the makeup base evens out the face and fills small pores. This allows the cosmetics to lie flat and create an even tone. The foundation can disguise small pimples, scars, scars and other defects on the face.

The second function is protective. The primer is able to protect the skin from moisture loss and the effects of the internal environment and decorative cosmetics. It itself does not clog pores, and does not allow foundation, blush and powder to do so. Some foundations have the function of protecting against solar radiation; they protect the skin from exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

Makeup base is not used every day; after all, it is an additional cosmetic, and it is also not used when you are not using foundation. You can’t do without it at an important event, or when you need your makeup to last a long time. The foundation greatly prolongs his life. This effect is achieved due to the fact that most base products have a sticky structure, and decorative makeup seems to stick.

Why else do you need a primer? Some bases are filled with useful components, vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and extracts from beneficial plants. For example, jasmine, lavender or rose relieve irritation, remove redness and fill the product with an excellent aroma. Aloe and green tea have an anti-inflammatory effect, jojoba softens and makes the skin soft.

There are practically no contraindications, however, if you are prone to allergic reactions or have a sensitive skin type, it is better to first consult with a specialist, or ask for advice from a consultant at the store where you buy cosmetics.

I think you are convinced that primers can help solve many problems. Is it possible to replace them and with what? I believe that there is no point in replacing them, they are specially designed and have all the necessary functions. But, nevertheless, instead of primers, moisturizers are used, and recently Nivea men's aftershave balm has become very popular on the Internet.

How to choose a primer, its types

Primers are divided into several classifications, based on skin type, composition, color, effect, and so on. There are primers for specific areas of the facial skin: for the entire face, lips, eyes and even eyelashes. The skin in these areas is different, so do not neglect the first classification.

  • Silicone products penetrate the pores and fill them, they even out the face, making it smooth and toned. The base is suitable for those with oily and normal skin.
  • Mineral primer enhances the effect of other mineral cosmetics, it nourishes the skin and fights inflammation. More often it is produced in the form of powder. If the shade of the product is green, it is recommended to apply it only to problem areas (redness).
  • A reflective base is mainly used to create an evening look. It contains reflective particles that create the effect of radiant skin from the inside, the face turns out light, expressive and bright. Cool shades are suitable for ladies with fair skin, and warm shades for those with dark skin.

Primers are separated by consistency. The liquid product is suitable for normal skin, it will moisturize it, make it matte and protect it. The structure of the cream will help hide minor defects in appearance. The gel is suitable for very oily skin. A pencil can hide gross imperfections. And the powder (pudding primer) removes greasy shine, dries, makes the skin smooth and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

A powerful guide when choosing a primer will be your skin type:

  • For the normal type, choose cream products; it does not require excessive correction. Cream bases are applied in a thin layer for protection.
  • For dry skin, a product with a moisturizing effect is suitable; it will help even it out, moisturize it, and eliminate flaking.
  • For oily types, as well as combination ones, mattifying compositions are well suited; they can even out the skin and hide enlarged pores. Silicone based bases are excellent.
  • A water-based base is suitable for sensitive skin. Silicone primers should be avoided.

It may also seem surprising to you that in addition to beige and brownish colors, green, pink, yellow or bluish tones appear in the palette of some products. What are they needed for?

  • Pink - makes a pale face lively and mischievous.
  • Blue – hides unhealthy yellowness.
  • Green – masks pimples and other red inflammations.
  • Yellow and orange - hides bruises.
  • Golden – gives a tanning effect.

First, you should clean your face well and apply moisturizer. This is a mandatory procedure, although some makeup bases are quite capable of replacing it. How to apply primer to your face?

Wait until the moisturizer is absorbed. Then remove any excess and only then proceed with applying the foundation. Squeeze the primer onto the back of your hand, you need it to warm up a little, so it will fit better. There is no need to rub it into your face with all your might; light patting and rubbing movements along the massage lines are enough.

Allow the primer to dry a little before applying the face tone. If you did everything correctly, you will notice that the tone is distributed evenly. And when wearing concealers, there will be no sharp transitions and boundaries.

The primer is able to even out the tone of the face and make its relief even. It will easily hide the flaws of your appearance. Be sure to use this product at important events; in the photo you will look incomparable.

Are you familiar with the situation when, by the middle of the day, the foundation “floats”, wears off, and the shadows roll off? You don't want to put up with this state of affairs? Then read on to learn how to make a quality one with your own hands. Using this product, you will always look fresh and flawless.

A good, high-quality makeup base is not cheap, and more affordable budget options contain silicone and other not entirely healthy additives that only clog our pores and worsen the condition of our skin. As a result, using a cheap makeup base, you risk encountering the initial stage of acne in a couple of months.

What to do if you don’t have money for an expensive product, but you don’t want to use cheap and low-quality ones? There is a way out - you need to prepare the makeup base yourself. At the same time, the cost of the home remedy is very pleasing: all the necessary ingredients for such a mixture (you can use it for about a month), we only need about 50 rubles!

To prepare your own homemade makeup base:

Prepare the oil component of the cream. You need to melt half a teaspoon of shea butter and a third of a teaspoon of emulsion wax in a water bath. It will help make a homogeneous mixture of oils and water.
Do not add it in excess - there should be very little wax, no more than 10% of the total mass of the resulting cream. The less wax we add, the lighter the texture of our makeup base. You can buy wax either on the Internet or in specialized stores that sell everything necessary for making home cosmetics.

When the mixture has melted, add 1 teaspoon of peach oil. This ingredient will make the skin soft and tightened, and peach oil is suitable for combination skin, problematic, and also prone to all kinds of inflammation.

Prepare the water component of the cream: mix 2 teaspoons of boiled water, 1 ml of aloe extract (one ampoule) and 10 drops of coltsfoot extract.

Mix the two components of the cream - hot oil and water. This can be done either with a whisk or a regular fork - try to ensure that the composition is homogeneous. Cool the mixture, then add five drops of vitamin E oil solution.

After this, pour the resulting cream into a clean cosmetic jar and store it in the refrigerator.

In the cold, the macchia base will harden a little and become the same consistency as store-bought.

Apply homemade makeup foundation in the morning to clean, dry facial skin with light movements. After this, you need to wait a little, and then feel free to apply your usual makeup, without fear that it will “float” during the day.

Be beautiful!
