Manicure gel polish velvet sand. Velvet sand design on gel polish: application technology. How to do a velvet sand manicure

When everyone around is striving to surprise and outdo each other in their image, it is no longer enough to just take care of your appearance. It’s the same with manicure: today you can’t just take care of your nails, but you have to constantly catch the old fashionista by the tail.

One of the fashion trends is nail design with velvet sand, photos of which still show how well “velvet” has taken root on women’s nails. And indeed, he gave everything that is required from modern nail art - originality, many variations and... practicality!

And sand and velvet!

Refined and sophisticated variations of manicure, which is called velvet, are not obtained with the help of some wonderful subspecies of velvet. In fact, the velvet sand came from acrylic powder. Simply put, this is colored powder, crushed very, very finely! Sometimes sand contains viscose and gives a shimmering effect. Therefore, if you are asked what the difference is and who acrylic powder and velvet sand are to each other, you can answer that these two components are close relatives of each other!

It is best to apply sand on gel polish, but ordinary varnishes “fly through”. Of course, you can also sprinkle regular varnish, but, firstly, the decor will sadly not last long. Secondly, it will take a very long time to dry, and it is difficult to check whether your creation has dried or not. So for 20 minutes, or even 30, you can fly out of the scope of life.

But the tandem “shellac and velvet sand” gives a number of advantages:

  • Ease of execution. Salon craftswomen promise that the volumetric art will last up to a month!
  • Not afraid of water and intensive wear. If you wet the velvet, it will darken for a while, and when it dries, it will show off on your hands as if nothing had happened!
  • Low material cost. A five-gram jar costs about 50 rubles.
  • Combination with different images.

The only downside worth noting is the sky-high prices in showrooms for this design. But, once you get the hang of it, you can create whatever you want in velvet, velor and suede!

How to bury yourself beautifully in the sand: learning how to do a manicure with velvet sand (photos and videos)

Frankly speaking, there are two ways: cover the nail completely with sand or create a 3D design with it.

Lesson No. 1 “Sandman”

It’s better to start getting acquainted with nano-sand - no extra tools for you. In addition to the base and colored gel polish, also stock up on a jar of colored decor and a pusher or fan brush.

  1. Make sure your nails are uniform in shape and well polished.
  2. Apply base and dry in a lamp.
  3. Next, cover your nails with colored varnish, possibly in several layers. There is no need to dry it. Distribute the varnish evenly over the nail - even minor “hills” and “waves” will show off the sand! It is advisable that the sand be the same shade as your shellac. True, transparent decor suits everyone.
  4. Holding your finger with the wet pigment over a jar of sand, generously scoop it up with a pusher spatula or fan brush and sprinkle generously on the nail several times. Then send it to dry.
  5. Once the design is dry, brush off any residue with a stiff manicure brush.

But, if everything is done correctly, then soft-looking and pleasantly shimmering marigolds will decorate any look! And velvet sand doesn’t have to sit on all the nails; you can select only a couple, as in the photo, or make them multi-colored. In short, there is room for your imagination to run wild.

Lesson #2: Cute Bumps

But here everything is more complicated, because you will have to have some kind of brush painting skills. However, you can definitely handle the simplest pattern for the first time!

Tools:

  1. Pink velvet sand.
  2. White acrylic paint or thick white shellac.
  3. Top, base, pink gel polish.
  4. A thin brush for drawing lines.
  5. Pusher.
  6. UV lamp.
  7. Nail brush.
  8. Liquid for degreasing and removing sticky layers.
  1. Prepare the plates for nail art.
  2. Apply gel polish base and dry in a lamp.
  3. Paint your nails with pink polish and dry. If the consistency is liquid, several layers will be needed.
  4. Apply top coat and dry.
  5. Degrease the plates. This step is mandatory, because if sand gets onto the sticky layer where it is not needed, it will be impossible to get rid of it.
  6. Now use a thin brush to scoop up some acrylic paint and paint on the drawings. If you did not graduate from art school, then let it be simple squiggles or small curls. With decor, your art will still look beautiful!
  7. After completing the last touch, generously sprinkle your creation with velvet sand and send it to the lamp.
  8. Brush off any excess.

