Place parchment paper on an ironing board. Place the damaged item on top, turned inside out.
Using your fingers, squeeze the hole to make it as small as possible.

Place a square of adhesive padding on top of it. On top is a stabilizer.

Now cover the damaged area with a cloth. It will protect the item from an excessively hot iron.

Walk it over the damaged area, then hold for about 10 seconds. Before doing this, make sure that nothing has moved out of place.

Now remove the iron and remove the fabric. Turn the item right side out. Pinch the hole again with your fingers to make it even smaller.

Iron again.

Voila! The hole is almost invisible.

Sometimes one small hole in clothing can ruin the item forever and make it unfit to wear. But sometimes a thread and a needle and other improvised means still save the situation when used skillfully. How to sew up a hole in different clothes - we will talk about this below.

Getting rid of holes in jeans

Without fear of making a mistake, let's say that jeans are in every person's wardrobe. They have become an indispensable element of clothing. Jeans are comfortable and practical, but they can easily be torn by catching on a sharp corner or falling. After all, your favorite jeans just wear out over time.

Now let's look at different options for how to sew up a hole in jeans. If a hole has formed in a visible place, say, on the knee, then you can get rid of it by applying a patch. The main thing is to choose the right fabric color so that it harmonizes with the color of the jeans, then the patch will look stylish and fashionable. Before installing the patch, the hole will need to be given the correct shape. The size of the patch itself should be slightly larger than the resulting hole. Choose threads that look inconspicuous against the color of the jeans. You need to sew the patch in with a line stitch along the edge of the hole. Then the edges of the denim hole can be slightly ruffled.

Holes in the back pockets of jeans can be removed using applique. You can choose it yourself and cut it from any fabric you like, or you can purchase a special stylish thermal applique in the store. A simple applique will need to be secured with small stitches, sewing it to the jeans. With thermal applique, the situation is much simpler: you just need to iron the applique placed on the hole with a hot iron.

The question often arises of how to sew up a hole between the legs. This is easy to do, especially if you or your friends know how to use a sewing machine. Using a zigzag stitch, you can make the hole invisible. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you’ll have to do it yourself. It is necessary to sew from the inside out, capturing only the edges of the hole. The seam must be tight and durable.

Removing a hole on a T-shirt

Holes on T-shirts can be very different. Sometimes a T-shirt looks completely new, but machine washing causes small, barely noticeable, but still unpleasant holes to appear on it. How to sew up a hole in a T-shirt so that it is invisible? First you need to carefully select the thread; it should match the color of the T-shirt tone on tone. Turn the T-shirt inside out and start sewing up the small holes one at a time. At the same time, pull the hole toward the center; from the front side, such a repair will look like a small dot.

If the hole is rather large, it won’t be possible to mend it unnoticed, and the T-shirt will be skewed. There are two options here: you can try to patch it using artistic darning. The purpose of such a patch is not to make the hole invisible, but rather to emphasize and highlight it, to make the patch look like a stylish print. Or you can, as in the case of jeans, use an applique or decorative sticker.

Any type of clothing has its own expiration date. With constant wear, the fabrics gradually wear out, which leads to the formation of holes.

This is very unpleasant, but the problem can be fixed, so you need to know how to sew up a hole.

Repairing holes in denim

Denim clothing is considered the most comfortable and practical clothing. But when worn for a long time, the product begins to wear out quickly.

There are several ways to help get rid of holes in clothes:

  • sewing with a needle and thread;
  • repair with a patch;
  • turning a hole into a fashionable slit.

The main thing is to show your imagination. Then any hole will become a stylish decoration for denim trousers.

How to sew up a hole if it appears in the knee area? In such a situation, a patch will help. Before you start, you should choose a piece of fabric that matches the color of your jeans.

It is also worth paying attention to the shape of the patch. It can be taken from any old jeans, and the patch can be a tone lighter or darker.

In addition to choosing the right patch, you need to think about the choice of thread. The best option is a thread of the same shade as the patch. An additional insert is sewn into the edges of the hole using a topstitch.

It is recommended to hide the hole formed on the back pockets using various applications. The advantage of this method is that the pictures do not need to be sewn in. They need to be placed on the hole area and ironed with a hot iron. You can purchase appliques in sewing departments.

It is much more difficult to hide the hole that has formed between the legs. It can be removed by hand or using a sewing machine. When using the second option, you need to sew a zigzag stitch.

If there is no equipment, then the hole can be carefully sewn up by hand. To do this, turn the product inside out. Seal the edges and mend them with a tight seam.

Sewing holes: instructions

How to sew up a hole that appears on products?

