Knitting baby booties according to the pattern. Crochet booties - knitting instructions for beginners and a review of the best bootie models (130 photos) Crochet lessons for bootie soles for beginners

Booties are the best, practical and comfortable shoes for babies who are not yet walking. Knitting booties is not difficult. Beginning needlewomen can take advantage of a step-by-step master class with a detailed description, photos and videos of crochet.

The choice of yarn depends on the style and seasonality of the booties.

When creating shoes for a small child, you should pay attention to natural yarn or hypoallergenic synthetics:

  1. If you need warm winter booties, then it is better to choose soft wool. It should not “bite” or fluff too much in order to be comfortable and safe for the baby. It is worth considering that when crocheting the fabric is thicker than when knitting, so the yarn should not be too bulky. The optimal thickness is 200-400 m/100 g.
  2. Has good “winter” properties bulky synthetic yarn(for example, plush or imitation fur). Soft and cozy booties are made from baby acrylic.
  3. Suitable for light summer booties cotton based yarn, not strong torsion, with a thread thickness of 300-500 m/100 g. Manufacturers also offer microfiber made from synthetic fibers with properties identical to cotton (for example, Diva yarn).
  4. For elegant openwork booties, the best option would be yarn with viscose or silk added. This yarn itself looks decorative, and in an openwork pattern it enhances its beauty and elegance.

Bootie sizes by month

The size (foot length) of booties can be found in the table.

Child's age

Foot length

0-3 months 7-9 cm
3-6 months 9-10 cm
6-9 months 11-12 cm
9-12 months 12-13 cm

Booties usually take the place of shoes rather than socks, so they should be bulky enough to fit comfortably over rompers or tights. The length of the sole should be at least 1 cm greater than the length of the child’s foot.

The width of the sole of the bootie is 60% of the length, and the height of the instep is about 30-40% of the length. The cuff should be elastic or have a fastener (often a ribbon is used, threaded along the entire length of the cuff, and brought forward to tie).

Classic baby booties: diagram, step-by-step description

Booties for beginners with a step-by-step description, crocheted with medium thickness in one day. An example of knitting will be considered for size 1-3 months (sole length 10 cm), yarn 250-300 m/100 g. The result is warm, cozy boots with a laconic design. The difficulty level of the work is minimal. These booties are the basis for knitting most other types.

For the sole you need to cast on 10 chain stitches of the base and 3 chain stitches. instead of the first column. Next, knit in a circle (around the base chain), without changing direction, with double crochets.

For the first row, the hook is inserted into the first warp loop (4 from the hook), and double crochets are knitted on all loops. From the last loop (at the turn) you should knit 5 dc. from one loop of the base. Continue knitting on the warp loops, but on the second side (the twist is inserted not under the half loops, but under the bow between the loops of the chain). 5 dc are also knitted from the last loop of the row. turn.

The first and last columns are connected by a connecting column:

  • At the beginning of each row, instead of the first stitch, 3 chain stitches are knitted. Lifting.
  • In the second row, on 5 turning columns, the 1st dc is knitted.
  • In the third row, on each of the 5 turning columns, 2 dc are knitted. from one loop of the base.
  • Next, the sole needs to be knitted to the desired size, evenly making 5 increments on turns in each row.

To lift, you should knit 4-5 rows of treble crochets without increasing in a circle. The result is an oval cup. Its volume should be sufficient for the baby’s legs. For a clearer border of the sole of the bootie (for beginning needlewomen it is better to use a diagram with a step-by-step description), the first row of the rise can be crocheted from embossed posts.

Embossed columns require a certain skill:

  • To form the toe, further knitting continues on loops of one turn, and 1/3 warp loops (straight stitches) on each side of the turn. They need to be counted. There will be as many rows as there are at the sole.
  • At the end of knitting the toe, there should be 5 loops left. To calculate the cuts, the difference between the starting and ending stitches (here 5) is divided by the number of rows. The resulting number of loops must be reduced in each row. To do this, you should knit several dc. into one.
  • The remaining 5 stitches are knitted into one. To do this, a crochet hook is inserted into the first loop of the base. The yarn over is knitted, but the stitch is not knitted (a loop remains on the hook). Another yarn over is made and knitted from the second loop of the base. And so 5 times.
  • The resulting 5 loops are knitted into one. It turns out 5 columns knitted with one vertex. The result should be a semicircular toe.

The next stage: knitting the top of the bootie: the simplest even for a beginner and does not require a detailed description.

All double crochets are crocheted in a circle to the desired height. The beginning of each row is 3 vp. lifting, at the end there is a connecting column. The work is ready.

Openwork booties

Openwork booties are best knitted from thin cotton yarn. The sole is knitted according to the description suggested above. For thin yarn, the number of initial loops and rows for all elements must be increased in proportion to the thickness of the thread. To knit a bootie rise, it is better to choose an openwork pattern of “shells” or “arches”.

You can knit the rise as in the basic description, and use the openwork to knit the toe and top.