This is such a romantic and delicate manicure!

5 soft ideas – nail design with velvet sand and photos

Its versatility lies in the fact that it suits everyone - glamorous ladies, vanilla girls, and even a sexy and mysterious catwoman manicure. The limits of velvet nail art options depend only on your imagination. And a selection of the most interesting manicure ideas with velvet sand will help give it a boost!

In openwork!

Arm yourself with a brush, acrylic paint or thick shellac, use your imagination and paint original and delicate compositions in a variety of colors. Sand grains can be mixed with glitters and you will get a very elegant option.

The nude matte base and black “lace” on it look great; velvet of different shades on one nail is unusual. Brides love French manicure with velvet sand, because it emphasizes their tenderness and purity. They don’t decorate the hole with sand, it doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing, but the ring with a 3-D pattern will fit perfectly on the ring finger!

Mating

For more than one winter season, fashionistas have traditionally dressed their marigolds in “sweaters” for the winter. All you need to do is draw a knitting-like pattern with a thin brush, and then sprinkle it with sand. Exquisite knitting is ideal for the cold season. Comfort and style in one bottle!

Ombre

Not everyone decides to do a gradient transition with varnish or a sponge. What to hide - mixing varnishes is not very easy, and with a sponge you can smear the skin around the nail so much that then you will have to scrub the gray-brown-crimson color from your fingers for a long time. A simpler solution, oddly enough, is velvet sand. The technique is simple: you draw a pattern and sprinkle not just one color on it, but several at once. When you dry it and sweep away the excess, you will see an incredible play of colors and unique nail art!

In order to make manicure fashionable and unusual, many additional materials have been invented, including sand for manicure. Velvet sand is easy to use, affordable, looks beautiful and rich on your nails. How to use sand, what is the technique for applying it and general tips from nail experts can be read in this material.

The history of the creation of sand for nails

An innovator in the field of manicure is our compatriot Ekaterina Miroshnichenko. It was she who came up with the idea that acrylic can be crushed to the size of nanoparticles, which can then be poured onto gel polish.

Now there are several types of velvet sand: very fine (the so-called flock, it is applied with a special device - a flocider, which distributes the sand in an even layer), medium (most often used by manicurists) and coarse in the form of large multi-faceted particles or balls (this type is used in on special occasions to decorate several nails).

Initially, in order to apply sand for nails, it was necessary to use a special gel paint, which has a rather thick texture, but over time, application to regular, undried gel polish became more widespread.

How to make a manicure using nail sand

Sand has gained particular love among lovers of three-dimensional designs, because it is thanks to sand that the necessary shape and layering is created, plus, it can significantly diversify even a classic French jacket.

In order to do such a manicure, you do not need special tools, especially if you are applying the gel coating yourself, but if this is all new to you, then there is a standard set: UV lamp, base varnish and top coat (for the first main adhesion layer and a fixing layer with a matte or glossy sheen), a special file-buff (for preparing the nail), the gel polishes themselves and velvet sand of the desired colors (at first you can take 2-3 colors), it is also better to have dots for applying the pattern or a special brush, since a regular brush will not be able to draw thin curls.

You can see examples of interesting color combinations in various photos and videos on specialized websites for nail care and manicure. But, basically, nail experts recommend using contrasting shades so that the design clearly stands out on the main coating. However, there are patterns that can be made in the same color, and the pattern will highlight texture and volume (the main gel polish should be glossy).

In order to make a manicure with sand for nails, you first need to create the correct shape of the nail, process the cuticle, remove the top lipid layer of the nail plate using a buff, clean and degrease the surface.

Depending on what intensity you want to achieve, apply 1-3 layers of the main color. Each is dried for 3-6 minutes (until complete polymerization). After this, the top layer that forms after drying is removed.

