How to determine whether your feet are narrow or wide. How to choose the right shoes. The fullness of shoes and how to determine it

Fullness is determined by measuring the foot at the most protruding points of the toe using a tape measure, as in the figure below. In this case, the tape should fit tightly around the foot in the indicated place.

Measurements should be taken in the evening - at this time the volume of the foot is greater than in the morning.

Then you need to compare the resulting value with the table. Nowadays the most common English notation system is when completeness is indicated by a Latin letter.

When is it necessary to know the fullness of the foot?

Each person's foot is unique. In order for the shoes to be comfortable and not create discomfort when walking or rub the skin, you need to choose a size that matches the parameters of the foot.

It is known that people with disabilities often find it difficult to buy shoes of the right size. Many companies aimed at the mass consumer produce models only in the most popular sizes.

Often, shoe size refers to only one indicator - foot length. However, it must be taken into account that feet of the same length can have different volumes and shapes. Therefore, when choosing a size, in some cases it is necessary to take into account the volume of the foot - its fullness. Along with length, fullness is the second important indicator that determines the fit of a shoe - that is, how well the shoe fits the foot of its owner.

When choosing shoes, many buyers do not pay attention to the fullness - very often its value corresponds to normal, and in this case, suppliers indicate only the length of the model. If you have peculiarities in the joints of your feet or your feet are too wide, or you notice that your shoes are too tight, be sure to pay attention to the fullness when choosing your size. If the fullness of the foot exceeds the standard, then “regular” shoes will not only cause discomfort, but can also contribute to the appearance of abrasions, swelling, and even worsen blood circulation in the tissues of the foot, and, ultimately, cause harm to health. In addition, the volume of the foot can change throughout life - with swelling of the legs, in older people due to age-related changes. In such cases, shoes with non-standard fullness are needed.

Everyone's feet are very different. Shoe manufacturers have different lasts. If you know the ideal block (manufacturer) for you, that’s good for you. On the other hand, good leather is the material that can adapt to your foot. When buying shoes from catalogs, you can be sure that they comply with all the technologies that are stated there. Genuine leather, special heel systems designed to relieve stress on the spine, breathable membranes and much more.

Advice! The best way to determine your size to order from catalogs is to try on shoes from the manufacturer you want to order in a store. If you can’t find this particular manufacturer, then try on any pair of German shoes.

If you are not sure about your shoe size or think that you have wider feet, then we have tried to find some recommendations for you. The size tables are taken from the gerbruder gots catalogue, the size recommendations table is based on materials on the Internet.

What to look for when buying shoes

When buying shoes from catalogs, you can be absolutely sure of the material from which the shoes are made - fakes are excluded here.

  1. Each manufacturer has its own block. Each foot has its own characteristics, and it is impossible to create the optimal shoe for everyone. It's best when you know which brand's shoes suit you.
  2. Wide and narrow feet, as well as wide and narrow ankles sometimes cause a lot of problems. The best option in this case is shoes with laces, which allow you to vary the boot as you wish. Stocking boots perform the same function. Nowadays, shoe manufacturers use various tricks so that you can choose the width of the shoes and the shaft to suit you.
  3. Buy your shoe size. Shoes must fit. Not cramped, not big.
    • You should not buy shoes for children to grow into. This can lead to flat feet.
    • And vice versa. Avoid tight shoes. Some girls wear shoes one size smaller to visually make their large feet appear smaller. Some people think that this way you can stop the growth of your leg. Our advice is to buy shoes in your size, otherwise you cannot avoid problems that worsen over the years: pain, swelling, salt build-up, deformation.
  4. The best option is leather shoes. Buy shoes made from natural materials. Shoes made of genuine leather are easy to wear and take the shape of the foot.
    • Tough and durable is better for winter cowhide(from cattle hides).
    • Pigskin It is not inferior to it in quality, but it looks worse.
    • The most expensive, practical and beautiful material - kid(goatskin leather). The high price in this case is completely justified.
    • A little cheaper opoek(leather from the skins of dairy calfs). It is ideal for summer shoes: it is thin, breathable, but not the most durable leather.
    • Suede quite expensive, it is made from the highest quality leather. Nubuck much cheaper (leather with raw material defects that will disappear after sanding is also suitable for it), but at the same time it has good hygienic characteristics. Shoes made of suede and nubuck require special care, without which they quickly lose their appearance. In rain and slush, it is better to leave boots or shoes at home; moisture is destructive for suede and nubuck. It is better to wear such shoes in the summer, but in dusty weather you should take a special brush with you, otherwise by the evening you will not recognize your smart shoes.
    • Moisture and salt are perfectly tolerated by natural patent leather shoes, in which it is quite comfortable even at a temperature of 12-15 below zero.
  5. Leatherette shoes it is short-lived, has temperature restrictions and does not allow air to pass through, which can result in an unpleasant odor. True, products made from high-quality leatherette have one advantage: they do not get wet. Therefore, having a pair of faux leather boots for very wet, rainy weather makes perfect sense.
  6. Synthetic shoes are not always cheaper. Especially if they try to pass it off as leather. Today, the choice of shoes is quite large, and it is quite difficult to distinguish genuine leather from fake leather. Modern fake leather has become so good that sometimes only a specialist can distinguish natural material from artificial one. It is useless to drag a lighter over the leather - high-quality leatherette can withstand this test. The characteristic smell is not an indicator either, since counterfeit manufacturers have long learned to scent their products. The easiest way is to look at the skin from the inside out. If the material splits into small hairs when cut, most likely it is genuine leather; if it splits into strings, then it is artificial. True, this method is not a panacea. Often the manufacturer hides all the cuts, or glues the substitute with the wrong side of natural leather. In products made from genuine leather, the seams are rarely hidden inside; more often they are external, so the cut is clearly visible to the buyer.
  7. Avoid closed shoes in summer so that your feet can breathe. This is especially true for men. Wear sandals and sandals. In hot weather, the foot feels great in canvas shoes or leather shoes with fabric inserts. Unfortunately, the fabric is impractical, and such shoes quickly lose their appearance.