A toe knitted as a separate element will also look beautiful: a flower or a geometric pattern. The top of the bootie usually consists of two elements: a stitch for a decorative ribbon and a row of openwork “shells”. To form a convenient stitch for the ribbon, double crochets are knitted on every second loop of the base, and one chain loop is knitted between the stitches.

Openwork booties are less elastic. It is better for beginning craftswomen to use a step-by-step description of how to crochet a specific model of booties. In this case, the ribbon will serve as ties, fitting the shoe along the leg.

Booties-slippers

Booties-slippers differ from basic ones in the absence of a top, so even an inexperienced needlewoman can cope with the task. You can simplify knitting a toe (as in the step-by-step description of the basic model) by replacing it with a decorative crocheted element.

To make the slippers safe, you need to sew a leather insole to the knitted sole with the rough side out or embroider several anti-slip elements on the sole with silicone (rubber) thread. Another option for knitted house slippers is prefabricated models of 6 or 8 square elements, sewn according to a specific pattern. This version of booties is the simplest of all.

Knitted sneakers for boys

Knitted sneakers will definitely attract the attention of others: they are original and at the same time practical. Booties-sneakers look more interesting if knitted from yarn of two colors, for example, a light sole and a denim top.

In order for the sneakers to keep their shape well, it is better to knit them with single crochets or half-crochet stitches:

  • The sole is knitted with a light thread according to the standard pattern, the thread is secured and broken.
  • The rise is knitted with yarn of the main color. The first row of instep is knitted perpendicular to the sole, this creates the effect of real shoes.
  • It is better to knit the toe with the main pattern.
  • Next, for the tongue, only the loops of the front part of the bootie, which is located above the toe, need to be knitted with a separate fabric. And the fabric of the main part of the sneaker should be started and finished overlapping on the side surface of the nose.
  • The sides of the bootie top should almost meet in front to create the clasp effect of a real shoe.
  • Laces (the laces can be thin ribbons, a tight chain of air loops or braid) can be threaded through the holes of a knitted fabric or knitted along a series of arches of air loops on the sides of the sneaker.

Knitted sandals

For light sandals, you should choose thin yarn made from natural fibers (cotton, linen) or microfiber. For such shoes, the sole should be knitted with almost no increase in size, since the light open bootie has an exact fit on the leg. The peculiarity of sandals is that the instep is not knitted with a closed fabric. The sole and heel are knitted separately.

Having finished knitting the backdrop at the desired height, do not break the thread. Starting from the corner of the backdrop, a chain of air loops is assembled for one strap. To knit a strap in the opposite direction, first make a loop at the end for the button, and then use single crochets to go back along this chain.

Without tearing off the thread, knit a row of stitches along the back to the second side and knit the second strap in the same way. The thickness of the strap should be knitted in straight and reverse rows. You can sew a button on it without a loop. The sock is usually knitted in the form of an arc or a figured element of a suitable size.

Summer booties for girls

Mom can knit booties for special occasions for little princesses herself. You will need elegant yarn, for example with silk, viscose or soft lurex and a suitable hook. It is better to knit in single crochet stitches, so the work will look neater. The shoes must fit well on the feet, so the soles are knitted exactly to size.

To make the booties look neater, the transition to the rise does not need to be emphasized in any way: to rise, simply continue to knit single crochets.

From the 2-3rd row of lifting, you need to start reducing the number of columns in the toe area, 2 columns in each row. The rest of the rise (sides and back) is knitted in a straight line, without decreases. Knitting should be completed when the shoe is the desired height.

To knit a strap, the thread is attached to the side of the heel, and a chain of air loops is knitted so long that it clasps the baby’s leg. At the end you need to make a buttonhole. The strap and backdrop are tied with straight and reverse rows of posts. You need to sew a button on the second corner of the backdrop. Shoes can be decorated with bows or beads.

Winter version in the form of a boot

Warm functional booties can be knitted in the form of boots. The yarn should be chosen bulky, from wool or acrylic. The boot is knitted in the same way as classic booties. Only in this case it is necessary to make a higher boot.

Booties for beginners with a step-by-step description of crochet are suitable for both boys and girls.

To keep the child warm, the boot should be close to the leg. And to make it comfortable for mom to put on booties, the top of the boot should be either elastic or have a fastener.

Ballet booties

Ballet booties are knitted in the same way as shoes, only without a back and fastener. You need to knit the sole and instep, reducing the number of loops in the front to form the toe. For a better fit on the leg, you can choose elastic yarn (special elastic torsion or with the addition of elastane).

New Year's booties

Bright booties in a New Year's design will be an excellent accessory for a photo shoot. The booties are knitted according to the classic pattern and then decorated.

There are many options:

  1. Red or green booties with fluffy white trim, decorated with small white pom-poms.
  2. Red or blue booties with snowflake embroidery.
  3. Red booties with an applique on the nose in the shape of Santa Claus's face.
  4. White booties designed in the shape of a snowman. On the upper part you need to embroider a face, and on the lower part (on the nose) sew small dark buttons in a row. Tie the border of the instep and the boot with a mini scarf.