To proceed directly to applying the sand pattern, it is best to take a small piece of paper and pour gel polish onto it, just a little. After this, the required pattern is applied with a brush or dots: geometric patterns, flowers, shapes, animals, stars - in general, everything that your imagination is enough for.

Next, a layer of sand is sprinkled on top of the entire nail, as experts advise; it is better not to waste it, since it is better that there is excess material left, which you can then calmly sweep away, rather than an area appearing unfilled with sand, which will then be extremely difficult to correct.

In order for the sand to adhere well, it is better to wait 1-2 minutes so that it is absorbed into the varnish, after which you can safely place the decorated nails in a UV lamp, you need to dry for 3-4 minutes. The last step can be called removing excess sand using a thick bristled brush.

Sand patterns can also be made on ordinary varnishes, but the durability of such decoration will not be long.

Any housework with sand manicure is best done with gloves.

To secure the design and protect it from dirt, professionals recommend covering the sand with a regular base varnish for simple varnishes. It will penetrate between the grains, further strengthen them, and on top there will be an invisible film that will preserve the structure and at the same time prevent dirt from sticking.

Video on the topic of the article

The technique of creating matte nails with a rough velvet surface became known several years ago, and since then its popularity has only grown stronger. Indeed, velvet nails attract attention, and for good reason. The originality of the coating texture, matte finish and interesting design are the advantages for which they are loved. What else is attractive about this type of nail design, how to apply “sand” spraying on the surface of the nails and which design to choose, we will tell you further.

What is velvet sand for nails?

Velvet manicure has become popular due to its special texture, which is an imitation of velvet fabric. In fact, this effect is created with the help of tiny grains of sand. This manicure is performed on both natural and extended nails. Both regular varnish and shellac can be used as a base varnish. Velvet manicure looks especially good next to the “liquid stones” decor.

The material for creating a sand-coated manicure can be either sand-effect varnish or special sand powder. By the way, the shape of grains of sand does not have standard sizes. Depending on the manufacturer and the quality of his work, velvet sand for nails can have the texture of finely ground powder or the appearance of coarse river sand.

On a note! Without the opportunity to purchase special “sand” materials, you can use what you have - for example, scrapbooking powder.

Types of “sand” nail designs

There are two options for decorating nails using sand powder. In the first case, sand is applied to the entire nail plate, and completely velvet nails are obtained. In the second - only on a pre-drawn pattern. It could be a lunar or French manicure, stars, flowers, ornaments or asymmetrical patterns - you can depict whatever your heart desires.

Instructions for creating a velvet manicure

Due to differences in sand manicure design, the creation technique may also vary. We bring to your attention several options for decorating nails with velvet sand:

Option 1. Plain (multi-colored) “sand” manicure with full coverage of the nail plate.

To create such a manicure, you will need a colorless base varnish (possibly with medicinal properties), a base colored varnish of a suitable color, sand for nails of a similar or contrasting shade, and a brush to remove “sandy” excess. It is possible to use a fixative varnish, but usually craftsmen do not recommend covering the sand coating with anything else, so as not to deprive the coating of its matte “sugar” texture.

Apply base varnish to the prepared nail and let it dry. Apply a base color over it, dry it and cover it with a second layer of the same color. Sprinkle the last layer that has not dried with sand or powder, press the grains of sand a little and dry this layer thoroughly. You can decorate all your nails in this way, choosing a different shade for each, or leave it on only 1-2 nails.

Option 2. Velvet manicure with a pattern.

To create a patterned velvet manicure, you will need the same tools, but you will also need to use a thin brush (needle, toothpick) to draw an ornament. This velvet manicure is created in the same sequence, there is only one difference - the second layer of the base color must be dried and a pattern applied to it. Sand is applied on top of the not dried pattern and kept on it until it dries completely.

Option 3. Applying a velvet manicure using shellac.