Needlewomen give some important advice:

  1. You need to take a needle and thread. It should go well in color with the torn clothes. If the fabric is dense, then you need to choose a thicker needle.
  2. The thread should be inserted into the needle. To make this process faster, the tip of the thread is slightly wetted with saliva or glue. If the eye of the needle is very narrow, then a needle threader will come to the rescue.
  3. To prevent the thread from coming out of the needle, you need to tie a knot at the end.
  4. Now you can begin the actual stitching. Damaged clothing must be sewn from the wrong side. The edges of the torn seam are grabbed and secured well with thread.

During the entire process, you need to monitor how the seam looks from the front side. It should look smooth and neat. At the end of the procedure, a knot is made and the thread is cut.

Sewing up a hole in socks

How to properly patch a hole in a sock so that it is not noticeable? To mend hosiery, you will need a technique called darning.

To complete the procedure you will need:

  • sewing needle;
  • darning threads. You can also take thin synthetic threads;
  • small scissors;
  • a darning mushroom or a regular light bulb.

Sewing up socks is done manually according to the following rules:

  1. The hosiery is turned inside out. And then it is pulled onto a special mushroom or light bulb. This will help the product not to wrinkle.
  2. All protruding threads are cut off. And along the entire perimeter of the hole you need to go through a seam called “forward with a needle.” The seam is made along the edge of the hole, making small indentations two to three milliliters long.
  3. At the end of this procedure, the thread should be slightly stretched and then secured with small stitches. It is necessary to lay parallel seams along the surface of the hole.
  4. Darning is done using small stitches. They should grab not only the edges of the fabric, but also the holes made. Thus, you need to lay several such rows.
  5. The thickness of the darning should not exceed the density of the product itself. In addition to all this, do not overtighten the stitches. They should fit freely on the edges.

Repairing a hole in pants, trousers or socks is not that difficult. Anyone can learn this business. But not everyone goes through this process smoothly, especially if it is necessary to beautifully restore a jacket.

Therefore, experienced housewives give some useful tips:

  1. Before carrying out the procedure, you need to select the shade of the thread. It should match the color of the product, not differ and be invisible.
  2. If you decide to use a patch or appliqué, it is better to first determine what size you will need. It is worth remembering that the patch or applique should be slightly larger than the hole itself.
  3. The patch can be sewn on both the front and back sides.
  4. When stitching, there is no need to leave gaps between the seams. Such a line will not only not be beautiful, but will also quickly break.

If you don’t have enough sewing knowledge or don’t have the necessary materials at hand, you should visit a workshop. They will restore the item in a short period of time.

A hole in the toe or heel is one of the most common sock “damages”. It happens that you don’t have threads of a suitable color at hand - for example, at the dacha or while traveling. This life hack is about how to sew knitwear with a seam in which the thread on the front side is not visible, so you can use any color. In addition, there is no need for special devices, as with darning. Please note: this method is not suitable for very visible places. It's more of a life hack for quickly fixing a torn one.

You will need:

Hand needle;

Sequence of work:

1. Thread the needle and make a small knot. Do not turn the product inside out. Pass the needle through the hole to the inside of the knitwear and leave the knot there.

2. Start sewing up the hole, grabbing one or the other edge in turn. Proceed as shown in the diagram.

3. When you finish the seam, pull the thread. Pull until the thread goes into the seam, becoming invisible from the front side, but does not pull the seam. You can always pull the seam sideways to straighten the thread a little. Bring the needle inside out and secure the thread.

2. How to sew a broken stitch with a hidden seam: master class

In this case, the hidden seam from the previous life hack is also used. A detailed master class on how to make this seam.

The method is suitable for repairing burst or torn machine stitching where it is not entirely convenient to sew up a hole from the inside out. For example, you can sew up a hole in the lining, on the inside pocket, and so on. By the way, the same seam can be used to repair a torn hem on trousers or a skirt.

You will need:

Hand needle;

Sequence of work:

Carry out the seam as shown in the photo or in the diagram from the life hack above. At the end, carefully secure the thread.

3. How to sew up a small hole on knitted items: master class

We have already written about how to quietly sew up a small hole in thin knitwear (master class with video). The same master class is about how to repair thicker knitwear, for example, a knitted sweater, pullover, jacket. In the same way, you can sew up a thick knitted sock or any knitted item.

You will need:

Thin threads to match the color of the item;

Hand needle.

Sequence of work:

1. Turn the item inside out. Thread the needle. Start casting small stitches across the direction of the threads in the knitwear. Move up and down, threading the thread all the way to the end of the hole.

2. Now use the same stitches perpendicularly, along the direction of the knitwear threads. With each movement of the needle, intertwine it with the laid stitches, and grab a little of the material of the item being repaired.