Animal booties

To knit funny booties in the shape of animals or cartoon characters, you need fancy “grass” yarn or other yarn of a suitable texture and appropriate colors. The knitting pattern used is basic. There are no strict rules for implementation; the author's flight of imagination is encouraged.

Hedgehog booties

To knit them you will need medium-stiffness “grass” yarn with a long gray pile. The yarn for the sole and muzzle is acrylic of medium thickness. You will also need eyes and a nose (they can be embroidered with black yarn).
Knit the sole and instep with acrylic yarn according to the pattern for ballet shoes. The boot is “grassed” to the desired height. A nose and eyes are sewn on the muzzle.

Crocodile booties

For crocodiles, smooth yarn of medium thickness is suitable. The sole and instep are knitted as usual. The boot has a “scale” pattern. For the muzzle, you need to sew on the eyes, and embroider 2 nostrils on the nose with black thread.

Teddy bear booties

It is better to knit bear booties in a classic style from plush yarn. 2 small knitted semicircles (ears) should be sewn on the toe closer to the boot. A small circle is knitted from the main yarn or a lighter shade (for the muzzle). It is sewn onto the tip of the toe, adding a little padding polyester for volume. The eyes are sewn on.

You can knit booties from grass yarn with short brown pile. Using smooth yarn of the same color, knit the muzzle and ears and sew on.

Minion Booties

To knit these naughty booties you will need yarn in yellow and blue and leftovers in grey, white and black. You need smooth yarn (cotton or acrylic) with a thickness of 300-450 m/100g. The sole and instep are knitted from yellow yarn. Next, a blue thread is attached and a small cuff is knitted (along the leg).

It is better to make a contrasting blue band around the perimeter of the sole, with several single crochets nearby.

To prevent the binding from tightening the fabric, 1-2 stitches are needed at the corners. Small circles (eyes) are made from white yarn, with glasses next to them in a single crochet in gray or black. You need to sew them to the toes of the booties, and embroider a smile with black thread.

How to safely and beautifully decorate booties?

By decorating even the simplest booties, you can get an elegant, bright and fashionable piece of children's wardrobe. For design you can use ribbons, buttons, appliques, beads. When decorating shoes for a baby, it is important to follow the rule: all elements must be safe (do not have sharp, removable parts). The decor can only be sewn on.

Neither riveted nor glued joints are acceptable for children's clothing.

For boys, you can take figured children's buttons. A sewn-on applique of the appropriate theme will look good. An interesting result can be obtained using the “satin stitch embroidery” technique on a knitted bootie fabric. The technique is simple, even a beginner can do it. You can use any step-by-step embroidery patterns of a suitable size; they look good on crocheted fabric.

Ethnic motifs are at the peak of fashion now. For girls, you can use bows made from grosgrain or satin ribbons as decoration. An ornament made of beads or large beads looks stylish. But embroidery with sequins will not work.

Knitting pattern for booties:

Almost anyone can knit booties for a child. The article provides a detailed description and patterns for knitting and crocheting booties.

Seeing self-knitted booties on little chubby legs is a sight that will lift your spirits even in chilly weather. The realization that the product you knitted warms and protects this little treasure gives birth to peace and satisfaction in the soul. And knitting booties is not the most difficult thing, the main thing is a competent approach.

Types of baby booties

Booties are a very gentle and touching accessory that perform an important function - they warm a child's foot. Booties can be divided into groups:

  • by material: cotton yarn, knitwear, leather or felted
  • by gender: for boys and girls
  • by season: warm and cold
  • by purpose: everyday, formal
  • in shape: in the form of bags, cakes, shoes, sandals, boots, sneakers, shoes, with a sharp nose a la “little muk”

Threads for booties need to be hypoallergenic. These can be cotton threads, acrylic, microfiber, wool. Booties are knitted from cotton for special occasions or for warm weather. You can knit absolutely any booties from microfiber, be it light holiday ones or warm everyday ones. You can knit very warm booties from acrylic bootie threads.

It must be remembered that booties are either a seamless product or have seams on the outside. Otherwise, the booties may rub the baby’s delicate skin.

Now let's determine the size of the insole:

  • 8-9 cm for children from birth to 3 months
  • 9-10 cm - up to 6 months
  • 11 cm - up to 8 months
  • 12 cm - up to 10 months
  • 13 cm - up to 12 months
  • 15 cm - up to 18 months

But this is an approximate ratio; the length of the baby’s foot may vary.

To determine the number of loops required, we knit a small piece of stitching with the main stitch to determine how many loops there are in 1 cm of fabric. On average, this is 2 loops.

In our example, five needles No. 3 are used, acrylic threads 100% 150m/50g. Booties are intended for a child 10-12 months old. If your child is smaller or has plump legs, then the number of loops must be adjusted. The booties were knitted in 2 threads.