Instead of the base shade of regular varnish, shellac is applied, and a velvet pattern is created on it. After the sand coating is formed, the marigolds are exposed to a UV lamp for polymerization. This manicure option is more durable than the previous ones.

Benefits of velvet manicure

  • Easy to perform. Velvet manicure at home is quite easy to do - you don’t need any special equipment or special skills. For those who love original designs and unusual drawings, when creating a sand manicure with your own hands, you can use one of the many video tutorials presented on the Internet, which include demonstration videos and detailed explanations.
  • Ideal for any age. Velvet manicure is perfect for both a young schoolgirl and a respectable lady. Of course, the design options should be different: a teenager can decorate each nail separately with colored sand in bright colors, but an older lady is best to stick to one color scheme or apply velvet sand only to 1-2 nails.
  • Durable. Velvet nail design is not afraid of water or any touch, does not peel off or fall off in a short time.
  • Versatile. A manicure with “sand” coating, depending on the manner of using velvet powder, can be suitable for an official event, for everyday wear, and for a party or going to a club.
  • Available to any girl. Sand powder for nails has a relatively low cost and is sold in any nail art supply store.

Velvet effect with colored acrylics

Creating an unusual, “velvet” manicure in combination with gel polish coating

French and velvet sand

Velvet sand nail design is an innovation in the field of modern nail art. It is easy to perform - both on natural nails and on extended ones, or covered with a layer of gel polish. The variety of techniques varies with original solutions, colors and effects. Often, nails covered with flock or varnish with a sand effect are mistaken for the “velvet sand” design. To avoid confusion, you should understand the procedure itself and the materials for manicure.

Velvet sand technology on different surfaces

Nail art “velvet sand” can be done on natural, extended nails, on gel polish, creating a “sand” effect on the coating. But what is this element? Velvet sand imitates the surface of velor fabric or granulated sugar, forming a unique texture. This cannot be done with regular varnish or shellac. The famous stylist E. Miroshnichenko performed this type of manicure for the first time, decorating the surface of the nail with her own invention called “velvet sand.” Now set by the author E.M.I. can be bought at cosmetic stores. Perhaps not many were able to find this set, so fashionistas tried to find substitute coverings. Also, such a manicure can be achieved using a classic French manicure, or using color variations of nail art.

A jar of velvet sand weighs 7 grams and is inexpensive. The color palette is varied - from neutral to bright shades, which allows you to create a manicure in any style. “Velvet” can have a transparent tone, which helps create a texture on the natural nail that does not affect the color of the nail plate.

The standard coating technology is simply performed on prepared nails: remove the old varnish, degrease the nails, and give them the desired shape. Then everything goes according to plan - using tools, varnish and decoration. The design is created with the following materials:

  • Colored sand (acrylic powder) of a given shade;
  • Gel polish of the same color, you can choose 2 shades that match each other;
  • Base coat, top coat;
  • Ultraviolet or LED lamp. Remember that drying the coating under the LED lamp takes 30 seconds;
  • Gel paint;
  • Brushes for applying gel polish, thin brushes and fan brushes for applying powder.

Step-by-step decoration with gel polish

When all the necessary tools and nail coatings are prepared, you can begin work. Please note that a carefully performed sand manicure requires about an hour of free time; if you are doing it for the first time, it will take more time. The first method is coating stages:

  1. On the prepared nails (brought to the required length and shape), you need to apply a pattern using gel paint with a sticky layer. The gel paint should be the same shade as the sand.
  2. Take the prepared velvet sand and sprinkle it on the nail; this can be done conveniently with a manicure spatula or a special plate, which is included in the E.M.I. set. To avoid wasting velvet powder, shake it out directly over the box.
  3. Dry the nail under a UV lamp for 2 minutes, or under an LED lamp for 15-30 seconds.
  4. Remove the nail from the lamp, brushing off any remaining sand with a stiff brush. If you completed this step correctly, the sand will remain only on the gel paint. You will get an original, relief manicure.
  5. Do not cover the sanded design with top coat for nails, it will last perfectly until the next procedure.