Walking in high heels is an art. If you haven’t worn high heels for a long time, for example, in winter, and suddenly decide to show off nine-centimeter stilettos, by the evening you will fall from fatigue. But if you are firmly convinced that beauty requires sacrifice, give your feet a chance to get used to stilettos. First, wear shoes with five-centimeter heels. This particular heel is considered harmless to health. Having mastered this height, try the next pair, with a heel of seven centimeters. As for the nine-centimeter stiletto, this height is almost extreme. Orthopedists do not advise constantly wearing such shoes, especially for young girls with weak ankle joints.

For example, shoes with the ANTISHOKK system in the heel, which reduces stress on the spine and protects the spine, intervertebral cartilage and joints from deformation, eliminates discomfort and creates good health. You can purchase such shoes from manufacturers such as Tamaris, Jenny, Sally O'Hara.

Insoles and soles are made in such a way that they provide a microclimate in the shoes: optimal temperature and humidity, and air circulation are maintained. Various membranes with micropores that are smaller than a drop of water, but larger than a molecule of water vapor, which allows even rubber soles to “breathe”, releasing sweat and preventing moisture from entering the shoes.

  1. How high should the heel be? so that the gait remains correct and beautiful? For women, heels up to five centimeters are considered safe. And for men, the recommended heel height is one and a half centimeters.
  2. Technologies do not stand still. This also applies to shoes. Now manufacturers are offering new developments that make shoes more comfortable.

Fullness is the circumference of the foot at its widest toe (as shown in the figure). Digital numbering is used in Russian, American and European systems.

Many people prefer not to determine their foot fullness, because for most people it falls into a standard size, and they usually adhere to the following standard values (American scale, the same as the English scale):

B- narrow fullness of the foot,
D- average, standard fullness of the foot,
E- slightly fuller than average,
E.E.- wide, full foot.

You can determine your foot fullness using a very simple formula:

W = 0.25 B – 0.15 C – A

W- the required completeness number,
IN- girth in bundles in mm,
WITH- foot length in mm,
A- constant coefficient determined from the table:

Measure the circumference of the foot at the widest point of the toe and the length of the foot using a centimeter. After this, simple calculations are carried out using the formula. For example, you are a man, your foot length is 220 mm, girth 205 mm, we calculate: 205 × 0.25 = 51.25 minus 220 × 0.15 = 33 minus 17. Total 1.25. Therefore, your completeness according to the Russian system is 1.

Then, if you need leg completeness data in another country’s system, you can use the table we posted above. The American system for measuring the fullness of shoes is almost identical to the English system.

Ring size chart

How to determine your ring size:

Never choose your ring size in the morning, because there is still water from last night in your body, so your fingers are slightly swollen, you intend to choose the wrong size - it will be larger than usual. Also, do not measure after sports (swollen fingers), or in too hot or cold weather. In hot weather, you intend to size larger, in cold weather (when your fingers are frozen) - smaller than necessary. Body temperature should be normal and the condition should be calm.

It may turn out that in the summer you wear rings on one finger (ring), in winter the same rings “move” to the other finger - the middle or index, they are usually thicker than the ring.

It happens that the fingers on the left hand are slightly thinner than on the right - the difference is half a size or even a size.

If you want to wear a certain ring only on a certain finger (such as a wedding ring), you need to be very careful when trying it on; if this is not so important and you are just buying a beautiful ring with a gem, then this is not so important - if the size is approximately yours, then it will fit on one or the other finger.

For example, your average size is 16.5 - most likely you can also wear rings of sizes 16 and 17, and maybe 17.5.

Currently, there are many models of shoes for both men and women. There are cases when people, when measuring, cannot accurately decide on the choice, and as a result they choose it not according to the size or shape of their feet. For example, the size is yours, but the fatness is more than necessary, or vice versa.

Often, the wrong shoe size leads to various diseases. To choose the right shoes, follow our recommendations.

How to determine the shoe size for an adult - choose the right size!