Knitting pattern for baby booties:

If you simply don’t have five knitting needles, or if it’s inconvenient to knit with them, then you can knit booties with two knitting needles. They will be just as beautiful, neat and functional.

Baby booties for newborns, description

Booties for newborns should be knitted from very soft yarn, the thread should not prick. Especially if this concerns winter booties made of wool or if you will wear them on a bare leg. To do this, take the yarn you like and knit a small sample from it to determine how pleasant the booties will be to the touch.

You can decorate booties:

  • satin braid
  • lace
  • embroidery
  • appliqués
  • beads

You should not decorate with Lurex, since the metallized thread can irritate the child’s skin.

Threads must be of high quality, hypoallergenic and not contain harmful dyes. You can look for special threads for children, they definitely meet all the requirements.

Booties for newborns should be very soft, elastic, not compress the fingers, without internal seams

Such shoes will not only warm the foot, but also prepare it for wearing shoes with stiffer soles.

Baby booties for girls

  • Little girls are already fashionistas. Therefore, even their booties should be “girly”: bright with bows, ruffles, beads, openwork elements
  • For girls, it is customary to take pink, raspberry, red, and orange yarn. Girls look especially cute in this color scheme. Booties for girls are made in the form of slippers, shoes, sandals, boots with openwork decorations
  • Stylization of booties for girls can be flowers, ladybugs, cakes, cats, foxes

Baby booties for boys

  • Boys, although small, are already men. That’s why the booties for them are knitted less brightly and decorated more subtly. Among the colors they prefer are blue, light blue, lilac, gray, black, purple
  • You can use yellow, green colors, which are considered suitable for all babies
  • Booties for boys are knitted not only in the form of classic slippers and bags, but also in the form of boots, sneakers, sandals, boots
  • Booties for a boy can be stylized as dogs, bears, cars, tanks, with a tie, a la “little mug”, chickens, bunnies

Simple baby booties

Simple baby booties mean that they should be simple in design, without any special decorations, but perform the functions of heating and protection assigned to them. Such booties are usually made in the form of shoes or boots.

Here is one option for simple booties.

We knit with two needles No. 3. Yarn can be taken in any two colors, in our case it is pink and purple.

Cast on 22 loops with pink thread (the width of the knitted product is 9 cm). Knit 62 rows of garter stitch, but if you wish, you can use stocking stitch. The length of this sample was 14 cm.

Now we close the first 8 loops and knit the row with purple thread. We knit this way:

Row 63 - knit stitches
64th - purl
65th - facial
66th - purl

Now we introduce the pink thread again:

Row 67 - knit stitches
68th - knits again
69th - purl
70th - facial

Alternating the threads in this way, knit 8 stripes in purple and 7 stripes in pink. Now sew the first and last rows. You can use knitting needles while simultaneously closing the loops, using a needle or crocheting. It turns out this “ring”: We form the sole. We collect the lower striped part of the bootie with a thread and tighten it. Then, towards the heel, we sew the two parts together. The length of the seam is about 2 cm. We collect the remaining pink part on a thread in the same way as the striped part. Thus we form the heel.

We form the toe (sock). We also collect the striped part on top and tighten it with thread. The booties are ready. You can decorate them with a pompom or any decor. You can crochet it, and also insert braid so that it stays on the leg better.

Children's booties-sneakers. Photo. Description

Booties-sneakers are easy to crochet. The result will be like this:

The sole can be knitted according to the pattern above, or you can use this one:

The booties were crocheted from iris using hook No. 2, although any thread can be used. The foot will be approximately 9.5 cm long for children up to 6 months. If the child is older, you can lengthen the foot by adding air loops at the very beginning. Or knit another row.

The next step is to knit the side. We knit one row with a double crochet, placing the hook behind the back wall of the loops. Like this:

Now we knit 3 rows with regular double crochets, we get a “boat”:

Take a thread of a different color and knit the fourth row of double crochets. We knit the next 2 rows in exactly the same way, only with white thread. Then we cut off the white thread.

Knitting the sides of booties. Fold the product lengthwise to define the middle loop of the toe. From this middle loop, count 8 loops in both directions and mark them. The tongue will be sewn here.

In our case, we attach an orange thread to the 8th loop. We knit in a regular stitch until the 8th loop on the other side.

To get such an oblique edge, each row must be finished and started with a half-column. There are only 5 rows, but you can make them higher.

We knit the tongue. We make 17 air loops (according to the number of loops that we left on the toe). Using a single crochet we knit a rectangle of 10 rows. We add 3 rows of orange thread, where we knit the outer loops with a half-column.

And we sew the “tongue” to the toe.

Having made laces from air loops, we insert them into the sides of the sneakers. The booties are ready!

Baby hedgehog booties, diagram

Hedgehog booties are knitted. To make the “hedgehogs” as similar as possible, you need to knit with grass thread.

Here we use “grass” thread of two colors: gray (100g) and white (50g). Knitting needles No. 3.5. For the muzzle you need to take 10g white yarn and a hook number 2.5.