The second method is the stages of coating:

  1. Clean your nails and paint them with base gel polish. Then draw a pattern in the form of a flower or other shape with gel paint.
  2. Sprinkle the design with sand and place the nail under a UV lamp for 2 minutes.
  3. Shake off any remaining decor and apply a little topcoat to your manicure.

Decorating nails with acrylic powder and dust for manicure design

Not all fashionistas can find or order a specialized E.M.I. set. for applying nail designs with velvety sand. But modern technologies do not stop, but progress, so they managed to replace the set with other materials. Nowadays they use acrylic powder, which is used for nail extensions; it is more accessible. To paint it in the desired shade, color pigments are used. Acrylic powder, unlike E.M.I. sand, allows you to sprinkle even the finest details of a decorative pattern. It is smaller and crumbly. This type of design is performed on both natural and extended nails using a similar technology.

In addition to acrylic powder, velvet manicure can easily be done with nail design dust. Dust is small particles of the same tone that can be sprinkled on a moistened surface of ordinary varnish, creating the effect of velor fabric on the nails. You do not need to fix the dust to the surface of the nail plate, in which case the design will turn out to be “smeared”. When the regular varnish is completely dry, the remaining dust is brushed off with a fan brush.

The disadvantage of this method is the inability to draw thin designs by dousing them with powder. Regular varnish dries quickly, and material made from tiny particles will not adhere to it. Design dust can be used to create three-dimensional designs that are drawn with a thick brush. When worn carefully, the “velvety sand” design practically does not wear out, and the manicure lasts well for several weeks.

Luxurious velvet sand on nails - a design for true aristocratic and noble natures. It can rightfully be called a real women's favorite. The unique surface of the nails exudes nobility. A huge number of graceful design options are presented in the photo above.

Velor on nails

Velvet manicure is suitable for a monochrome finish or will add shine to unique patterns or elements of a complex composition. You can achieve the effect in several ways.

Magic sand

The first method is spherical grains of the company, which are called velvet sand. The nail art market offers a wide range of unusual sand colors. In such a coating, the glitter should be large, because small ones are easily embedded in the gel polish.

Coating method:

  • Completely prepare the nail for work.
  • Apply base and 2 color layers.
  • Using a pusher, sprinkle the particles onto the entire surface of the nail.

Velvet design application technique.

star dust

Velvet sand can be created using acrylic powder, which is used for nail extensions. It is slightly finer in structure than sand, and forms a slightly different rough surface on the nails. With it the effect is more velvety. It sticks to even the finest lines and strokes.

To achieve a sparkling effect, it is recommended to mix the powder with any small glitter of different densities. With colored dust the design may get a little dirty, but with transparent dust it won't.

When using translucent gels, it is necessary to apply gel polish as a base to match the glitter or light color. If the design contains dark shades, then the base color can be anything.

The application technique is exactly the same:

  • Apply base and 2 colored layers of gel polish to the nail.
  • Sprinkle acrylic powder generously and evenly onto a wet, undried nail so that it reaches all parts of the nail. It’s better to do this over a jar so that you can immediately pour the excess into it.
  • Before sending your design to the lamp, remove as much excess dust as possible. It is recommended to dry your nails 2 times longer than usual.
  • After polymerization, remove any remaining powder.

painting

When performing a velvet manicure on gel polish, you can decorate it with unique patterns using gel paints. It can be a beautiful design in feminine shades with velvet roses and small rhinestones, as if they were small drops of dew in delicate flower buds. Or create a cozy and warm knitted manicure, repeating the knitting pattern of your favorite sweater.

Velvet sand holds better on a matte surface; in addition, it is easier to paint on it with a brush and paint adheres well to it. Sand sticks to gel paint more securely than to varnish, because it tends to spread.

Velvet sand requires clear and bold lines. Because it is larger, it requires more paint to catch and hold the grains.