Every person's shoe size means foot length, but not everyone realizes that shoe size is its length and width. Shoes must also be selected according to the width of your feet.

For example, if a person who comes to the store has narrow feet, then he needs to choose shoes that are a smaller size, and if they are wide, then vice versa - a larger size.

There are several shoe sizing systems:

To determine your shoe size, do the following:

  • Take a blank sheet of paper and a well-sharpened pencil.
  • Place your foot on the paper and carefully trace it. It is recommended to do this in the evening, since in the evening your legs swell - especially if you have an active lifestyle. If you wear future shoes with a sock, wear a sock.
  • Remove the foot from the paper and use a ruler to draw a long line.
  • Measure both legs and choose the largest number.
  • Finally, you need to round this figure to 5 millimeters and choose a size in table.

Winter and summer shoe sizes- one. But you should remember that when trying on winter shoes, it is better to give preference to a larger size. This is due to the fact that winter shoes may have artificial or natural fur, which will make your feet feel tight. Also, in the cold, your feet swell and your shoes begin to squeeze them. Be sure to wear a thick sock before measuring.

When choosing summer shoes, one of the nuances is selection of sneaker size . They also need to be chosen so that the shoes do not put pressure on the toe and are loose, otherwise you run the risk of injury to the joints.

Foot fullness for all sizes of women's and men's shoes - how is fullness measured, and why is it necessary?

Sometimes a person does not have the opportunity to try on the shoes he plans to buy. To do this, you can measure the fullness of your feet at home in order to correctly determine your shoe size without trying on.

Completeness can be determined using the following formula: W = 0.25V – 0.15C – A , where W is the fullness of the leg, B is the girth of the foot in millimeters, C is the length of the foot in millimeters, A is a constant coefficient (for men – 17, for women – 16)

Here's an example: Let’s say your foot length is 26 mm, your foot circumference (at the widest point) is 24 mm. Therefore, 0.25*240 – 0.15*260 – 16 = 2. We come to the conclusion that according to the Russian system, the fullness of your foot is 2.

You can also find out the fullness of your legs using the table. First, take the leg measurements shown above using paper and pencil.

Then compare the width of the foot and the length.

The fullness of the foot is shown in the top cells of the table:

In most cases, the values given in the table are suitable mainly for classic shoes, since their material is more rigid and does not have the ability to stretch. Shoes made of soft material may lose their shape over time when worn and stretch.

Size chart for women's shoes - table of shoe sizes for women

Before paying attention to shoe sizing charts, you need to measure the length of your foot and compare it with the measurement system you need.

For example, if your leg length is 24 cm, then according to the Russian measurement system the size will be 37.5. If 23.3, then it is better to give preference to shoes with size 36.6.

Determine your size using the table below:

The size of men's shoes can also be determined according to the table:

Attention: According to the Chinese system, there are almost no large shoe sizes for men.

Choosing shoes is an important, responsible and interesting matter. Today, even shoes are sold in online stores, where there is no opportunity to try them on. But I really want to buy a couple of beautiful shoes! In order not to make a mistake when choosing shoes and not to be disappointed when receiving the package, you need to know your foot size. By foot size, we usually mean the length of the foot, but size consists of two values - the length and width of the foot. The fullness (width) of shoes is a value that is not always indicated. The fact is that shoes made of soft materials stretch over time, and determination of leg fullness(feet) matters more when choosing rigid shoes.

The fullness of a shoe is the circumference of the foot at its widest toe. The fullness is sometimes called the "block". Many people prefer not to determine the fullness of their feet, because... For most, it is standard and adheres to standard values. People with wide feet have to buy shoes a size (or two) larger than their own. The result of this selection is, at a minimum, calluses on the feet, and at a maximum, the formation of joint bumps and growths.

According to the English system completeness are designated by letters - A, B, C, D, E and F. Digital numbering completeness used in Russian, French and European systems. In Russia, to indicate the fullness of men's and women's shoes, numbers from 1 to 12 are used with an interval of 4 mm. In Europe, gradations from 1 to 8 are used, every 5 mm.
Before you measure your size, here are some tips to consider:
1. It is advisable to measure your leg in the evening, because... in the evening the foot becomes larger.
2. Measure both legs, and take the larger result as the final value. It often happens that a person's legs are slightly different.
3. If you are going to wear shoes with socks, then you should put them on and measure your foot with them.

But it’s difficult to determine your completeness by eye, so we’ll use the formula:

W = 0.25B – 0.15C – A, where

W– the fullness of your foot,
B– foot circumference (mm),
WITH– foot length (mm),
A– a constant coefficient, which for men is 17, and for women – 16.

Let's say your foot length is (C) 25 cm, foot circumference at its widest point (H) 23 cm. We make the calculation: 230x0.25 – 250x0.15 – 16 = 1.25. Thus, in the Russian measurement system your completeness is 4

As you have seen, converting the calculation is not difficult. These calculations will only take you a few minutes. But knowing your size will help you shop worry-free. Thus, save your time and money, and enjoy quality shoes. Have fun and happy shopping!