  1. Cuff. Using white weed thread, cast on 38 stitches and knit 22 rows in garter stitch. Then make holes for the braid using double crochets. Break the thread
  2. Toe. Draw a gray thread. Divide 38 stitches by 13/14/13. Set aside knitting needles with 13 stitches temporarily, and knit 14 stitches in garter stitch for 19 rows
  3. Side. Cast on 8 stitches on both sides of the toe. A total of 56 loops are obtained, which all together knit 12 rows
  4. Foot. We divide the loops on the knitting needles into 22/12/22 loops. 12 loops are a foot. We knit the foot in garter stitch, knitting the last loop of each row together with the loop on the side knitting needles
  5. Heel. When there are 6 loops left on the auxiliary knitting needles, decrease 2 loops on the sole itself 2 times. Fold the remaining 8 loops of the sole and 4 loops on the auxiliary needles together 8x8. Close them with a hook or a needle.
  6. Sew the cuffs
  7. Muzzle. Connect three air loops into a ring. Knit in the round with a stitch. From every 2nd loop, draw two loops, so you get a cone. Knit 7 rows. The muzzle is ready
  8. Sew the muzzle to the booties. To the muzzle - eyes and nose. Thread the tape. Ready

Knitting patterns for booties:

Although for booties you can use any other pattern you like.

Winter baby booties

Very high demands are placed on winter baby booties. Winter booties should be light, soft, not restrict movement, not pinch boys, and be very warm.

To keep your baby's feet warm, ugg boots and fur boots are suitable for walks. At home, you can wear booties knitted from acrylic and wool threads or sewn from fur.

Baby booties made of fur

If the floors at home are cold, these booties are a real lifesaver. They don’t wash out like knitted ones, but they protect better from the cold. In addition, these booties are very light.

The material can be taken from rabbit or lamb fur, or even from your old sheepskin coat. You can sew fur booties using the pattern:

The main thing is to take into account the direction of the fur when cutting. Booties can be made with or without lining.

First, decide on the size and make blanks. Sew the sides. Sew the back to the heel, just try to sew it so that no folds form. Now you need to sew the center of the tongue to the center of the toe of the sole. Sew them from the corner to the point where you will put the ties.

Pierce the leather in several places for the lace. Insert the lace. Now you need to sew to the cape, while gathering the edges. These booties can be worn with the fur facing out or in, as you wish. If you decide to wear it with fur inside, you can also sew on a decorative edge for beauty.

How to sew openwork baby booties, photo

Openwork booties can be knitted from acrylic and cotton threads. These booties are crocheted. We knit the foot according to any of the two previously presented patterns.

Now you need to knit a row with a “relief columns” pattern:

Let's move on to the patterns. We knit patterns according to the pattern

We get this “boat”:

We knit the toe. We find the middle of the side and draw 3 air loops from it:

From the next three loops, make 3 double crochets, which you knit together.

So we knit to the middle of the opposite side. At the end of the row, turn the work over and knit a bootie from the inside. We also start with 3 chain stitches, but now we knit together not three double crochets, but two.

Now knit the row into which the ribbon will be inserted. We knit a double crochet, make an air loop, and skip the loop in the bottom row. Now again knit a double crochet, chain stitch, etc. And a single crochet.

So the whole row.

Tie the lower part in the same way, only instead of an arc, skip two loops.

All that remains is to sew on the beads and insert the ribbon.

Tips and reviews for knitting and crocheting booties

  • If you sew a suede sole to the booties, for example, then you can take your first steps in them even on the street
  • All beads, bows, and buttons must be sewn on very tightly so that the child cannot tear anything off. Be sure to check the strength of the threads on decorative parts after washing
  • Crocheting booties is easier, although not much easier. But there are many more options for crochet decoration
  • It is better to knit the insole with a tighter knit than the rest. After all, the child will learn to walk in booties, and a hard insole in this case is better

Marina:

I knitted booties for the first time for 2(!) months. When the little one was born, it turned out that they were small. They’re so “damn lumpy,” but I keep them as a memory. But now I can even knit a suit with openwork elements.

Pauline:

I knit well, so when I was on maternity leave and had money problems, I knitted booties and sold them. Although not big, there was a profit.

Content

Booties are the cutest item of clothing for a newborn. Crocheting booties will not take you much time, but will bring you a lot of pleasure. Here you will find a description of knitting, as well as patterns and patterns for knitting booties. If you haven’t crocheted booties yet, don’t be afraid, start, a step-by-step description for beginners will help you cope with this work.

Knitting materials

  • 50 grams of turquoise “Iris” cotton threads
  • 15 grams white
  • 40 cm white satin ribbon 0.5 cm wide
  • hook number 3

We always knit the booties in two threads. It is better to knit two booties from two balls at the same time. This allows you to get a more even knitting.

Booties for the smallest babies (0-3 months) have a sole length of 9 cm.

Knitting soles of booties

Let's start knitting the sole.