3. As a result, the work should look from the inside out, as in the photo below. Secure the thread with a few small, neat stitches and cut the thread. Ready.

4. How to lift loops and sew up a hole in knitwear near the seam: master class

A hole like this near the seam is a fairly common occurrence. This tutorial is about how to carefully lift up the stitches and repair a sweater.

You will need:

Suitable size hook;

Threads that are suitable in thickness, color and composition for the knitwear being repaired;

Safety pin.

Sequence of work:

1. Using a crochet hook, pick up the escaped loops one at a time.

2. Raised chains can be secured with a safety pin so that they do not run away again.

3. Having picked up all the escaped chains of loops, close them with a hook, sequentially pulling one loop through the other.

4. Secure the last loop with a thread and a needle.

5. Use the same thread to carefully sew up the hole.

5. How to lift loops and sew up a hole in knitted fabric: master class

To repair knitted items, it is good to use a knitted stitch - the work is especially invisible if you have the threads from which the item is made. A knitted seam is good when the hole is not due to fraying, but, for example, due to a snag when the thread in the knitwear is pulled out and breaks.

You will need:

A hook of a suitable size (if you need to pick up runaway loops);

Well-matched threads;

Sequence of work:

1. Pick up the runaway loops with a crochet hook.

2. Thread the needle and start collecting stitches as shown in the pictures. A contrasting thread was specially taken here so that the principle of operation is clear.

3. Having collected all the loose loops, bring the thread to the wrong side. Secure it by passing it between the loops of the material, as shown in the photo. Also remove the torn thread scraps to the wrong side.

6. How to mend a hole: three ways

Darning is a classic repair method. Helps with holes in knitwear and fabrics. The degree of inconspicuous repair depends on the size of the hole, the material itself (it is very difficult to make an invisible darn on silk or other delicate fabric) and skill. Most often, darning is used to repair things in less visible places. But it performs its main function - getting rid of the hole.

You will need:

Threads in the color of the fabric;

Hand needle;

- “fungus” or other device for darning.

Here is a diagram of a classic darning:

Before starting work, you can walk a thread around the hole so as not to stretch the material with darning. While working, you can leave this thread alone and then pull it out.

Special darning for knitwear:

First, the auxiliary threads are pulled with a thin thread, then a darning is placed along them with a thread suitable for the fabric being repaired.

Another darning option for knitwear:

First, threads are laid along the threads of the fabric, then darning is performed.

Yes, this is a banal situation that everyone has probably found themselves in. Imagine putting on your favorite T-shirt or pulling on some comfortable pants. And suddenly you notice a hole. And she is clearly visible!

Of course, you can sew up the hole, but if it is in the front or back, the result is unlikely to please you. Alas, you will have to throw away your favorite thing... or not?

There is an exit?

Yes, there is a simple but ingenious method, using which you will forget about the annoying incident. Moreover, you don’t need to get threads for it. The process itself is quick, takes about 11 minutes. You can easily find the necessary tools in any hardware store. Go once and shop, after which you will forget about this problem for a long time..

What you will need:

  • damaged item with a hole (not bad if the hole is small, somewhere up to 0.5 mm);
  • iron;
  • ironing board;
  • parchment paper;
  • special spray bottle with water;
  • white fabric;
  • web tape, it is used for gluing fabric;
  • thin interlining (adhesive).

Procedure:

First, carefully lay the parchment on top of the board. He will protect her from the consequences of the “experiment.”

Now carefully turn the affected item inside out and place it on top of the sheet on the board. Bring the edges of the hole closer together so that they touch and the hole disappears.

Cut a piece from the web tape, which is used for gluing pieces of fabric (it can be easily found in specialized fabric stores). Place it more tightly over the hole, and place a piece of adhesive interlining on top (buy it at the same place where you got the web tape).

Set the iron (if available) to the “Wool” setting. Now lay a piece of plain, white fabric on top of the item, being careful not to touch the patches. Spray it with a spray bottle. Remember the place where the patch is located under the fabric and place the already heated iron on it.

Place it down, don't drive it, otherwise the patches may become dislodged. Just hold it for 10-15 seconds. Don’t be afraid, it won’t burn through the fabric, especially if the iron is a modern model.

After removing the iron, carefully remove the white fabric, then turn the affected item inside out. Check how the threads around the hole are stuck together. If unsuccessful, repeat the manipulations.

The method is simple, beginners usually spend about 10 minutes. But when the technology is known, it takes much less time. Moreover, this method is considered more effective than darning. It is faster and most importantly, a sealed hole is difficult to notice, even if the damaged item is light in color. Sometimes it's hard to believe there was a hole at all!