Experienced needlewomen can use the sole knitting pattern

And for beginner knitters, I describe the knitting process in detail:

We collect a chain of 13 air loops and plus 3 air loops for lifting.

1st row: from the 5th loop from the beginning of the chain we knit 11 double crochets. In the last loop of our chain we knit 5 double crochets, then 11 double crochets, then in one loop we knit 4 double crochets and end the row with a connecting loop, i.e. join the last loop to climb

2nd row: 3 air loops for lifting, 11 double crochets, 5 times 2 double crochets in each loop, 11 double crochets, 4 times 2 double crochets in each loop, 1 double crochet, end the row with a connecting loop

3rd row: 3 air loops for lifting, 12 double crochets, 8 times 2 double crochets in each loop, 13 double crochets, 8 times 2 double crochets in each loop, 1 double crochet, end the row with a connecting loop

The result is a sole like this

From the second ball we knit the second sole in the same way. They should turn out the same. If this is not the case, then you are knitting either tighter or looser, and you will have to re-bandage

Now we need to move on to knitting the sides, that is, move from horizontal knitting to vertical and strengthen the sole. To do this, we knit one row with single crochets and increases, grabbing not by the base loop, but wrapping around the column of the previous row. Let's look at the photos:

We insert the hook from the inside out from right to left,

we twist the column of the previous row,

pick up the thread

and pull it out to the wrong side of the sole,

knit with a single crochet

And so on until the end of the row.

Knitting bootie sides

Now we knit a border - these are two rows of single crochets and without adding. Don’t forget to end each row with a connecting loop, and start the next row with 2 lifting loops. This is how the “bath” turned out

Knitting toe booties

Fold the bootie in half lengthwise and find the center. To the left and right of the center we put 15 loops aside and mark with a paper clip or thread. From this mark we knit the toe.

We knit 1 row: 3 air loops for lifting, 4 double crochets, knit 2 double crochets together 10 times, 5 double crochets. Rotate knitting

We knit row 2: 3 chain stitches for lifting, 4 double crochets, knit 2 double crochets together 5 times, 5 double crochets. Rotate knitting

We knit the 3rd row: 3 chain stitches for lifting, 4 double crochets, 1 chain crochet, 5 double crochets

This is how we got the toe

Knitting a bootie top

Using connecting loops (2 - 3 pieces) we move to a colored thread or paper clip, knit one row of double crochets in a circle

Then we knit the top of the booties according to the pattern.

Yarn: “Olga”, Semenovskaya, 50% wool, 50% acrylic, 392 m / 100 g. Tools: hook No. 2.5. Density of knitting with single crochets horizontally (Pg) 2.1 loops in 1 cm, vertically (Pv) 2.5 rows in 1 cm. Density of knitting with elongated single crochets horizontally (Pg) 1.8 loops in 1 cm, vertically (PV) 1.6 rows in 1 cm. Sole sizes: 10.5 and 11.5.

As a rule, crocheting booties begins with the sole. The sole for booties can be in the form of a simple oval or similar to a pear - with an extension in the area of the toe, which corresponds to the shape of the foot.

The length of the sole for baby booties is equal to the length of the foot plus 0.5 - 1 cm for freedom. Width - approximately half the length of the sole. Let's create a pattern for the soles of the booties.

Draw a horizontal line and mark a segment AB on it, which is equal to the length of the sole.

AB = 10.5 cm.

From points A and B we lay off identical segments that are equal to half the width of the sole. The resulting points are denoted O 1 and O 2.

AO 1 = BO 2 = 5: 2 = 2.5 cm.

Through points O 1 and O 2 we draw perpendiculars to line AB.

From points O 1 and O 2 we construct semicircles.

Crochet oval sole pattern for booties

We build the pattern for the pear sole in the same way. The width of the sole in the wide part is 11.5: 2 ≈ 6 cm. The radius of the circle in the wide part AO 1 = 6: 2 = 3 cm.

We reduce the radius of the smaller, “heel” semicircle by 0.7 - 1 cm, obtaining VO 2 = 2 cm.

We start knitting the sole from the center. We collect a chain of air loops, then knit in a circle. We knit the first row (let's call it the initial row, knitted in the photo with white yarn) using single crochets, picking up the braid loops first on one side, then on the other. At the beginning and end of the row we will knit 2 air loops. We will then knit semicircular elements for the heel and toe parts into the arch of these loops. We knit semicircular elements adhering to, only in half size.

Most often, single crochets are used for knitting soles, since this knitting produces a dense fabric and makes it easy to adjust the size of the booties. But you can use and combine different types of stitches: single crochet stitches, elongated stitches, half stitches, etc. For example, the shape of a pear-shaped bootie is achieved by using different heights of the stitches. A good proportional relationship is given by single crochets and.

So, we start with a chain of air loops. The question arises, how many chain stitches should I cast on for the chain? From the drawing it is clear that the length of the chain must correspond to the segment O 1 O 2. Since the segments AO 1 and BO 1 are in total equal to the width of the sole, then, in order not to build a drawing each time, we can assume that the length of the chain should be equal to the length of the sole minus its width. Taking into account the work involved in knitting the initial row, you need to add another 1 cm to this value. We get: the length of the initial chain of air loops is equal to: L (sole length) - W (sole width) + 1 cm. For a pear-shaped sole, in this case, take the width in the middle.

You can knit a chain of the desired length by applying it to a ruler. The accuracy of the result is not guaranteed. After all, you can knit the chain tighter or looser. When measuring, stretch it more or less.

If the horizontal knitting density (Pg) is known, you can determine how many air loops should be in the chain. To do this, multiply Pg by the desired length of the chain in centimeters. True, there is also a possibility of error here. After all, we need an integer number of loops and rounding may cause inaccuracy.

Therefore, if you do not get the size right away, you will have to bandage the sole, adjusting its length and width. There are two possible ways:

  • change the length of the initial chain by knitting more or less air loops;
  • knit more or fewer rows.

The second method is simpler and more convenient. But it should be used if the error is small, otherwise the proportions may be distorted.

Let's do the calculations and knit an oval and pear-shaped sole. In the diagram, the initial row is indicated in red. Further, alternating rows are indicated in different colors.

Crochet pattern for oval bootie soles

Sole length 10.5 cm, sole width: 10.5: 2 ≈ 5.3 cm.

Let's determine the length of the initial chain: 10.5 - 5.3 +1 = 6.2 cm.

If the knitting density is Pg = 2.1, then the length of the chain is L = 6.2 x 2.1 ≈ 13 loops.

1 (initial) row: 13 chain stitches, 1 chain lifting loop (aka the first stitch of the initial row), 12 single crochets in the half-loops of one side of the braid, 2 chain stitches, 13 single crochets in the half-loops of the second side of the braid, 2 chain stitches, 1 connecting stitch in the loop lifting at the beginning of the row.

2nd row: 1 single crochet stitch, 12 single crochet stitches, 3 single crochet stitches in an arch of 2 chain stitches, 13 single crochet stitches, 3 single crochet stitches in an arch of 2 chain stitches, 1 connecting stitch in a lifting loop at the beginning of the row;

3rd row: 1 chain lifting loop, 12 single crochet stitches, (2 single crochet stitches in one loop) - repeat three times, 13 single crochet stitches, (2 single crochet stitches in one loop) - repeat three times, 1 connecting stitch in the lifting loop in beginning of the row;

4th row: 1 chain lifting loop, 12 single crochets, (2 single crochets in one loop, 1 single crochet) - repeat three times, 13 single crochets, (2 single crochets in one loop, 1 single crochet) - repeat three times, 1 connecting stitch in the lifting loop at the beginning of the row;

5 row : 1 chain lifting loop, 12 single crochets, (2 single crochets in one loop, 2 single crochets) - repeat three times, 13 single crochets, (2 single crochets in one loop, 2 single crochets) - repeat three times, 1 connecting stitch in the lifting loop at the beginning of the row;

6th row: 1 chain lifting loop, 12 single crochets, (2 single crochets in one loop, 3 single crochets) - repeat three times, 13 single crochets, (2 single crochets in one loop, 3 single crochets) - repeat three times, 1 connecting stitch in the lifting loop at the beginning of the row.

Now let’s knit a pear-shaped sole. The length of the sole is 11.5 cm. The width of the sole in the toe tufts is 6 cm, in the heel area - 4 cm. The initial row is knitted in the same way as in the first case. Only the number of air loops in the chain will change. Let's do the calculation.

Midsole width: 11.5: 2 ≈ 5.8 cm.

Let's determine the length of the initial chain: L = 11.5 - 5.8 +1 = 6.7 cm or 6.7 x 2.1 ≈ 14 loops.

1 (initial) row : 14 chain stitches, 1 chain stitch (aka the first stitch of the initial row), 13 single crochets in the half loops of one side of the braid, 2 chain stitches, 14 single crochets in the half loops of the second side of the braid, 2 chain stitches, 1 connecting stitch in lifting loop at the beginning of the row.

2nd row: 1 air lifting loop, 6 single crochets, 7 elongated single crochets, 4 elongated single crochets in an arch of 2 air loops, 7 elongated single crochets, 7 single crochets, 3 single crochets in an arch of 2 air loops, 1 connecting post in the lifting loop at the beginning of the row;

3rd row: 1 chain lifting loop, 6 single crochets, 7 extended single crochets, (2 extended single crochets in one loop) - repeat 4 times, 7 extended single crochets, 7 single crochets, (2 single crochets in one loop ) - repeat 3 times, 1 connecting stitch in the lifting loop at the beginning of the row;

4th row: 1 chain lifting loop, 6 single crochets, 7 extended single crochets, (2 extended single crochets in one loop, 1 extended single crochet) - repeat 4 times, 7 extended single crochets, 7 single crochets, (2 single crochet in one loop, 1 single crochet) - repeat 3 times, 1 connecting stitch in the lifting loop at the beginning of the row;

5 row: 1 chain lifting loop, 8 single crochets, 5 extended single crochets, (2 extended single crochets in one loop, 2 extended single crochets) - repeat 4 times, 5 extended single crochets, 9 single crochets, (2 single crochet in one loop, 2 single crochets) - repeat 3 times, 1 connecting stitch in the lifting loop at the beginning of the row.

You need to knit booties for yourself or as a gift, but you don’t know where to start. Let's look at the question “how to crochet booties” together.

Choosing yarn for knitting booties

To start, we recommend choosing a yarn. To knit booties for the summer or for the home, cotton yarn with acrylic, bamboo or thin acrylic is suitable. Don't be alarmed by the fact that acrylic is not a natural fiber. Booties knitted from one piece of cotton will most likely be rough and hard. Booties with the addition of acrylic hold their shape better, they are soft and tactilely pleasant. For the cold season, it is better to choose wool with acrylic or thicker acrylic.

Suitable yarn for knitting summer booties YarnArt Jeans:

  • composition: 55% cotton, 45% acrylic
  • length: 160 m, skein weight 50 g
  • The yarn is soft, many bright colors.

I myself knitted booties for spring from this yarn. Still a good yarn YarnArt Baby(100% acrylic, 150m/50g).

For knitting winter booties, I chose the yarn Alize Baby wool or Alize Baby Wool Batik:

  • it has a nice composition: 40% wool, 20% bamboo, 40% acrylic
  • thread length: 175 m
  • skein weight 50 g.

I love hook No. 3-3.5, so I chose these particular threads for knitting booties. In addition, Turkish yarn has a good price/quality ratio. She has many beautiful colors. And wool often makes children’s skin itchy; I never buy pure wool yarn for booties.

How to take measurements for knitting booties

We’ve chosen the yarn, now let’s think about how to knit the booties themselves. First you need to take measurements:

  • foot length
  • possible width.

Once I was knitting booties for my friend’s daughter, so as not to make a mistake with the size, I asked her to measure the length of the baby’s foot. The girl's foot is not wide, rather standard. I added 1-2 cm to the length of the foot. Babies do not wear booties on their bare feet, and they grow quickly. You can add 3 cm if you expect to wear booties for six months/year.

If you do not have the opportunity to measure the length of your child’s feet, then we provide an average table of foot size depending on age:

  • from 0 to 3 months foot length - 9-10 cm
  • from 3 - 6 months foot length 10-11 cm
  • from 6 - 12 months foot length 11-12 cm
  • from 12 - 18 months foot length 12-13 cm
  • from 18-24 months foot length 13-14 cm

The length of the foot should be measured from the most protruding point of the heel to the protruding point of the big toe.

How to crochet a sole for booties

Booties consist of a foot, sides, toe and shaft, if you are not knitting summer booties - sandals, but something more or less similar to socks. Knitting starts from the sole. I chose the pattern that, in my opinion, is best suited for a narrow or standard leg. If the baby is chubby, then it is better to choose an oval pattern, without narrowing the heel.

Several knitting patterns:

another version of the bootie sole pattern

It is also worth considering that the higher the columns, the looser the fabric. I like to knit bootie soles using single crochets or half double crochets. The sole needs to be knitted in two copies, 1 for each bootie. Or 2 if you need a thicker, warmer sole.

The length of the sole is equal to the length of the child’s foot plus 1-2 cm. We chose a sole pattern and knitted 2 identical copies. Next we knit the side of the booties - 2-3 rows of double crochets along the edge of the sole, without increases or decreases.

Tip: for the border, knit double crochets behind the back half-loop of the stitches of the last row of the sole. Then you will have a clear outline of the edge of the sole. Along this edge you can beautifully tie the sole.

How to crochet the toe of a bootie

Now we need to choose the method in which we will knit the toe of the bootie. This can be a separate part, which is subsequently crocheted to the side, or knitted in one piece. I love the all-knit toe.

Using these patterns you can knit the toe as a separate element:

In this model, the toe is knitted in the shape of a flower:

This is a diagram of a one-piece knitted toe:

If you knitted the toe using the first method, then you need to attach it to the side using single crochets or connecting stitches. Next we move on to knitting the boot.

How to knit a bootie bootie

When the toe is ready, you need to knit the boot. The opening for the boot is approximately half the length of the foot in width. The boot can be knitted with a double crochet or double crochet:

If you want to make holes in the boot for a ribbon or ties, then do not forget to tie them. When knitting with ticks, there is no need to make holes. But if you chose double crochets, then tie the holes as shown in the diagram:

The booties have been knitted, now they need to be decorated

The easiest way to tie booties is the crayfish step:

But we can offer more interesting schemes. Don't forget that we also wanted to tie the sole around the edge:

You can decorate booties with embroidery, knitted flowers, beads, buttons and various other ways.
